This site does not have the sea view of several on the Hebrides but is situated right in the middle of the machair for super walking on the RSPB reserve.
New amenity block with clean toilets and showers. £1 for 7. 5 minutes.
No chemical waste so a journey to Lochmaddy. The Cwd is in the carpark next to the ferry terminal which would be a problem if a ferry was due and it has no stand pipe so could not rinse or clean it afterwards.
There are no shops within walking distance of the site but we made good use of the owners sandwich and cake van. Excellent homemade cakes, soup etc.

A real experience! A Site in the middle of an RSPB reserve with new toilet/washing facilities and Wifi ( but with very limited range, you have to sit outside the Office to use it).
Lots of open space and plenty of room to park the van, all the prime 'birder' pitches next to the fences and meadow were taken up by hardcore birdwatchers so if that was you thing you'd need to get in early. Otherwise, no problems getting a place.
Walking round the white beach and machair behind is a real treat. No end of oystercatchers along with the cry of the elusive corncrake. Heard several, still not seen one.
Cost for a pitch was £20 plus £1 for a shower ( 7. 5 minutes, apparently)

When we first arrived arrived at this site we were underwhelmed with it's location-appearing to be a field overlooking another flat field A few minutes walk and 'wow' -a machir surrounded beach with lots of birdlife /wild flowers/views. The trail around the RSPB reserve is very good.
An obviously new reception/shower block/ washing up room were very clean. No chemical disposal -can do at ferry terminal.
A snack van is open in the day presume to attract day visitors/birders -advertised homemade cakes sandwiches etc- did not try so can't comment on quality etc.
The Hebridean Smokehouse shop -good food and gifts is approx 7/8 miles away.

Lovely site in an RSPB reserve. The new facilities block is clean and well equipped. New improvements are being added all the time. The owners are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the bird life. Very close to a good beach and at the start of the marked trail around the reserve. Power and free WiFi were a bonus in such a natural place. Small enough to be quiet but not lacking anything for those who love nature. Would not appeal to most children. Dogs are welcomed but must be on a lead all the time because of the bird life - ours helped us find a corncrake, without her we would have walked right past it. Coin operated showers are the only disappointment but help towards water conservation awareness.

What a wonderful site. The RSPB site is great. A good number of birds to see. Would love to see the Macheir in flower. The welcome was good and the warden arrives on site when she said she would. We had booked but there was no notification of which pitch to use. If a number of arrivals with no bookings had taken place it might have been difficult arriving late in the afternoon. The facilities are great with good dish washing available and lots of hot water. So clean too. A great place to stay

We visited this site whilst cycle touring on the outer Hebrides - we were really grateful for the lovely new toilet and shower facilities!
It is still a very new site, but we were impressed with it and, as we were cycle touring and obviously did not carry seats, thought the picnic tables and benches were a very nice touch.
Some lovely walking from the site, including one of the island's fantastic white beaches within a few minutes walk.
Would definitely visit this site again.
