Found this campsite on the UKCampsite website where the reviews made it very enticing. We were not disappointed and after the first time stay, we returned two weeks later. Owners were most welcoming and friendly and after showing us a variety of campsites to choose from, left us to ourselves to decide and settle in.
We chose to pitch our tent in one of the wooded sites where you have absolute privacy, however if that is not to your liking, you can also choose to camp in the open or on the grassed area with trees around you. There are also hard standing areas for caravans and motorhomes. There are electric hookups, though we do not have the facilities to use them.
The toilet facilities were very clean with four toilets and three showers in each of the ladies and mens adjoining shower block. There were outside dish washing area with four sinks and nearby were all the recycling bins. The hot water could have been hotter, but not a real issue.
There are walking trails that lead right from the campsite and if you like walking you can easily walk to Forde Abbey which is two miles from the campsite.
We noticed there were lovely facilities for children - a trampoline, large climbing area, swings and an outside table tennis table. You can buy fresh eggs and sausages from the on site shop and we highly recommend the sausages which were excellent and very meaty! We only stayed three nights on both occasions, but would definitely return here again and again because we loved the privacy and large size of the camping sites in the wooded areas.

Only stayed here for one night, but found this site to have enough appeal to make us want to go back.
Great for kids, with a playground, trampoline and a wooded area set aside for them to have all sorts of adventures. Never used the heated pool but it did look good.
Shower and toilet blocks were minimal, but clean and with plenty of hot water. Despite there only being two showers in the mens block I never experience a queue.
Pitches were well spaced so you always felt comfortable and relaxed. We stayed in the forest area, which means a few twigs under the ground sheet, but it provided a bit of extra cover being able to set up under trees.
Overall a nice site, in a great setting, with a relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be going back.

Just returned from an 8 night stay at this centre.
Arrived with a warm welcome from the owner Richard, very helpful and kind.
Lovely site nestled in the trees. Firepits are a great idea, but we brought our own with us and it saved a lot of money as they £15 per night.
Only 3 showers in the ladies bathroom you had to time it right so you did not have to queue as it was very busy. My husband reports there are only 2 showers in mens very busy also.(But it is school holidays).
Toilets were always clean and tidy as was the site really.
If anyone is interested washing machine £2.50, tumble dryer £1.00 all with tokens from the shop.
Hair dryer 20p.
Great park for the children mine were 12, 10, 8 and 6. But they did prefer to ride their bikes in the woods and along the cycle routes.
Mobile chip van well worth a visit, thoroughly enjoyed ours and not to expensive.
Great central location for travelling, we met some wonderful people.
Sorry my negative points. Lots of dog poo around you seem to find it everywhere. I actually got very annoyed towards the end of our stay as I cannot remember how many times my children came back with it all over there feet. Dogs also urinated on peoples tents. As you can imagine very annoying and disgusting.
Pitch sizes were ok.
I think this site is expensive we paid £39.50 per night

We've just returned from a 4-night stay at this site and would definitely return. We were greeted by a very friendly welcome and immediately shown to our pitch - one very minor point is it would have been useful to have been given a little local info on places to eat, pubs, shops etc. Obviously, we could have asked, but by the time we were set up and ready to pop out, the site shop was closed! On that note, we would recommend the Route 66 American Diner in Axminster, a very unique dining experience. We tried River Cottage, but as it was 9pm, we were told that the chef wouldn't be cooking anymore main dishes - a little bizarre for a Saturday night!
We also ate out one evening at the Cotley Inn in nearby Wambrook - the owners here are very friendly and extremely accommodating, particularly with regard to children's' meals.
Back to the site.We were located in a small woodland part very close to the play area which was great as we had 3 children aged 7 to 10 so this was ideal and we felt very comfortable letting them go off by themselves. The pitch was extremely ample and very private. The shower / toilet block was more than adequate - on arrival, I wondered if 3 showers and 3 loos would be enough, but it was fine.I only had to wait for a shower one morning and that was only for about 5 minutes. They were also kept very clean and well stocked with loo rolls etc.
The shop is adequate for necessities, but we travelled into Chard to do our 'proper' shop at Sainsburys. The pool is a nice touch, although a bit crowded at times.
The fire pits are a great idea and we loved using it - it certainly took the chill off the evening! We also hired one of their new electric bikes which was an absolute bargain (£20 for one day) and a great idea for those of us who wouldn't otherwise have gone on a 15-mile bike ride!
All in all, a very nice, well maintained site for a relaxing break. We would have no hesitation in recommending this site.
Lastly, we thoroughly enjoyed our daily visits from Freddie the resident American Cocker Spaniel!

Some pitches had sun but ours was so dark, small and set in the woods, we were not given the choice. The kids enjoyed the pool which was small but warm and it was so annoying that the owners closed it at 5.30pm !
It was sandwiched between 2 roads and you took your life in your hands if you went for a dog walk. Not many nice walks unfortunately either from site. Expensive also, we paid half the price last year at a great site in Wales. Owners even charge for a photocopy of a walk ! The usual campsite rule of keeping dogs on a lead at all times was not enforced by all(only by us and a few others), the owners dogs roamed around the site pooing and weeing. Not nice.
We had some nice trips to Lynton (2hr drive) and Cheddar Gorge (1 hr), Lyme Regis (20min) Beer had nice lunch, Donkey Santuary -free!, Axminster (a dive) and Seaton (horrible) Tram ride what a ripoff !

We were booked in for one week but left after two nights due to bad weather, not sure if we would have stayed any longer if the weather was nice though. The site itself is situated in a pine forest, so even if the sun is shining it seems very dark on the site.
The pool was tiny and our children didn't go in it. The pitch we were given was bit out of the way and we found a few dog poos next to it. The owners dogs do roam the site and may come in to your tent.
The toilet block was not the cleanest, the toilets smelt and the floor was hazardous due to mud after the rain fall. The bins were also over flowing and were attracting wasps. Overall it wasn't the best site we have been too.

Have just returned from a week's stay at Alpine Grove with mixed feeling's.
The site itself is based in a woodland setting, which sound's rustic and charming. Which it is, you can pitch up in the wood's if desired, or on the three grassed area's next to the wood's, there are hard standing's for caravan's too.
The fact that this site is based in the wood's also work's against it too, we had a lot of rain during our stay, because the site is well shaded by all the tree's, tent's took a lot longer to dry out, mud was in abundance around the children's play area which also meant our kid's were bringing the wood's into our tent too. Being such a shady site slowed the drying and draining of all the wet weather we had making life on site a damp affair long after the rain had stopped.
The shower block struggled with the high season demands too. Sewage odour was quite strong in the afternoon's and one of the men's urinal's kept overflowing soaking the floor on a daily basis. The shower's themselves were fine and clean with plenty of hot water.
The owner's of the site were very friendly and helpful. The shop was well stocked with children's toy's and camping good's, wet weather gear is available too.The local bacon, sausages and free range egg's they sell were wonderful and highly recommended. The small pool was a welcome sun trap which we used when it warmed up, our kid's had a wonderful afternoon splashing around.
They had a local charity barbecue on the site which was a great way to meet your neighbour's.
A local fish and chip van visits the site on Tuesday's too, very nice fish and fairly priced too.
It's about a twenty five minute drive to Lyme Regis and Charmouth seaside resort's. Charmouth is great for fossil hunting and has a stunning back drop of cliff's and meadow's adding to the beauty.
Lyme Regis has a large beach which is mainly pebbly but has a sandy stretch near the harbour. It has plenty of shop's and pub's to keep you amused if you can stray from the beach.
Due to the un-reliability of the English summer weather, we wont return to Alpine Grove, but that is just our personal choice. If you do book up and get good weather, the site will reward you with a wonderful time, where you wont get too hot due to the dapple shade, your children (if you have them) can play in and out of the wood's and the small play park without getting burned too easily too.

A really great site and we arrived to a nice friendly welcome.
The pitches are flat and nicely spaced out. The toilets were always clean and we never had to queue.
This site is very dog/child friendly. There is a modern playground and trampoline to keep the kids quiet or they can explore the woodland area. (includes WW2 pillbox!) The outdoor heated swimming pool seems very popular to.
The good thing about this site is that you can rent fire-pits! Makes the camping experience that much better to be able to sit round a fire and toast marshmallows!
We will be returning to this site again.

Booked this site as had problems trying to get in anywhere for halfterm, so glad we did! Fantastic small site about 45 pitches, clean modern toilets, showers.
Playpark which included a trampoline, small but very warm outdoor pool. We were pitched up in the woods which was nice and secluded although I think if we return I will ask to be in the main area, I like to people watch, had a small fire in the barbeque after eating each night with wood gathered from around the site.
Whilst there we visited Lyme Regis about 20mins away and ate at the River cottage canteen in Axminster, which was delightful and to my surprise very cheap!
Overall its a lovely site, lots of children around but the noise completely dropped off by 10 ish.

Beautiful site, smaller than expected upon arrival, greeted by kind staff, shown to pitch and was offered to cut some bushes back to get onto pitch.
Very nice swimming pool, great heat. The toilets were great and showers perfect. Apart from some strange porcelain thing sticking out by urinals which our toddler walked into. Nice little shop selling some basics with a smile.
Great site to walk around and great little park.
Now the only bad points, owner dog's not on lead, and one of them entering our awning and lucky to get out as our GSD doesn't take kindly to uninvited guests. And there seemed a bit of dog poo about when we arrived, might be other camper or owners dog's?
I would advise you pick up the signs for site and head out towards cricket St Thomas as the roads are better this way, and no speed bumps.
Would go back for a weekend or two.
Chard has a nice little town centre to walk around with all the town shops you'd expect, with a 24 hr tesco and cricket St Thomas not to far away.
