June 2005 I am just back from spending a week at this wonderful site on a second visit and am in total agreement with all of the reviews posted here however I think it would also be fair to add the point that at this site rock pins are a necessity. There is about 2 inches of soil on top of rock. Saying that, the shop does have a really good stock of them!!!

May 2005 This is a lovely site, set well off the main road and approached down a pretty lane. The site was full but didn't feel crowded. The area we were pitched in was a mixture of tents and caravans well placed so as not to overlook each other. Booking in and out is well managed by friendly staff. There appeared to be enough showers, toilets, washing up facilties, etc as I never once had to queue. There are great walks from the site and its conveniently placed for touring the lakes.
Despite being school holidays noise was never a problem but parents please warn your children of the dangers of cycling too fast down the hill! In the 3 days we camped there three children came off their bikes suffering some nasty cuts and grazes.

28th July 2004 Brilliant site, lovely staff and the toilets, showers are very clean and the site is well maintained. The only down side for us that we picked the height of the season and it was very noisy sometimes well into the early hours, but of course the children are on holiday too. We will definately go back but we will go when the children are back in school.

July 2004 The layout of this site is excellent, so many different nooks and crannies dividing the site into smaller more secluded areas makes it such a nice place to spend time. Very good sanitary facilities – they even have music playing in one of the toilet blocks. The kids like it because of the play area with swings and a climbing frame it keeps them amused. The site staff are very friendly and helpful and keep the site well maintained, clean and tidy.
It’s a good base to explore the lakes and well worth a visit – you will not be disappointed.

June 2004 This is a fabulous site with a good tent area, friendly staff, pub (which serves good food) & small shop on site. Best of all is a backpackers hut which allows those of us in tents somewhere safe & dry to cook, it also has drying cupboards for £1 a day. This is a very large site but the way it is arranged into small areas it doesn't feel like a large site. Well worth a visit. I certainly intend to go back.

April 2003 This site is child frendly. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. They will go out of their way for you. On the site there is a child's play area, shop and bar. We have been a few times to Ashes lane and we are going again next week (march 04). Ashes lane is well worth a visit!

June 2002 Just called on for a look but will be booking on it looked lovely as it is, there is room for a face lift (see below).
Note: The site has been taken over by the Caravan and Camping Club, who are running it as normal for 2002, but are to take over fully for the 2003 season with many changes for the better, i.e. bigger pitches and a general upgrade.

A very pleasant compact site, plenty of grass for tent campers, hard standings for motorhomes and space for caravans with awnings. There is a licenced clubhouse and a small snackbar. Staveley is about a 30 minutes walk along a green lane, no traffic until you cross the A592. Two or three reasonable pubs and a fish and chip shop.
The sites facilities are adequate and it is a reasonable centre for exploring the SE Lakes.
Directions: Off the A591 halfway between Kendal and Windwermere, access is easier if coming from Kendal.
UPDATE: 27 Mar 2000
We have just revisisted this site after a gap of 8 years. Many changes and improvements have been made since then. There are many more pitches with hard standings large enough for caravan and awning. All the pitches are flat but the site is not, pitches are very well laid out and the area beautifully landscaped. Because of the large number of seasonal pitches booking would definately be advisable at busy times. The toilet facilities are good and centrally heated. The bar and snack bar are not open until Easter.
