A fantastic find, off the beaten track and well equipped to cater for the campers in tents, caravans and campervans or motorhomes. It's all been said before in other reviews, but the especially clean, well-kept facilities were impressive.
On arrival (late afternoon) we were directed to a pitch with our name on (notice on office door) and could hook up and settle in. The manager of the site was working in the catering trailer behind the office at the entrance to the campsite and was available later in the evening for us to settle up.
This was the first site in over 2 week's touring and island hopping in the Outer Hebrides where the wi-fi was free and of a reasonable speed - useful if for no other reason than to make contact with family at home.
The RSPB nature reserve was right next to the site and we visited the Visitor Centre, so that we could brush up on our knowledge of the area and the reserve, prior to walking a marked route. Handy leaflets were available to guide you on the walks if you didn't want to take the tour with a guide.
Beautiful sunsets, lots of wildlife, and purpose built new building with very good facilities. The only drawback was the abundance of jellyfish on the nearby beach (which we had to be very vigilant about due to having an inquisitive puppy).
A hidden gem.

This was the second campsite I stayed at and is well placed for exploring both the Uists and Berneray. The facilities are immaculate and well maintained and there are good recycling facilities. Nice walks are available directly from the site and the old graveyard is worth a visit. Lots to see on in easy reach of the campsite. I would not miss Berneray where there are lovely old buildings and lots of seals. Fantastic beaches to walk and cycle on. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and the site itself quite sheltered even though it is near the beach. Very pleasant 2 night stay, thoroughly recommend.

When we arrived the warden was busy serving customers at the Dunes catering trailer-the homebakes looked delicious-she immediately told me where we were to pitch with the helpful addition of our name being on the pitch marker post. An excellent pitch almost level with a lovely view inland towards the old cemetery or across to the dunes depending on your orientation. The facilities were spotlessly clean, my only criticism would be over there only being one toilet cubicle ( plus one urinal) in the gent's but it all seems very new so perhaps the facilities will be expanded given time. The large recycling bin was very useful and there was a large commercial type bin for all other rubbish. The morning after we arrived this was towed away and by mid morning the following day still had not reappeared and people had started to pile up bags of rubbish where it should have been. A dedicated bin for doggie bags would be a welcome addition as most owners were being responsible & picking up after their dogs. This helped keep that marvellous beach clean for all. There is a well stocked shop in the village plus a Co-op less than ten miles away. Lochmaddy has a very nice visitor centre and the hotel there serves real ale. Balranald is a very nice site on a lovely island we shall return to both.

Spent a lovely week at this site. Amazing weather! Only a 2 minute walk to a beautiful beach which was very clean and the water really clear. My husband and I saw otters & seals whilst out in kayak. Great for cycling too as lots of landrover tracks around the campsite. Lovely walk round the RSPB reserve although wish we had gone on the guided tour so we could have found out more about the types of birds we kept seeing! Campsite itself was really well looked after and had good sized pitches. My husband even tried lobster for the 1st time, could order one and Anne would cook it for a small charge. The only down-sides were the flies (only a nuisance for a couple of weeks in summer), the unusually large amount of jellyfish in the bay and the fact that we could only pay by cash or cheque. Will definitely be back!

Stayed here for three nights with two teenage children. Heard the corncrakes straight away from our pitch. Lovely spot and facilities spotless. Beach beautiful, good for watersports, although a lot of jelly fish around when we visited. RSPB told me this was unusual, so might just be a one off. Warden very efficient and friendly. North Uist worth a visit and a stopover if you're touring round the hebrides.

A nice site only a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach, across the dunes. Reserved pitches have your name on the electric hook up pole. All the reserved pitches had been allocated next to each other so it did feel a bit cramped when everyone was there. There is grass next to the hardstandings and the water taps aren’t far from any pitch. There is a large grassy area for tents and non hook up pitches.
The amenity block was clean, the £1 for the shower gives you 7. 5 minutes, plenty of time. The metre is just outside the cubicle door, not too much of a problem as the time allowance is generous.
Anne comes and collects the money in the afternoon/evening after The Hut has closed.
The site doesn’t offer much protection from the elements and unfortunately there aren’t really any views from the site, although the neighbouring beach is nice.

Stayed hire for 4 nights. Very good site with friendly helpful owner. Well organised. Site full when we arrived, but we were allowed on the grass without EHU (no problem for us). Next day there was space with EHU available. Our name was put on the EHU-pole.
Spotless facilities, shower OK but shower starts inmmediately after inserting 1BP. A 15 seconds delay would be handy.
Good tourist info in washing area. Info-centre of the RSPB just outside the campsite. Beach and dunes at 50 mtrs. A really great location for exploring North Uist!

Flat, large pitches in beautiful peaceful location in RSPB bird reserve. Easy to find - well signposted from the main road. Immaculately kept, modern washrooms, though would have been better to put payment meter for shower closer to actual shower.
Lovely homemade soup, sandwiches and cake from mobile van on site from about 11 am to 3 pm.
Wide variety of birds to spot on walks round reserve that take in machair and coast. Will have fond memories of this visit.

This is a flat field with a row of hard standings both sides off a central drive, tents are on grass near the entrance. The owners are extremely friendly and also run 'The Hut' just inside the gates, which sell amazing home made soups, sandwiches and cakes. If there is no one in the office nip to the hut, or your pitch will have an A board at the end with your name on.
The facilities are all new, massive showers, these cost £1, and meter is on the outside of the cubicle, water starts immediately, so be ready, but it is plenty of time to have a good wash including hair.
There is now an Elsan emptying point. The £1 for the shower is more than made up for with free Wifi, which on Skye was costing £5 a day!
I was surprised when I arrived I had no idea where the sea was, but no more than 50 yards from the gates, up a slight hill and there is the most glorious bay of white sand.
There are birds everywhere, the Corncrakes were just getting into their stride, even at midnight!
To sum up a good clean friendly site, near the sea with lots of bird life. Not great on views from the pitch though.

We spent three nights on this fabulous site, the toilet facilities are excellent, and the site owners are very friendly and helpful, you find your own pitch and pay at night. The surrounding area is a walkers and bird watches paradise, and the beaches are fantastic, and if you want peace and quiet this is one place I would highly recommend, and would definitely go back to.
