The site was set in a beautiful nature reserve, the on site facilities were clean but basic and not enough toilets especially for the gents. The £1 charge for a shower was excessive as you are already charged £3 per night for electric, we are a family of 5 and over our two weeks stay this was expensive as we were in excess of £50 for the showers. There was a washing machine at £4 a wash but no tumble dryer which was a pain as the weather is very changable. There are no immediate shops, pubs or eateries in the area so be prepared with bread, milk etc. I would not say this is a family site, there is no provision made for children and if you have a phobia about dogs this is definitely not a site for you. The owner spends very little time on site and instructions are not clear with pitching when the office is closed. On the whole this site is a lot of money for very limited facilities

Excellent site and facilities. Twitchers will love it but those of us who are less professional will also appreciate the area. A few steps and you are on the beach and plenty of walks around the headlands. I was fortunate to see 2 corncrakes at 5am one morning wandering past the van. A small payment is required for shower use but is perfectly satisfactory. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We will be back.

We loved this site. Friendly and helpful owner and an amazing position. The wind does blow a bit, but this is the Hebrides! The facilities are first rate, though I would prefer the cost of the showers included in my fee. It's annoying to get undressed and the have to come out of the shower to put more money in when you are wet. If you are a bird watcher then this is ideal. It is located at the centre of the RSPB reserve. If not there are good walks and cycle rides around the site. I would be back in a flash.

Spent another few nights on this nice little site, it's very well located for a walk on the nearby beach and for a longer walk around the nature reserve, everyone is very friendly and the facilities are immaculate, free wi-Fi very useful. The weather was not bad when we visited and although the washing machine did not have dryer component, the prevailing winds made sure everything dried despite the showers, there are no pubs or places to eat within walking distance, but facilities are a short drive away. Visit the local smokehouse for fantastic salmon and local Hebridean wool. North Uist is very beautiful with many lovely walks and fabulous deserted beaches and you should not miss a trip to Berneray

We loved this site for its location right in the heart of an RSPB reserve and right next to a beautiful beach.
It is exposed with little shelter, but our tent withstood the worst that the Hebrides could throw at it.
The facilities are good, housed in a clean modern building.
We would have rated facilities as a 10 if it had a drier, but to be fair the winds dry everything far more efficiently !
Like others have commented, you do have to pay for the showers, which is a small inconvenience but they are immaculate, hot and spacious.
The staff are friendly and helpful and this site was a real highlight of our Hebridean tour.
If you like your bird life this site is a must, with Golden Eagles and Corncrakes from the comfort of your pitch.

We loved this site and area - maybe because we were fortunate enough to watch 2 corn crakes wander behind the van very early one morning (5am). Lots to do and see if one enjoys sea, sand and RSPB all in one location. Facilities excellent despite the coin operated showers. Staff also excellent. Will visit again and stay longer.

This site is very much one for 'Twitchers' and nature lovers as it is rather out on it's own and a bit exposed in bad weather. The pitches are level with EHU and both hard standing and grass areas. A very short stroll away is a spectacular sandy bay and the site is well placed for coastal walks. There is a small caravan open for snacks during the day. The facilities are modern and very clean but £1 for a few minutes shower?!

After many many years of caravaning this was our first visit to the Hebrides, and this is a site in a million.
So so quiet, great facilities ( heated toilet block! ) wonderful outlook ( we did enjoy watching the calves in the next field) and a wonderful beach just over the brow of the hill.
Some nice touches - like drying lines (complete with pegs!) and the catering ( which was starting as we left) and a warm and friendly welcomed from Anne really added to the whole experience.
The walk round the RSPB reserve is fantastic - only us and the larks and curlews- and there are lots of other great walks on the island.
Everyone we met was very friendly, a great experience. And the lunch at the Lochmaddy museum and arts centre was superb!
Highly recommended!

Superb site on the west coast of North Uist, near the nature reserve. Access to the lovely beach is over a very quiet lane, approx. 30 secs from the site.
Superb facilities with new amenities block including small reception area, immaculate toilets & showers, kitchen area including fridge, washing machine etc and free wifi.
There nearest shop is a co-op not to far up the road. There is also a viewing platform for St Kilda 5 mins (car) away, which we could clearly see as well as Harris, South Uist and Harris via the telescope.
It can be quite open, so ensure tents etc and pegged down, but its a really fantastic site, with that bit of luxury that other sites on the islands don't have. Credit to the owners who are very helpful.

Was my second visit to balranald, i stayed for six nights this time. The welcome was very warm from anne and family. As stated many times the facilities were spotless, if it was my first visit i would have thought they were just built. It was windy and wet but the island is just as nice as in sunshine.
Treated to an amazing sunset, the islanders i met were always polite and welcoming.
The bacon rolls were very good, as was my lobster compliments to the chef. The area is out standing
I will return for definite.
