A well set out site in a lovely setting miles from anywhere. Staveley is a couple of miles down the busy dual carriageway which is ok but if you like a night out drinking like we do then it is probably too dangerous to attempt the wobble back. However there is a pub on site, the whistling pig, which does the job. Good situation for visiting Bowness, Ambleside, Hawkshead and of course Windermere.Toilet blocks were expectantly clean but there was an awful drain smell as you approached them when we were there. We went to Bowness for a meal one night and returned after 11pm to find the barriers down and had to settle down for the night outside the gates, which was different I suppose but rules are rules.

Just spent a weekend at this site and it was lovely - only sorry we couldn't stay longer! Good mix of all types of units and lots of friendly campers. It's quite a large site but very well spaced out and plenty of toilets, showers, etc to cope. Toilet and shower blocks spotlessly clean. Wardens were very pleasant and really helpful. Small bar that does food and takeaway on site - but all still lovely and quiet come 11pm. Took 11 year old daughter who said the play area was a bit young, but then hardly saw her and is now asking when we can go back! We will certainly be visiting this site again.

I agree with previous reviews regarding excellent quality of facilities, however no one has mentioned space. We were crammed in like sardines, so much so that the warden paced out 6ft from the adjacent units to fit us in and left no room for our car. A family from Ireland were placed 3ft from the bins! For this reason we will not be returning.

We spent a week here and it is a fabulous site. The facilities are spotless, plentiful and warm. Perfect! The bar on site is nice, the food is very good and they do take aways too if you are that way inclined. No smoking policy throughout the bar & family room. The pitches are nicely sized, and the site location itself is very good for the Western Lakes. We will definitely go back again!

Clean site with spotless toilets. Would go again, Signposts around the site would have been good as we lost our tent a few times! Wardens really helpful and happy to assist anytime. Playground for young and older kids, much liked.Shop on site as limited but supermarkets are close by. Very central to a lot of attractions being Kendal or Windermere.

It was the first time for me -camping - and was very grateful that we had such a lovely time! This is a beautiful site and all the wardens are helpful and the atmosphere was great! The facilities are excellent -clean toilets / showers, wonderful playground, great views, etc. I love the fact that by 11pm there must be no noise ( recently went to a site where a group next top us were partying till 3am!) and tents are 6m apart -not a case of ramming them in! Lots of things to do close by - it is the lakes! Does have electric hook-up. I will go back again -I can't fault the site -excellent!

Just returned from this fantastic site. We went as a party of one caravan and five tents and there were 24 of us. (12 adults and 12 children aged from 2 to 15).This is by far the best site we have stayed at. The wardens and staff were so friendly and so helpful. The facilities were top class and very clean. The toilet blocks and shower blocks were immaculate with free hot water. The washing up facilities were also top class. Haven't got a bad word at all to say about the site. The adults and children all loved the site. There was ample for the children to do. Well done to this top rate site and we will definitely be returning again and again.

Just returned from a three night stay, we are now so depressed about what we left behind! A brilliant secluded site, well off the main road with well spaced pitches and excellent facilities as you would expect from CCC. Walking from the site is very good especially if you have dogs who need to run. We left the site for nearby Stavely and the Eagle and Child pub, good food, open fire, or beer garden, pleasant walk back by the river to Burneside and the site. many walks nearby, we did one of the lakelands classics, Fairfields Horseshoe, parking on street in Ambleside. The walk took 7 hours, but returned to site for a fantastic hot shower and a meal in the awning as the sun went down. As we left at midday friday, others were pouring in! A good time to be leaving! We'll be back.

Just spent an enjoyable 4 days over Easter at this site. Its in a great location for visiting the sights of the south lakes and Windermere. Very large sight with security barrier, very clean toilets and excellent dish washing facilities, lovely well kept and clean site, with plenty to do to keep the kids occupied, will be back again next bank holiday

July 2005 Great site with loads of very friendly staff. The site is huge by C&CC standards, but does have a bar serving food which is also unusual. The bar stops serving around 10.45pm to allow the 11pm curfew to be observed. We didn't eat there, but food looked good. The camping area is very close to the reception / bar / shop etc and is handy for toilets, but a bit further from showers. The play area is fantastic, but not next to any tents or caravans and so if you have younger children you would need to stay with them.
Loads of paths etc for bikes, and all the children seemed to play well together though this probably depends on the mix! Showers/toilets seems very new and were very clean. Laundry can get very busy.
There is a backpackers wooden chalet which has dishwashing facilities, and a place to prepare food and cook with a primas stove if the weather is poor. It also has a couple of picnic benches which were useful in the rain. For £1/day you can also hire drying lockers.
Very good site with great facilities in a great location.
