 Well, torrential rain and camping with children doesn't always mix! However in this case, we had a brilliant time, and a large part of that was down to this fantastic site.
We managed to do all the no-no's. An oversize tent, a short notice booking and we brought the Manchester weather with us! After a quick book in, we were led to our pitch and shown where the shower blocks, play area and fresh water points were located. Although there was standing water on some of the pitches ours was fairly dry, appeared well drained and had recently been reseeded - a slight word of caution though, we needed a few rock pegs in places.
The weather was appalling, and I don't think any site would have coped with the amount of water that fell over the next 72 hours. Most mornings saw the site staff draining standing water from many of the roads and from some of the hard standings.
The showers and toilets were always spotless, push button showers but always warm - never that few seconds of icy water just to wake you up! The shop sold basic provisions, the on site bar and family room was a bonus, although my two boys will never be any good at pool! The washers and dryers came in very useful.
Don't forget the £10 cash deposit for the entry key fob (we did!)
Overall a great site and one we will definitely be coming back to.

Stayed here for 10 Nights. With my wife and Two kids. Lovely campsite, very busy. Staff where quite friendly and polite. Campsite was very well maintained.
Play park is ok could do with a few more things in it.[only an observation not criticisim]
The only negative points that I have is that when it rains you do not wat to camp or pitch a Caravan at the far end of the site beside the statics and Wc block as it goes under at least 8 inches of water or more. Staff worked very hard to clear it away in Torrentle rain. This seems to an on going problem for quite some time.
Also a water supply at every pitch would be Handy as you could have to walk a bit to fill up.
Also not that I have a problem with Tents, as I am a Duke of Ed Leader, But they where pitched on every piece of grass, especially between to very narrrow tracks one for site traffic and the other for a few caravans, not good if you have kids in your Tent. Also Mobile phone signal is very weak, But did not bother me.
Overall a quite enjoyable Stay and we would go back again.
Things to do; Beatrix Potters House was excellent. Fell foot park and sizeurgh castle where very good. Most are National Trust propierties, so membership saves yo a small fortune.

This is a big site but it doesn't necessarily feel like it because of the way it's laid out.
When we arrived we were led to our pitch by a very friendly warden on a bike! She even gave us a hand to manoeuvre our van.
The park is in a nice setting although a little bit removed if you want to walk to other pubs or restaurants. Stavely village is the nearest place for those but maybe just a bit too far for regular visits. To be fair they do have a basic bar on site.
Staff were delightfully cheery (and plentiful). The shop had all the basics you'd need, even metal awning pegs that I needed to buy to get through the hard ground!
Toilet facilities, hook-ups and other essentials were all available and clean.
Windermere village and lake are a relatively short drive away. I would certainly go back.

I visited this site with my wife, 2 year old daughter and six friends for a long weekend in July 2009. I have to say that I am not particularly keen on paying around £30 a night for a tent pitch (my wife booked it) but I was very impressed with the site. On arrival we were shown to our pitch and told where toilets etc were. Although it is a large site it is sectioned off very well making smaller areas, so doesn't feel as big. It was fairly busy but there was always hot water for washing and showers, something we can't say of other sites we have visited.
Had a good meal in the on site pub one evening, also good beer on draught, it is a pub with family/ dining room rather than a site club. The site was very clean and tidy (probably the tidiest I have been to) with the grass all nicely mown everywhere and re-seeded areas of grass where people had had tents/ awnings pitched- proof of attention to detail. All in all a good site that everyone in our group said they would visit again, OK it is a touch on the pricey side but definitely worth a visit.

Spent 3 nights at this site when touring the Lakes. Wardens very helpful and friendly, showed us to our site and pointed out all facilities upon arrival. Lovely, very clean shower and toilet facilities, Large showers, never had to wait. Used the washing machines and driers, very efficient. Very Good dog walk adjoining site. Had a lovely meal in the pub on site. We had lovely weather, but apparently some pitches had been flooded the day before we arrived, when they had heavy downpours. Very close to Bowness and Kendal. Would certainly recommend this site.

We arrived at the Windermere C&CC site on the morning of Thu 16th July. We got lost on our way there despite the satnav. It’s just off the A591 between Kendal and Windermere, although it is actually nearer to Kendal than Windermere. There are signposts on the A591 for where you need to turn left but by the time you see them it is too late and you can easily miss the turning. As you turn off the A591 you go down a country lane (quite wide) and then you have to turn left again onto a narrower lane. We missed this left turn and had to go back onto the A591 and then go past the country lane and do a u-turn to double-back. Beware of the ‘no through road’ and one-way system leading to and from the site!. So my first issue is that the signposting could do with being much clearer!
We had booked in advance so when we pulled into the site, we parked near reception and went to check-in and pay the balance. We were given a barrier key for which we had to leave a £10 deposit which we got back when we handed the key back in. The key is used to raise the barrier onto and out of the site by car – you just wave it in front of a sensor and the barrier will be raised. Vehicles cannot enter or leave the site between 11pm and 7am as the gates are shut and it is prohibited to move any vehicles around the site between those times.
Bob (a lovely friendly Geordie chap) took us to a choice of 2 pitches – he went on his bike and we followed him in our car. Our first choice was towards the back of the site where it is a mixture of caravan and tent pitches. He suggested a small grassy area away from the main area so that we would be a little more isolated. He also offered us a pitch a little further back on a bigger area but he warned that given the weather forecast of torrential rain, it would end up having a puddle in the middle and we wouldn’t be able to park our car on there (as we would not be able to move it due to the rain). So we opted for the first pitch. Had trouble getting our tent pegs in as there was rock a few inches down so I suggest you have a good prod around before committing to a pitch. Even going to the onsite shop and paying £7 for 10 rock pegs didn’t help. We muddled through and just made sure the pegs were secure every so often. The site has plenty of EHU for both caravans and tents and in hindsight, we wish we had gone for EHU.
The toilet and shower facilities were basic but kept very clean. There’s a toilet block near reception and then there are 2 others with showers, one in the middle area and one at the far area of the site. There were 4 shower cubicles in both men and women’s blocks, about 5 or 6 toilets and a couple of cubicles with just sinks and mirrors. A mop and bucket were supplied for you to clean up after you have finished in the shower. The showers are free and have a button that you have to press every minute or so. Water was lovely and hot and quite powerful. Hairdryers cost 20p. They split the time that they close each block for cleaning so if the one nearest to you is closed, you can go to the other one. It was quite busy when we were there but we never had to queue. Plenty of washing up facilities and bins for litter and plentiful drinking water around the site.
Site shop/reception combined – sold basic provisions and prices were a little steep as is usually the case. There are no shops near the campsite unless you venture into Kendal or Windermere – Kendal about 5-10 minute drive and Windermere about 10-15 minutes drive.
The on-site bar/restaurant (the Whistling Pig) is small but does pub-style food. We didn’t eat there but looking at the prices I would say that they were on a level with pub food prices. We had a drink in the pub and it was £3.95 for a pint and half of John Smith’s.
The site itself is well-laid out and operates a 5mph max speed at all times. Some parts of the site are one-way so take note of the signs. There is a ‘strict’ no noise policy between 11pm and 7am but this didn’t stop the inconsiderate group opposite us who were sat outside until past midnight talking and laughing very loudly. My husband went to the toilet and on the way back asked them politely if they could keep the noise down. Despite an apology from them the noise continued and we endured the commentary of their journey up the M1 and Scotch Corner until the small hours! During the 2 nights we were there we didn’t get any quality sleep at all and this is one of the reasons why we cut short our planned 4 night stay to just 2.
The other reason we cut our stay short was the terrible weather – not a fault of the site itself of course – but this combined with the remote location of the site meant that we got terribly bored and decided enough was enough. If you wanted to go anywhere it had to be by car because we also couldn’t find any nice walks in the area either - kind of defeats the object of camping.
Although the site itself was nice, staff great, the location was awful and too remote, they need to be much stricter on the no noise after 11pm policy and the place needs to be signposted much better.
Only our second ever camping trip but I doubt we will return to this site again

Booked at the last minute for the weekend & stayed an extra night. It was the 1st time we had stayed on a C&CC site.
Absolutely excellent site. Wardens were pleasant & very helpful. We couldn't fault them at all. Close to Windermere & Bowness. Very clean & well kept site. Toilets were heated & we always found them immaculate. There is a small bar on site which is a bonus. Although we didn't use it we noticed they also sell bar food. Dog friendly site as long as they are always on a lead. I suppose the only slight criticism is that the dog walking fields along side the campsite are full of sheep so dogs cant have a good run off the lead.
Well thought out large site broken up into smaller areas with trees. All units except backpackers were all intermingled which was nice. Hard standings well maintained & flat.
We will definitely recommend this site & we will be going again.

I visited this site over May bank holiday with friends and booked on the basis of the reviews on this site.
I admit to having high standards and I can say that I wasn't disappointed with this site; it is without doubt one of the best I have ever visited!
Our friends went camping for the 1st time & were so impressed with the site they are now hooked! I have already booked this site again for a long weekend in July as it is only 45 mins from home and yet feels like a million miles away due to the peace & tranquillity!
In every aspect the site was 5*; staff really friendly & helpful, site is well drained, beautifully landscaped and wildlife was in abundance everywhere.
The toilets & showers were modern and kept immaculately clean. (lovely hot showers using push button)
The pitches were well tended and spacious. Although the site was full it was really peaceful and the 'no late noise' rule was completely adhered to, which helped ensure a goods night sleep!
I would really recommending getting the right size pitch for your needs though, as our van is 26ft long, unfortunately we forgot to mention this when we booked and the standard pitch was tight in length and the van ended up sticking out onto the road which wasn't ideal. The larger pitches would have been better as we were worried about someone hitting the van hitch as they drove past in the dark. As the site was full we couldn't move, but it was our fault not the sites and it was a lesson learnt!
There is a lovely little bar on site, but it really is very small (observation not a complaint), so if you want a chair or table get there early!
The site is quite isolated and access is via a narrow track approx 2 miles off the main road & through beautiful bluebell woods. Again not a criticism, but be prepared to drive to get to shops & pubs.
The site is only 5-10 minutes drive into Windermere; if you wanted to walk it would take about 30 minutes (as the site is in Stavely not Windermere)There is a small supermarket, loads of lovely local shops and there is so much to do in the local area. I would really recommend Muncaster Castle for a full day out. Also Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway is wonderful; get off at the end & do the walk up to the waterfalls - there is plenty of places for a picnic & the waterfalls are stunning!
I didn't notice if there was much for the kids to do as mine are all grown up: but the kids we saw seemed happy riding thier bikes around and exploring the trees, hedges & countryside.
I would highly recommend this site & feel sure you wouldn't be disappointed. This site is a real credit to the C&C Club!

Stayed here for 1st ever camping trip. Arrived 6.15pm Friday and after a friendly greeting and some basic instructions we were given a couple of options of where to pitch by helpful camp staff. We pitched in a fairly level area near the reception and on-site pub. There was a backpackers hut right there for washing up and people seemed to gather there at night to drink and be merry.
Can't fault anything really except maybe they could add another half hour to the pub opening hrs;-)
A great place for us to start our camping careers!

A really nice family site.
We spent a lovely weekend here, despite the horrific weather.
We were met on arrival by Bob who escorted us on his cycle to our spot. He helped us push the trailer into position and told us where everything was. This is a huge site but due to the layout it doesn't feel it. It is completely surrounded by lovely countryside, loads of wildlife around, the kids sat inches away from rabbits and pheasants and the birds squalk a lovely tune as it breaks daylight!
The play area suits older children well although it's out of the way and they have to be supervised, the shop stocks everything you could ever need, they were even selling a TV for £20!
The small pub looks good and the family room is great, we went in one lunchtime and although it wasn't open they let us in and even put on the TV for us.
We didn't get to enjoy any of the walks but the scenery is great.
The showers were lovely, spotless, hot and heated. Small cubicles with sinks in were great for getting the family ready.
The only complaint I have is I paid £7 for 24 hours internet and was unable to connect! The wireless connection can only be picked up if you're close to reception. Other than that I would not hesitate to return, hopefully with better weather this time.
