Nice site and reasonably priced - £10 per night for two adults.
The owner was around and about quite a lot to see how people were doing and if they were happy which was nice.
The toilet and shower facilities were well maintained with free showers which is great. It was nice to see some soap on the basins and the fact that they had a shower room adapted for disabled visitors - well done!
I would happily go again. Unfortunately we had bad weather there last weekend and didn't get a lot of chance to explore apart from a trip to Barmouth but there is a steam railway very near by, a small village and Lake Bala.

Agree with everything RufusandChica says in previous review - Just returned from a 5 night break at this site. Very nice break, owner (Gareth) was very friendly and pottering about most of the time, site very relaxed. Suitable, level size pitch for our c.Van/awning/car. Lovely listening to sound of the stream and the children playing in it. Dont worry about it being next to the steam train - runs only couple of times in the day so noise not a problem, nice friendly cafe/shop on the platform. Definitely will go back there again.

We've just returned from spending one night at this campsite, and couldn't be more pleased. The site was absolutely beautiful, we were free to park ourselves anywhere on the whole site and we chose a spot away from other campers (partly to avoid their noise, partly to prevent our dogs bothering them)with a beautiful view and close to the railway so our toddler could wave to the trains.
The site is just stunning, the river safe and pretty and clean, and all the stock fences in good order so you can (if you have no neighbours to annoy) let your dogs run loose. I think there was only one tent without dogs attached - a bit of a doggie-paradise campsite.
I found the ladies toilets and showers absolutely fine. There were two showers, one in a normal size cubicle, and one 'open plan' in a room with a toilet - very suitable if you need to take small children in to shower. It was all clean, and the water was plentiful and hot. The washing-up room had hot water and was also clean. My husband said there was just one shower in the gents. I don't know how it would be in peak season, but I suppose if the number of bookings is limited then there wouldn't be a problem?
There is a lovely pub, the Eagle, a 15 minute walk away through the village. Very friendly and good food, but I would recommend booking unless you're going at 'toddler-time' as we did. All the tables were reserved but they were happy to feed us before their later diners came.
We took the railway to Bala and had lunch at the White Lion hotel. Not much to look at on the outside, but very good quality indeed.
All in all, I'd go back tomorrow!
We paid £14.50 and think this was very good value.

I think this site must have changed since previous reports were submitted. I was expecting something special. This wasnt it! No doubt the surrounding scenery is spectacular, but that is what you expect in snowdonia. My difficulties were
1) although the owner was friendly, he was very rarely on site. We saw him twice in a 4 day stay. Once on the day after we had arrived and pitched, for him to collect his money, and the scond time when he came to give us our receipt. It is lucky we didnt have too many problems, because there was nobody present for us to turn to had we needed them. There is no shop on site and no wardens hut(or much else for that matter.
2) The toilet block is very very basic. In the gents there is one loo and one shower. The shower is next to the toilet but is not enclosed, so I had the lovely experience of having 2 showers whilst listening to someone sit barely 10 inches from me whilst depositing yesterdays food waste. Not an experience I wish to repeat. The toilet block was rarely sparkling clean, but was barely acceptable. The ladies also had only one shower, but I am reliably informed (the missus)that the water pressure was so low, that it rendered the shower virtually unuseable. The wash up sinks were pitiful and I dont think they had been cleaned since the season had begun. The water temp was hit and miss. Sometimes very hot, sometimes very cold.
That is all that can be reported about this site because thats all that was here. A large field, about 12 EHU's and a shoddy toilet block.
Bala itself is a beautiful area and has lots to do if you want outdoor action stuff with a very pleasant little town. I will be returning to the area but have already sourced a much better site to visit.

Just spent 3 fantastic nights at this site. We visited on a weekend in October which was pretty quiet and so there was no issue of queueing for the showers or loos. The facilities were so clean that I felt bad walking in there with my muddy boots on! The showers were spotless, hot and the kind you might have at home (no tokens needed or button in the wall to press every 30 seconds!) but if you need to dry your hair afterwards, you do need to bring your own hairdryer. There are plug sockets in the toilet block for this.
Gareth the owner is a friendly chap and we found a lovely warm welcome at the local village pub, The Eagles Inn, even though every Welsh person in there was rooting for England to lose the rugby world cup final!
We loved the fact that we were allowed to have a campfire and were able to dip our feet in the river after walking (slowly!) up the massive hill (mountain?!) which can be seen to the south of Llanuwchllyn.
We arrived on a Friday and left on a Monday morning and on both these days, there were jet planes training in the valley, which, as avid airshow fans suited us fine. On Monday, after a low flying wake up call, we had breakfast outside while 2 jets provided our own airshow! There was none of this on Saturday or Sunday though, so if you like your peace and quiet, don't let this put you off!
All in all, a great, laid back but well kept site, with a beautiful surrounding area.

This was our third visit to Bwch Yn Uchaf and every year it gets better, The Male toilet block was indeed muddy but it was clear that it was certainly not Gareth's fault, it's bad enough him having to cope with the extraordinarily wet weather without the added burden of campers with a complete lack of thought for others. It beats me how they managed to spread the mud so far around the place and why bits of tree were thrown about the urinals is way beyond my comprehension. I know for certain that the showers etc. Are cleaned every day and I feel it is the responsibility of all visitors to the site to clean up after themselves when they make a mess especially in bad weather.
The rain was torrential when we arrived and the pitch we had booked had standing water, Gareth kindly allowed us to pitch in the little orchard behind his house and helped to get the trailer through the mud. This man is a complete gentleman and his site is THE best we have ever visited, despite the rain we had a great time amongst scenery that is the best on God's green earth - good on you Gareth thanks for a great holiday we'll be back!
Local attractions include Bala, good food and shops, Shell Island (near Harlech) - if you have Sat. Nav. Switch it to shortest route and have an exciting trip over the mountains and see the sheep, sheep and more sheep! Watch for the gates and cattle grids though. Barmouth is not far and has a wonderful clean beach with large safe pools as the tide goes out, excellent for the children. There are slate and copper mines to explore all reasonably priced (entrance to Llanberis slate museum is free and has cheap pay and display parking) and steam trains galore especially the cute little engines that run on the Bala Lake railway, the station is at the campsite entrance. Other attractions that are within easy reach by car are Corris craft centre which includes the spectacular King Arthurs' Labyrinth, The Ffestiniog railway, Porthmerion (where 'The Prisoner' series was filmed) and so much more.

Bwch Yn Uchaf is the best campsite in the whole of Llanuwchllyn! Only joking it's the best campsite in the whole of Great Britain! Gareth the owner is so laid back I thought he'd fall over. We stayed here the last week of August and had a cracking 3 days. We had two tents, two Adults, two kids and one dog. The kids loved the little river and the fact we had campfires and wanted to stay on for longer. Gareth and his wife were so helpful and when our dog snapped his collar they knew where to guide us for a replacement. Bala town and watersports centre are only a Steam trains distance away (yes a steam train right on your doorstep!) and there are plenty of hills to go walking in. Will definitely be going back again!

Although the staff are helpful and friendly enough, we feel that there are insufficient facilities ie toilets, showers sinks and mirrors for the numbers of campers allowed on the campsite. The numbers of lazy people who drive from their units to the toilet blocks are unbelievable!

This site has the best views of Wales also next to a minature steam railway, unfortunately the weather was dreadful constant rain. The nearest shops are in Bala its self for your provisions & a look around The site its self was average the owner was helpful but the shower & toilet block lacked cleaning (bad weather did not help) the shower & toilet block its self could probably do with a serious refurbishment to bring it modern standards one male shower & toilet (lots of queuing) is not enough for this campsite, the reasonably rates may reflect this.

This site must have the best views in Wales. Its right next to a miniature steam railway. The showers and toilets are reasonable. My children were able to run around to their hearts content and catch small fish in the stream, which is right at the side of the site and is no more than knee deep. The five days we were there the weather was wonderful. I would recommend this site to all.
