This site was the third and final leg of our tour. Considering we only rang up the night before, we had an excellent pitch in a quiet corner. Reception doubles as a (very) small shop, although it does sell local sausages, eggs and bacon, however, it isn't open all day. The facilities are first class, with three ladies showers and two mens. A hairdryer was provided at 20p a go, but no socket for my hair-straighteners! The small pool looked enticing, but unfortunately we didn't get a chance to use it as the weather wasn't too kind. We visited Diggerland (1hr), Lyme Regis (25 mins) and Beer (The Anchor does a lovely Sea Bass!). Chard is just up the road with a Somerfield. There was an excellent park and a large trampoline, which our children enjoyed thoroughly and woodland walks through the camp. As mentioned by previous reviewers, the stars of the campsite are the owners dogs who come and visit you in your tent! We wanted to smuggle Freddie home too! All in all, a lovely site - earmarked to return.

Visited Alpine Grove as a 3 night stop off on our way home from Cornwall. It was my first experience of camping amongst the trees so the lack of grass on the pitch was new to me. If you go, make sure to take some sturdy pegs in case you pitch on tree roots like we did! We had a nice welcome from Richard the owner and the site itself is very picturesque. Not many toilets or showers but what there are are very modern and pretty clean. As it's a small site the amount of loos wasn't really an issue. We had a lot of rain while we were there after a dry spell and the owners were happy to lend us a squeegee mop to clear out the tent one morning. The film ' A River Runs Through It' springs to mind and my next tent will probably have a sewn in groundsheet! It's a nice site for families with young children, with a very relaxed feel. There were no rowdy groups and all was peaceful after dark. Mrs G loved it here but I prefer grassy sites so I'm not sure if we'll be returning. However, I would recommend Alpine Grove to anyone who likes camping in the woods, listening to the owls at night. Buy your Wookey Hole tickets at the site. Not only will you save a couple of quid but you'll miss big queues at 'the Hole'. Really good food at the Windwhistle Inn on the A30 the other side of Cricket St Thomas Wildlife Park. 5 minutes drive. My kids loved the trampoline in the play park.

Top site. Wooded, ideal location and never crowded. Friendly and helpful owners. Small shop with all the essentials. Simple and great fun with a small but entirely adequate pool. Have I mentioned it's a great site? No, really it is. There is not a lot else to say - this flipping review form keeps telling me to write more! Have I mentioned it's a lovely site? Hmm?

Nice type of family site which is best approached from the Cricket St Thomas end instead of through Forton. Very wooded so can be a bit dull unless you get a central pitch. But clean and tidy all the same, with plenty of space between pitches. Ground is very tough here so take a hammer and strong pegs, hopefully you can avoid all the roots
The shop is a little limited for supplies but as a reception the staff are very helpful and friendly. The facilities are very overstretched and there was continuous queueing for dish washing when you finally got there the water was cold. This is not just me complaining it was a common comment on the site. I like the surrounding countryside here so I would recommend the site but be aware of its limitations.

My family and I were looking for a place where we could stay for two weeks in July 2006 and Alpine Grove Touring Park turned out to be perfectly suited. The facilities were first-rate and with 3 boys, aged 8, 11 and 12, we were looking for a place were they would have the space to play without annoying people and they had. There even was a swimming pool. We had a wonderful pitch in amongst the trees with direct sunlight at the end of the day. Daily visits by Freddie and Murphy (the owner's dogs) and lots of things to do and places to visit (Haynes Car Museum and Cricket Saint Thomas were not a success, but the Air Fleet museum, Taunton and Lyme Regis were). The facilities were excellent and our stay quiet and peaceful. Only the last night was disrupted by noisy neighbours, but Mr Gurd, the owner of the site, dealt with them swiflty and effectively. All in all, we spent two wonderful weeks in Forton and will very likely return there sometime in the future

I would agree initially that this is a beautiful site. The owners cant do enough to help and have obviously put in a lot of time and money into making this site as comfortable and of the quality it is. The pitches were a good size, many with EHU, the wash rooms were of a very high modern standard with nice big showers that had lots of free hot water. (loved the trendy loo seats!) Pool warm and beautifully presented although not very big. My children loved the play area, with its large trampoline and made lots of friends, including 'freddie' the owners dog, and when leaving we were tempted to pack him up and take him home! The downsides, if there are any, were that the site is near a road and the road noise would wake us up in the mornings. The site was full the time we were there which made the noise from the children echo to quite a volume at times. The site wasn't as big as we expected and the ground can be hard in places. It rained some days whilst we were there and although this stopped you still got rain for sometime because of the trees and the ground in some areas was very muddy. Still worth a visit.

This is a fantastic site that we found while looking for reviews on this website in campsite search. We really did enjoy our stay here from the moment we arrived until we left and cannot find anything to complain about, as the facilities were good including the pool and new amenities block. The pitch sizes are maybe the biggest we have been allocated in our time camping and my wife loved to hear the Tawny Owls during the night in the tree's above. The weather was very hot the week we visited and it was nice to come back to the tent in the shade where it did not heat up too much, as most of the week we were there it was about 30 degree's. Our two daughters also loved the site too, especially the dogs Freddy and Murphy who they fell for so much that we are now looking for our own dog to take with us in the future. Will certainly visit again in the future and will forward t it even more next time as we know how good it is. Thanks to the owners of this site for a wonderful holiday and a great place to get away from it all.

Lovely campsite, just like their website shows. We all had a great week amongst the towering trees. We asked for a quiet pitch which the owners accommodated us with. Our daughters had a great time walking around the site with our dogs . Shower block was good and showers were always warm. Alpine Grove was a great place, we will be back!

We were looking for a nice site to relax with our dogs and boy did we get it. The owners were fantastic and very helpful and the facilities were second to none. We had ample space on our pitch and were not crowded at all. The children enjoyed the walks and park provided.
We read reviews before we went and were concerned about the toilet and shower facilities but on arrival this was put to rest as they have new facilities and they were brilliant. We left the dogs for a day to visit the local sites at a very reasonable price.
Going back again in a few months. Great Site.

I visited this site as part of a group of 10 adults and 9 children. The owners are friendly and helpful and provided us with a lovely pitch under trees which allowed us to form a rounded camp and we all had a fine time. The wooded area was great for the children to play in and the adults enjoyed strolling amongst the rhododendrons which were in flower. There was a large trampoline for the children which they enjoyed. The swimming pool was popular but never overcrowded, despite It being a bank holiday, and the children made great use of it. The washrooms are small but perfectly adequate for the size of the campsite. Some of our party returned there a few weeks later and reported a very warm welcome from the proprietors.
