Visited Bwch yn Uchaf on a walking holiday of Snowdonia. What a find! Pitched up right next to the river which was idyllic and so peaceful. Great location for walks up to the Arenig (walk straight from the site) and only a 10minute walk to local pub which served great pub food.
Toilets and showers clean (water nice and hot)and even the portable loos at the far end of site were clean.
Site quite busy (there over a weekend) but fortunately chose our own pitch when we arrived which was away from other campers.
Definitely visiting again later in the year before it gets too cold!

We visited this site for 7 nights at the end of July in our tent with hook-up after reading the great reviews on this site.
On arriving we drove onto site looking for the office and ended up asking a woman stood outside her tent were we had to go. You have to book in at the house (there were no signs)and throughout the coming week we saw lots of people doing exactly the same!.
The owner was very friendly and always on hand to help.
The facilities were ok maybe could have been a bit cleaner but as the site was not full it didn't matter.
There is a lovely river that runs along the site which was great for our son as there is no play ground.
My gripe would be that people are allowed to camp on the river bank which I thought spoilt the look of the site a little.
Military aircraft did fly overhead once while we were there and although it was loud we didn't mind.
There is no shop on site.
The village has a pub serving food The eagle inn which we had a drink in,we didn't eat there but the meals looked good. The pub we presume was being renovated and the stark white walls and bright downlighters did nothing for the atmosphere.
10 mins away was Bala with everything you might need including a leisure centre.
Overall a good site with great views.

On arrival we were shown to our pitch which was opposite the corrugated iron barn which was the toilet/shower block. This was basic and had a constant procession of campers driving to and from the toilets which made it quite unsafe for the children to play near the caravan. Campers are asked to park at the top near the house if using the toilet but this was not adhered to or checked upon. These appeared to be the only facilities for a huge camping field hence the noise disturbance.
The electric hook up pitches were in a very narrow field with no views, the camping field was beautiful with lovely views and really spacious completely opposite to the electric hook up field if a little far from the toilets hence the drivers!
The location of the site is good for a stop over en route to further a field. The Eagle pub was a real gem with lovely food and drink in a sleepy village. The steam train station above the campsite was also really picturesque with very friendly staff keen to chat to the children, well worth a look with beautiful flowers decorating the station.
Overall view if you're in a tent and don't mind basic facilities the camping field is in a lovely setting but we wouldn't recommend this site to tourers after our experience.

We have just been on our first camping holiday and decided to go to Bwch Yn Uchaf after all the good reviews.
When we arrived Gareth was really nice and very helpful. We chose our own pitch on the bottom field the little stream was just the other side of the hedge and the other side of that there were some sheep. We didn't choose to have electric hook up so had much more of a choice.
The space was fantastic it was the first week our kids were off school for summer hols so we were worried about space but the kids had plenty of room to run around and play ball games, they even made friends with some of the other kids on the site and they all played foot ball and cricket. They loved it. Our kids are 3, 7 and 12.
The facilities are very clean considering they are being used around the clock, there was never a queue for the showers or the loo when we were there. I didn't use the portaloos but Mike did and he said they were clean and tidy. The washing up space was big enough for 3 families to wash up at once, there was a washing machine and a drier there,I didn't use them but other people did.
The area itself is beautiful, surrounded by hills in every direction and there were footpath signs dotted around both in the village and on the way to Bala. Just put your boots on and go. Sadly the shop in Llanuwychllyn has closed but I believe the Eagles Inn in the village sells the staples. We bought most of our essentials in Bala on the way back from trips out as well as stopping off at the chippy. Bala is about 10 mins away in the car.
The little steam railway runs along the back of the campsite and the little station situated at the entrance of the campsite has a small gift shop and cafe, which is great for a cuppa and slice of cake. I took our youngest child on the train to Bala and she loved it. (under 5s are free to travel) each morning we saw the train getting ready to go out and in the evening she liked to watch the train 'going to bed'.
Barmouth is a short drive away if you want to take a trip to the seaside. Bala is pretty well situated and there are plenty of places to visit an hrs drive away (although this part of wales does lack in BIG family attractions). But quite frankly the surroundings make up for this the kids were happy to play on the site or go for a walk.
The site is excellent value for money clean tidy and family friendly.
I could just go on and on about this site.
I couldn't fault it in any way and we will definitely be going back.

As all the other reviews have said, this is a lovely site with welcoming owners. We have been on two occasions, both when the site was full, yet it didn't feel overcrowded at all. There was still plenty of room for the kids to play football, rounders and cricket. It is a sociable site, our children have played happily with the other children on the site. There isn't a playground for the kids, but they don't seem to miss one at all - sometimes you don't see them for hours!
Tips: Bring kites for playing on the top field. If your children are old enough, a small dinghy to play on the river. If your children are too young, bring a dinghy anyway - they will have just a much fun sliding down the banking in it! A pair of waterproof trousers also helps the slide down the banking. Our children spend hours sliding down it! (Please remind your children to be respectful, our friends tent was damaged with some other children running around their tent in the dark - they ripped the guidewires from the tent) When you arrive, first things first, wedge your beers in the river - when your tent is up and you are all sorted, they are just at the right temperature!
I did encounter queues for the showers at peak times in a morning, but which site on a busy bank holiday weekend would not? £1 for the washing machine and same for the dryer.
You won't find a huge supermarket for supplies in Bala, but there is adequate at the Coop or Spa.
I have to say that I personally wouldn't book one of the electric pitches next to the facilities. As a previous reviewer said, some campers do seem to like to drive there, I would find that extremely annoying, and I would be concerned about the children playing there. It does seem quite noisy. Even though we have always been used to electric hook up, I havent missed it at this site. Just buy plenty of the £1 camping lights from Poundland or the like, plenty of wood for the fire and food for your barbie and you're sorted!

Fabulous campsite! Visited with four friends and a dog.
Spacious site - we chose our own pitch when we arrived which was nice. Camped right next to the river - peaceful spot with stunning views!
Loads of walks straight from the campsite (flat and steep!) all had a great time (incl the dog).
Toilets and showers were cleaned regularly so were very clean whenever we went in. Also the cleanest portable loos I've ever seen.
Lovely owners.

What a fab weekend had by us all! This campsite is great its set by the river with gorgeous scenery, very friendly owners who both make you feel very welcome. The toilets/showers are clean and there is a disabled shower room which was great for showering the kids.
The only thing was there is no play area for the kids but they did have lots of fun playing on the large field and in the shallow river that runs along the campsite. The great thing was that campfires are allowed as long as its in the wheel rims provided and you can purchase logs / kinderling from the owners it was wonderful sat out under the stars with a beer round the campfire what more does anyone want!
We went on the steam train which goes from the station which is next to the campsite to Bala which the kids absolutely loved. We ate out one night at the family friendly Eagles Inn pub which we would highly recommend the food was homecooked and gorgeous whilst being reasonably priced and only a short distance away!
There is nothing negative about this site and is well worth a visit we will definitely be returning very soon!

The campsite is in a fairly good location but was disappointed as there didn't seem to be any walks from it. I think we would have to drive somewhere to go walking.
There was plenty of hot water for the showers but the showers weren't as clean as we were expecting - the cleanliness was adequate. It was a little bit of a trek to the showers and toilets. There were portable loos between the 2 main camping fields which were in a very clean state.
The pub in the local village is within a short walking distance. The owners were very friendly and very helpful.

Our 2nd visit to this fantastic site this year! We loved the warm welcome so much in May we decided to return with 3 other families making 17 of us including all the children.
We were given our own little field so we would not disturb anyone else, and this enabled us to set up our own little canvas village while the kids went off exploring. Plenty of room for a firepit & kitchen area & also a game of rounders on the saturday during the brief sunshine!
I can't tell you enough how friendly Gareth & his wife are, and will do all possible to make sure you have a lovely stay - showers & portable loos are always clean & they have a lovely relaxed approach.Highly Highly recommend this site & don't forget to eat at The Eagles Inn - it's delicious

Stayed here for 5 nights 2 adults and two young children. The site's quite well situated, right next to the narrow gauge railway station which our children loved (though it was quite expensive to ride on).
The river runs right next to the site and was lovely. The owners were really friendly and helpful, and the facilities were kept reasonably clean. We never encountered any queues for showers or washing up. The pub in the village was within walking distance and did ok food though I wouldn't say it was fantastic. 10 minutes drive from Bala town with its shops and a couple of pubs.
Unfortunately we were allocated a pitch right by the facilities block, which was also under some quite dense trees, so our tent ended up filthy. The proximity of the pitch to the facilities also meant more or less constant noise as most people seemed to feel the need to drive to the block rather than walking - the large percentage of these ignoring the 5mph speed limit - meaning it wasn't very safe for our children to play.
Our pitch was at the base of a large slope leading up to the main driveway out, which most of the children on the site played on, endless frisbees / balls etc hitting our tent and kids miles away from their own pitches shrieking inches from us, and at its worst throwing water bombs at each other around us while we were trying to enjoy our meal (there was a tap by our pitch) it didn't make for much relaxation. Obviously this is not the fault of the site nor the owners, but unsupervised children spoiling things for others.
We don't have a dog though the site does allow them. However, twice that we saw dogs were running free round the site, and on one of these occasions one large dog ran into our tent, right into the bedroom where my 4 year old was getting dressed and consequently she ended up extremely distressed, so either more care on the part of the dog owners or more enforcement of the rules is needed.
There did seem to be a lot of tents pitching together in groups, at least one lot of of which near us did make a lot of noise, though this did quiet down by around 11pm.
In all the site was nice and we had a good time but it did have quite a few downsides for us. I do think we were unlucky with our pitch, and had this been different we might have had a more relaxing tieme.
