We were very suited with this site. Warm welcome at reception and showed to our pitch which was in a nice location. We needed rock pegs so go prepared.
Found the warden to be very precise over the spacing and how much room you were allowed to consume so he came back to check on our canopy and windbreak location and let it be as the site was pretty quiet. He explained his reasons which were fair so can’t complain but would bear it in mind if booking again in peak season.
We had a wander round the site and it was very clean and tidy, nice children's play area and all very scenic. Shop sells essentials but that’s about it. They say there’s a pub on site but it’s really more of a room with pub style furniture. Don’t get me wrong, we were happy with it but it’s just not very big and we sometimes struggled to get a seat.
There’s a more family friendly room attached to it with pool table etc. Children weren’t allowed in the actual bar area. The toilet/ shower blocks and wash up facilities were always clean and there’s plenty to go round so can’t find any complaints. We had to pay a refundable deposit (£10) for a key fob which operates the barrier system at the entrance. It locks down at 11pm at which time you have to leave your vehicle in the overnight parking area. A nice safety touch.
The site was further from Windermere itself than we expected (about 5 miles) but only a short drive away and we were happy with that. We love Ambleside and spent a day there and we also had a day walking round Bowness, all within short distance.
The site itself is by a busy A Road so no real walks from the site or anything in walking distance so be prepared for a drive out. There’s a nice discount warehouse down the road selling outdoor gear although they didn’t seem to be discount prices but very nice store. There’s also a garage just down the road which is convenient. There’s a Spar shop in nearby Staveley, that’s probably the closest supermarket.
We very much enjoyed our stay and can recommend to others. We will definitely be returning.

Just spent two nights here.
It's a big site but is broken up into smaller smaller areas, so doesn't feel too big. Pitches are spacious and well kept. Electric hookups and water, waste water, bins close by.
Excellent toilets, showers, never had to queue. Onsite pub is ok apart from uncomfortable seats. No other pubs within walking distance.
Quiet lane next to site leading to open fields with good views. Short drive to Kendal or Windermere. Lots to do in the surrounding area.
Friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights in our motorhome with our 2 dogs. The walks were great the weather was ok but very cold (however what do you expect in January), but what I would most like to comment on is the owners/employees. As this was only the 2nd time we had used our new motorhome, we were still very new to it. What started out as a nightmare weekend with everything possible going wrong for us, was soon sorted by 'Bob'. When we went to go out on our first morning after we arrived out motorhome battery was a flat as a doh doh. Bob brought his tractor over to our van and jump started us. Also on arrival we could not get any water to come out of our taps so resided ourselves to filling up bottles from the outside tap as we thought our tank was frozen it wasn't. Whatever it was that was wrong, 'Bob fixed it' for us. Great site. We would definitely stop there again. Very friendly

Just had a weekend and a then a week at the site after having placed our Tourer on site until January.
Very well recommended.
The toilet blocks are spotless and the showers are lovely and warm.
Never too far from running water and the bins to dispose of rubbish. Mostly electric hook ups apart from the main camping area at the front of the site.
The children's playground isn't the best as it is a mix of two kiddy swings, two older swings and a small slide plus a curious wooden boat along with a small castle construction.
Very handy site as it is close to the A591 and its around a 35 minute walk into Staveley along a green lane and then a road where you can catch a train or a bus to other Lake District locations.
We also during our week stay took a pram along the green lane and part of the Dales Way into Windermere a lovely 6 mile walk if your that way inclined.
Can get a little busy at Weekends but a bit quieter during the week. Small reception/shop is handy for all the little essentials and the Whistling Pig also has a family room which serves some nice bar food.
If you get the chance to go you wont be disappointed.

Second visit to this site and the kid's favourite. This is a large site, but broken up into smaller fields making it seem smaller. Great Facilities with two well maintained shower blocks, a Pub and beer garden and a small shop with the essentials. Helpful and friendly staff. We were pitched on a small row of around five tents, with the rest of the pitches being caravan hard standings. There is a separate field for tents without electric near the entrance and grass pitches in other fields, so plenty of space for tents. The site is quite isolated with Windermere a 15min car drive away, but a great spot to explore the Southern Lakes from. Would recommend and we will (hopefully) be back next year.

Not the best weekend for camping - constant heavy rain for almost the whole time, but nonetheless I enjoyed a pleasant stay at this campsite.
Received a very warm welcome from the wardens, one of whom directed me to the main non-ehu camping area close to the main entrance of the site. She helpfully measured out the minimum distance from the tent-next-door and then explained where all the main facilities were. She even offered to go back to the office and find out where my parents (who arrived earlier in the week) were pitched in their folding camper.
In my opinion, if you are camping without EHU you definitely get the best this site has to offer. Its a small, but level grassy area with a gravel area for car-parking in the middle - you don't park next to your tent, which is worth knowing if you depend upon your car battery for lighting. There is a Backpackers Retreat - with a drying room, washing up facilities, an area for cooking/food prep and some picnic benches - very useful in the bad weather!
The rest of the site is split into small areas with hardstanding pitches for caravans / campers with EHU. Some pitches are set away on their own, which must be nice for privacy, but they tend to be shady. There is also another grassy area with EHU for tents.
All of the site is well-maintained and my only gripe would be that the roads / paths did become very waterlogged in the heavy rain - but the weather was quite extreme so perhaps this isn't usually a problem.
There are two sets of toilet / shower blocks - which are closed at different times of the day for cleaning. They are well-kept and even in the worst of the weather they didn't get too dirty at all. The showers are hot and free - what more can you ask for!
I didn't use 'The Whistling Pig', the onsite pub / restaurant / takeaway so can't comment on it - but it was nice to know it was there if I didn't fancy cooking. It certainly never added to the noise levels, I found the site very quiet indeed despite it being very busy.
Very pleasant - I'll definitely be back there, hopefully with a little sunshine next time!

I've just come back from this site and I really didn't want to come home. The site is beautifully kept and the landscaping and plenty of trees break it up into several smaller areas so you don't really get a feel of quite how big the site is.
I was lucky to be fairly close to the dog walk, which is one of the best I've seen. It's actually a lane which leads to the entrance in one direction and over the fields in the other so you can walk quite a long way and it's safe to let the dog off the lead until you get to the fields. There are also plenty of bins around the site in general.
The toilets and showers were spotless, as usual on a Club site, and plenty of them.
I didn't try the bar, but there's a beer garden and a family room although unfortunately they don't allow dogs in the bar area so still out of bounds if the weather's bad.
The fact that it was out in the middle of nowhere was a plus for me especially as you could get the basics - milk, bread, eggs, etc. - from the shop at reception. I did need a 'proper' shop at one point, though, and the closest I could find was Asda at Kendal.
There is also now wi fi internet connection if you can't live without your computer. However, there is no digital TV reception at all but I got the 4 analogue channels OK.

This was our first visit to the Lakes. The site is quite large but doesn't feel it as it is spread out into smaller areas. The staff were very friendly & helpful throughout the week. The pitch was a good size. Showerblocks were very clean, plenty of hot water etc. Excellent dog walk from the site. Short drive from Windermere & excellent 'Outdoor' shop just up the road. Would definitely go back.

We ended up at this site after a mix up at another site, so it was at short notice that we got in. All the staff on the site were very helpful. It was our maiden voyage in a caravan so there were several snags but these were sorted out with the help of the staff.
We’ve stayed here before and the site is very good. The toilet / showers are very clean and well maintained. The onsite pub is good and has improved its menu.
There are plenty of places to go for a walk and Windermere is a short drive or a longer walk away.
Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.

We stayed on this site for 2 nights and on arrival were impressed with the site itself and the cleanliness of the facilities. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the on site bar and restaurant are handy, although not very big.
The only down side with this site was the fact that it is a little in the middle of nowhere, with the nearest village being a 3 mile hike up and down hill - so not recommended for children or pushchairs.
Windermere is a little further than implied on the literature about the site and without a car this can be problematic as local transport can be hit and miss.
Overall the site is very good, but not ideal if you want close by amenities and are reliant on foot or bikes, so as not to unhook your motorhome.
