Discounted Weekend Camping Tickets here

Let us just start off by saying despite the name this is not just a steam rally, so don't let that put you off if you're not into it!

At the event will be masses of old steam traction engines and a vintage and classic car display along with motorcycles. In addition there is a model show, a variety of market stalls, entertainment for children, including an amazing fairground. It's a great fun weekend, and a chance for a cheap weekend's camping with masses to do.

Steam Traction Engines, Vintage and Classic Cars & Motorcycles, Vintage Commercials, Tractors, Stationary Barn Engines, Fair Organs, Miniature Steam Engines, Model Show, Vintage Caravans, Craft Displays and Stalls, Market Stalls, Autojumble, Working demonstrations of Log Sawing and Threshing and more.

What's Else is On?

Entertainment including amazing Old-Time Fairground, Bouncy Castles, Falconry Experience, Punch & Judy, Dizzy Wizzard, Heanor Gate Steel Band and we are having ferret racing as our main attraction, this is for both adults and children to race against the ferrets! We are also having a flying demonstration of birds of prey in the main arena and gundogs will be in the main arena. This year, weather permitting, we will be inviting adults into the main arena to have a go at steering a big steam engine as many have expressed an interest in this. All Day & Evening catering facilities.

There is a licensed bar on the rally site (not the camping field). The fairground and some stalls are open Saturday night with full catering and the bar. There is entertainment in the beer tent both Friday and Saturday night. The whole event is designed to be family friendly and they welcome children.

More Information

The show is held in the grounds of Elvaston Castle Country Park, just south-east of Derby, and comprises a castle along with over 200 acres of woodlands, parkland and formal gardens and is worth a visit just for that! As well as visiting the rally, you can enjoy wonderful walks around the grounds.

Generators are permitted but can only be run between 10am and 6pm. You need to tell the stewards you wish to use one when you arrive. You will be pitched in a seperate area if you are using a genny.

Elvaston Castle Steam Rally Limited reserve the right to refuse admission.

For more show information visit their website !

You'll also find the latest updates and further info about this event in our message forums

Sent off your Advanced Booking form already?

Some information about what happens once you arrive at the show:

Please arrive AFTER 1pm. The gates may be locked before that time and there's nowhere to park on the lane. There's a big Asda nearby in Spondon so you could park there or in the Co-op car park in Borrowash at the top of the lane leading to the rally should you have mis-timed your arrival. If you park in the main Castle car park you will be charged. Please don't enter before 1pm even if the gates are open as we have young cadets working in the field before noon. If you do go onto the camping field before noon you will be directed to the pay and display Castle car park opposite.

On arrival you will be given a registration slip to fill in so please bring a pen!

If you have a blue badge PLEASE wave it at the stewards who will give you your registration form otherwise you WILL be in the wrong place.

Again, if you have a genny, please tell the stewards on arrival or you may end up in the wrong place and not be able to use it.

Likewise if you're needing to either reserve a pitch for friends or are joining friends already there tell the gate steward and make arrangements for your friends to meet you.

Once you're clutching your registration form you will be directed to your pitch. You can then get set up, have a cuppa at your leisure then take the completed form back to the stewards who will exchange it for your envelope containing your camping passes and wristbands which you need to wear all weekend to gain entrance to the showground. Each person has one wristband which is for both days and Saturday night's entertainment on the showground. Please don't lose it or take it off during the event as it costs £16 per person to replace it!

Please check all your tickets are as ordered before leaving the booking in area

Please keep to the speed limits shown, there will be kiddies, elderly and disabled people around. Repeat offenders will be removed for the safety of everyone.

Due to the dreaded elfnsafety there are to be no mini-motorbikes, motorised mini kiddie scooters and similar things and no bouncy castles so please leave them at home.

Why has the single camper gone up to £30, its not like space is at a premium.

Hi Barry, I'm afraid all our camping costs have risen, land rental, toilets and showers. The showground and car parking have gone up tremendously as have all the services associated with running the rally before we even put a single attraction on the land.

Prices are out of my control but it's still not a bad deal with 2 days adult admission costing £20 so your 3 nights camping is only a tenner.

We have tried to keep the advanced booking camping cost to UKCS down as much as possible as you will see if you look at comparable camping charges at other local rallies. For example Cromford Rally is £43 for a single camper; 2 adults and 2 children costs £79.

On spec arrivals this year costs £60 so I hope our members will take advantage of our special UKCS advanced booking deals to get the very best price.

Please remember the aim of our event is to raise money for local charities.

Pam

Hi

An eagle-eyed member has noticed we no longer specify an envelope size. This isn't a mistake! People were buying envelopes specially but this is no longer necessary.

As long as we can fit your camping passes and wristbands in then that's fine.

Hi Barry, sorry, am not sending out the acknowledgements this year.

As far as I know the lady who is doing this said she was sending them out as they come in. I am hopefully seeing her on Tuesday evening so will ask. I should also be collecting all the applications ready to envelope them up nearer the time.

Please watch this space!

I'll start off with some good news; the Derbyshire County show is, once again, being held elsewhere and not on our camping fields so they should be in good condition. Our regulars will be pleased to hear we are able to use the usual fields for camping, albeit at a hugely inflated cost to the steam rally.

RANT ALERT

This brings me to more not so good news; in fact I am very annoyed. All our attendees whether campers or day visitors should be aware that our steam rally is run with the aim of raising money for local charities.

I now have some camping application forms in BUT it seems, yet again, people are trying to cheat us, and our charities, out of funds. People are trying to use UKCS forms to attend the rally and save themselves a fiver when they are not members. THIS IS NOT ON, neither is it fair to all the honest people who attend.

Every year we say the special UKCS discount rate is for members only in order to appreciate the excellent pubicity, event support and stewarding of our event. The cheats make more work for your stewards and me so PLEASE don't print out a form for a non-member friend or try to use your UKCS name on more than one application. UKCS is totally free to join so please encourage your friends to sign up and come along.

BIG APOLOGY.....

Some of you will be aware that this year I am not sending out acknowledgements or collecting cheques. This has been taken over by our treasurer. I will still be stuffing envelopes so you can shout at me for the usual errors I manage to make.

I mistakenly understood that cheques would be cashed as they arrived; epic fail on my part! As usual cheques will be cashed the week before the rally despite what it may say on your booking form.

Am so very sorry for causing confusion.

 Reply

Message posted by Barry1984 on 12/06/2018 17:06:20Report Post Report this
Friend my mine has a scooter and uses it in the field but you will need a generator to charge it, from the field to the very end of the rally is a good walk don't think one charge would last 2 days.
 Reply

Message posted by pamcram on 12/06/2018 17:22:50Report Post Report this
You are right, Barry, my mobility scooter barely lasts a day.

IF MrsMinstreljim can manage with a walker that may be an option as a mobility scooter with 4 wheels is better than 3 as camping is in a farmer's field which is rather uneven.

If you'd like to book in advance we have a limited number of pitches available alongside a disabled toilet unit close to your gate which may suit your wife.

Just a little reminder if you've not booked yet and wish to save yourself a few quid; we cannot accept PDF booking files for a couple of reasons.

As stated on your form you must post this off to us with either a cheque, Postal Order or proof of your BACS payment.

We also need an envelope with your name and address so that you can collect your passes for your camping pitch and your steam rally weekend wristbands.

Thanks for reading,

Well, folks, if you're wanting to save yourself £15 on the regular gate price at Elvaston then please make sure your application is with me by this time next week, Saturday 23rd June.

Due to various committments we cannot accept any late applications this year.

Should you miss the cut-off there will be camping available at £60 for a couple and their children. It is £45 for a single on-spec camper.

Hi all, this is my first posting. I am female, solo, travelling in my campervan. I live in Germany, but come from the Portsmouth area originally. I will be in the UK in July and am thinking of going to the Elvaston Steam Rally. (Unfortunately, I have missed the deadline for advance bookings, but hope I'll still get in if I arrive on the Friday.) Although I don't mind travelling alone, it would be good to meet up with others doing the same, so I hope I'll see some of you there.

If you have any non-members who wish to join us at Elvaston then please tell them to sign up to UKCS ASAP!!

The camping application form will be removed from the main Elvaston website on Friday for non-members.

Yes, you're right there. But what I was really thinking about was that the reply to my booking won't reach me before I leave for the UK next week.

Sure things will work out fine.

Can I say a BIG thank you to all the UKCS people who will be joining us for the steam rally who remembered their UKCS username, filled in the form so that I can read it and those who, as requested, sent an envelope which they will collect from the stewards once they are settled in on the field.

I don't want to sound patronising but all the above are a huge help to me in saving lots of precious time!

Thanks

If you've not posted your advanced booking form off yet it will need to go first class tomorrow to save you £20 off the on the day non-booked price. We need your form by Saturday, our cut off date for pre-booking.

If you've not pre-booked there will be space available on the weekend but we don't offer any discounts. The gate price is £60 for a couple or family and £45 for a single camper/caravanner.

Thanks

KNEW there was something else.....

If you have changed your vehicle/caravan/tent after booking then please don't worry.

You will be given a security form on arrival which you will need to fill in and exchange for your passes and wristbands. We don't expect you to rush with this. The siting stewards will give you your security form which you can fill in once you're sited and settled in. Take that to the checking in desk when you're ready.

We do need your security form to be accurate, please, should we need to contact you on site for any reason. This form is only held for the duration of the weekend and then destroyed. Your booking forms are not retained and we do not use/sell your information in any way.

Thanks

Pam

Last posting date looms!! If we don't receive your application by tomorrow morning [23rd June] then I'm afraid you will be too late for pre-booking.

Due to various circumstances in the form handling chain nothing can be collected or processed after tomorrow. We are all volunteers and do our best for our visitors when we can but I think the forms were up in February so everyone has had plenty of time to get their application in.

There will be plenty of space available after 1pm on the Friday afternoon should you wish to make a last minute decision to join us.

Kind Regards

Last one, for now.....

If your car/motorhome reg has changed then no need to contact me now but please ensure all the correct and up to date information is given on the registration form you will be given on arrival. This is so that we can contact you urgently should an emergency occur.

Newbies, the drill is that on arrival you are given your registration form. We ask for names, address, vehicle reg and phone number. You will then be directed to your pitch where you can set up, relax, have a drink of whatever takes your fancy then fill in your form [you WILL remember a pen, won't you!] Please then take the form to the booking in desk where it will be exchanged for your envelope containing field permits and wristbands. We ask you to to check the contents of your envelope VERY carefully before leaving the booking area as I can, and do, make mistakes.

Cheers,

Pam

OK, so I lied! My head is like cotton wool at the mo, I blame all the [prescription] drugs, sorry!!

If you've realised you missed your children off the booking form [yes, someone has!] then please speak to your stewards who can give you their forms free of charge when you check in.

If a friend has decided to join you staying in your unit then, again, on checking in please tell your stewards who will sell you an extra adult wristband. The cost will be £16 per person for anyone over 16.

And one last thing for now [ha ha] please remember NO alcohol may be taken into the showground. We do have random bag searches in operation on the gate so don't get caught out.

This came about several years ago when an under age child was found on the showground extremely ill and needing an ambulance after her FATHER had sent her off with a bottle of vodka and several cans of lager.

We no longer allow public admission on the Saturday night but you, as our guests, are free to enjoy the evening on the showground as your wristbands give you free access to come and go as you please. Wristbands MUST be worn at all times if you are staying with us as the showground security will remove anyone not entitled to be there.

Any questions regarding this then please email me

Sorry, my camping phone isn't working at the mo but should be functional again in a day or so. Will let you know once it springs back to life.

Well with a raging temperature and a wheeze louder than Chichester [our 1936 10 ton steamroller] I have managed to get all the envelopes stuffed ready for you all to collect on Friday up to 8pm and Saturday up to noon.

Sorry but no doubt, as usual, my efforts will not be 100% so please check your envelope before leaving the booking in area.

You will notice each one of you has a flier for the Barton Under Needwood Steam Rally and Family Festival held south down the A38 from Elvaston two weeks after our show. This is a much smaller, and cheaper, rally raising funds for the local air ambulance. Should you have any questions about the event please ask Tracy [Nichs] who will be your camping steward at both events or come to Chichester, our steam roller and ask for James or Dave who will be able to help you.

Thanks

We seem to have attracted far fewer families to camp at Elvaston this year but if you have a little one who might like their photo taken on a steam roller then please ask the crew on Chichester which will be in the steam engine line up not far from the big oak tree.

Please don't just allow your child to climb on; there are lots of hot bits! The crew will assist tthem on board and show the children where to stand and what not to touch. Obviously this invitation is also for adults who may be interested but the same rules apply to them!

Have fun

A couple of things for the newbies...

If you wish to have visitors during your stay then PLEASE ask your stewards for a visitor car permit on arrival. This needs to be filled in and clearly displayed on any visiting vehicles in order for our security staff to know they have the right to be there, otherwise they may be removed from site for the safety of all concerned. Visitors pay the standard entry fee at the main paygate, £10 for an adult, free for children up to 16.

If you have friends/family joining you in a unit to camp and you wish to pitch together then you MUST let the stewards who will be showing you to your pitch aware of this so that spaces can be saved for them. Arrange to meet them at the gate to show them where they need to be as our stewards can't possibly remember where everyone is!

Pam

If you may be needing a little retail therapy or supplies then there is a Co-op at Borrowash straight up the road from the site within walking distance. Your stewards will point you in the right direction. Borrowash also has a chippy/Chinese.

Should you require a bigger shop or fuel then there is a HUGE Asda at Spondon, a short drive away.

Asda Derby Supercentre

Derby Road,

Spondon, DE21 7LW

Hope that helps

Please can everyone be very careful with bbqs , the ground is tinder dry and would hate to have a fire start. The same goes for glass bottles which if left in direct sun could easily start a fire. We want a happy and safe weekend

Thank you for reminding me, Barry!

PLEASE ensure you follow the brown signs for Elvaston Castle. DON'T drive up any farm tracks, private roads or little lanes, you will get horribly stuck!

Your camping field entrance is directly opposite the big, wide main vehicle access to Elvaston Castle Country Park on the B5010 between Elvaston and Borrowash.

Things may change a little regarding some of the campsites in the local area for next year, the Council have announced plans to reopen the old Caravan Club site within the Elvaston Castle gardens. The plans include more pitches and facilities than the original site had and better access into the site, as well as more attractions within the park itself.

Its not yet clear if the council plan to run this new venture themselves, or farm it out to one of the large clubs or Leisure industry groups.

As far as im aware the final plans are yet to be approved, but as well run site in this area would be very popular asset for those wishing to visit the area.

Yes, it was a beautiful site but some of the Caravan Club stewards who variously ran it were, shall we say, not socially gifted!

It was always booked up year to year on the steam rally weekend.
