Just had our first camping experience for several years as a family and could not have wished for a better location!
All the other reviews say it all, the facilities are basic but kept clean and tidy owners are really helpful and make you feel welcome, with a bit of thought there are some great walks from here ranging from a mile to full days trek!
(If you want 5* go to a hotel!)
The railway is a good attraction with a pleasant ride into Bala and along with the swimming pool and water sports etc there are plenty of activities in the area, the local flea pit is also worth a visit!
The site is quiet, basic, but clean and well managed if it had not rained when we had our stay for 2 out of 4 days it would have been perfect the river next to the site is a great distraction for the kids!
Have planned 2 more visits next year with the logs already ordered for the open camp fires!

Visited this site early September with another family.
Really nice setting and breathtaking scenery. Just next to a shallow river and a little narrow gauge railway station which kept the children amused all weekend.
Campsite allow campfires which was great to sit around and chat in the evenings (to the sound of the river next to us). Lots of space for the kids to run around and play, although no swings/slides plenty of other things and places to explore. Children made friends with 5 gorgeous white ducks that came past the tent on the river each morning.
3 immaculate loo's next to the river (cleanest I've ever come across).
Very friendly gentleman (owner I think) helped us with firewood, firepit, firelighters etc. And also advised us on the best places to eat/drink locally (The Eagles Inn which was a 10 minute walk from the site is highly recommended and Plas yn Dre in Bala). Although we visited these Inn's during teh day and stayed in the site in teh evenings we were told that they also serve food and are child friendly in the evenings.
Very relaxed feel - chose our own pitch on arrival and could phone a telephone number if we needed anything at any time.
Main toilet block near the main house. Men's- 2 urinals, 1 toilet cubicle and 1 shower.
Extra unisex toilet block attached to house - separate toilet and large power shower.
Female - 2 toilet cubicles, 2 showers.
Disabled male/female- large wet room. Ideal space for cleaning the kids. Power sockets for hairdryer's / straighteners etc.
Very impressed with the facilities - immaculate as cleaned a few times a day, every day. Endless supply of VERY soft toilet roll (unlike the ones supplied at other campsites). Also, no need for coins as not meter fed. Lots of hot water.
Laundry/wash room. Clean, again lots of hot water to wash dishes. A great supply of novels to read (take one/leave one basis) - handy. Noticeboard with details of local activities etc.
Washing machine/tumble dryer (coin operated).
All in all great campsite, clean, friendly adn very relaxed. A great find and will definitely be visiting again next year.

This is possibly the most beautiful site we have ever been to - stunning scenery all around, an absolute pleasure to wake up in the morning and look out, especially when it was misty one morning - quite high up there so the clouds are low. Quite liked the jets that fly over, though they do make you jump! Was also lovely that we had the field to ourselves after the first night - parked in the far corner by the train tracks. I recommend a walk down the train tracks in the evening - met some friendly horses in a nearby field.
Owners were very helpful, lending us a book with walking routes, and some bricks for our BBQ.
Only negative is the facilities - arachnophobes beware! My fiancé counted 16 spiders in the men's - after the first time I used them, I tried not to look and kept my hat on so they didn't fall on my head! To be fair, is was Sept when there are more creepy crawlies around, and I think they tried to brush them out in the mornings.
The facilities were the only negative for us - far more basic than we are used to, and a bit of a disappointment to be honest, quite shabby and could do with more thorough cleaning. I ended up showering in the disabled toilet because there was more room and less creatures!
Would recommend a walk up the nearby hill (the one with the tree sticking out the top) - amazing views from the top, of the campsite and the lake. Bit breezy though! Turn left onto the main village road, and look for the public footpath sign on the right. I also recommend looking for kingfishers on the stream - follow the stream to the right as far as you can go, sit on the stumps there, and wait!
We would definitely go again for a weekend, as the location was so amazing, but we wouldn't stay a week again unless the facilities were improved.

Very different to what I expected from their website. The house which looked unlived in had a bit of paper stuck on the door, giving a phone no. For enquiries.
Directly behind there is a very tiny square for Camping Club, right up against the 3-floor house. Way down below the entrance drive is the utilities which looked like a converted barn. In the gents are just 2 urinals and tiny handbasins, 1 toilet cubicle with a handbasin, and 1 shower, that is all. Water is hot and there is no meter.
Outside, another doorway led to both a unisex shower and the ladies. On the right of the site is a square with hard standing and EHU's, and beyond this a huge, open flat field with little shelter. All along one side of this is an unsightly collection of engine sheds and railway buildings.
Down a track on the left is a narrow flat area by the river, where a high bank offers shelter, and here there is a group of blue 'sentry box' portaloos. The Eagles pub in the village is a bit stark inside, with bare white walls, but the menu is good and they had Glaslyn beer.
I paid £7 to a friendly man who came to my tent at 9 in the morning. If the site had better facilities I might use it again, but overall it had a really depressing feel - and that was before it started raining!

Such a lovely, peaceful campsite with beautiful scenery. Not too far from Bala, about 15 minutes drive.
We pitched our tent by the stream which was shallow enough for the children to play in. Facilities were good. We pitched far from the main area so we had the use of portaloos which had toilet paper provided.
The only thing was that the washing facility was a bit of a walk because it was by the main area but according to my husband who did the washing up, the facilities were clean. Nice little pub 10 minutes walk away. Camp fire was allowed, you can buy the logs from reception. The owners seemed friendly and welcoming. We will definitely put this campsite on our list of 'to stay again'.

On arrival the owner was friendly and more than helpful, said we could park our camper van anywhere we wanted, also gave us a quick run down of where the sites facilities were (eg: shower block / toilets).
The site is in a lovely picturesque spot with a distant view of lake Bala, also has wonderful views of the mountains in that area.
In addition we were also delighted to find that the station for the Bala lake steam railway is right next door to the campsite, and in the morning we were able to watch the steam trains being prepared for their days work (not something we have seen in other campsites).
In general the site is basic but clean and tidy and has ample room for campers to spread out in the main field. If you want you can even pitch up next to the small stream which runs through the site however this seemed a popular location and as such we chose to camp in the main field where there was plenty of space.
Only minor issues I noted was that there only appeared to be one shower in the mens toilet block, however there is a shower for disabled campers, and (I presume) a shower/showers in the ladies toilet block.
Also troubled once or twice by noisy jets flying low over the site, but did not really spoil our visit in any way as they are gone as quickly as they appear in the sky.
All in all a nice site that would suit anyone who likes a bit of peace and quiet with magnificent scenery all around.
Originally booked for two nights, but whilst there booked an extra night as the site was so pleasant.
Would definitely camp there again.

Just back from a 2 night stay.Great site with loads of room to pitch your tent.We chose a pitch on the lower field near to the river. The kids had a great time in the shallow river.
The main shower/toilet block is a bit of a walk from the far end of the site where we were but there are portaloos situated near to the middle of the site.
The Bala lake railway station is right next to the site and there is a leisure centre in Bala which has a pool.Other than that we found the immediate surrounding area a bit limited for the kids.We drove out to the beach at Barmouth and then onto Porthmadog and Portmeirion.
But make no mistake this is a fantastic site with great views and loads of space to play games. Most people pitch on the main field but it was certainly not overcrowded. As I say we chose the lower field by the river where there was only 2 other tents.
A must is the firepit hire for your camp fire and don't forget your disposable BBQ!Also don't forget to bring some wooden kebab sticks and a large bag of marshmellows to toast on the fire!
Overall I was very impressed with this site. The pitch anywhere policy, the camp fires, the views and peaceful location. The owners were very helpful and friendly and always about.Great communication via email prior to our trip.
I would highly recommend this site and would love to go again. It is the best site I've been to.
If your looking for a site in Bala or indeed Wales then choose this one!

The camp site is a good size and pretty well tended the utilities are basic but cleaned daily, the river was a welcome addition offering child friendly paddling and pond dipping with many small fish and creatures. The drainage of the fields were superb having had an extremely wet start to the first week the ground remained firm underfoot.
The narrow gauge track adjacent started early but was not at all intrusive with the fireman setting to work preparing for the mornings steam quiet pleasant at breakfast time in fact.
The owners are extremely welcoming and happy to help where they can
A small local pub with good quality fresh food and a decent beer on tap that allows dogs in the bar area.
They allow large groups but they continued to keep an eye and made sure the party spirit didn't upset the other campers.
Open fires are allowed on plots away from the hook ups but to be on raised firepits or he supplies the facility.
All in all a very pleasant site quiet and tidy a great base to tour the north wales areas from.

Although we arrived on a busy weekend we were able to pitch near the river. The campsite is quiet being a mile or so off the main road unlike other sites nearby.
The views are fantastic and there is a quiet local pub about 20 minutes walk away which has a decent menu. We used the site as a base for walking and it is possible to walk to Aran Fawddwy although it will take a few hours and it's recommended to take a bus back to the village.
Toilet facilities are adequate, sometimes needing cleaned more frequently when the site is busy. There are also disabled facilities. The washing up room could do with more light in the evenings and main shower block can be a bit of trek. It seems like a second block at the other end of the site would be useful. However, there are portable loo's at the other end of from the main wash block.
A lot of popularity I think comes from being featured in cool camping Wales. Very busy on the weekend and quiet during the week but plenty of space.

Cant say a bad word about this site. From word go we were very impressed! Toilets and showers excellent and very clean, site lovely fantastic scenery, great location.
We were under the impression that the top field was the family friendly field so we pitched on the lower field however this didn't seem to be the case. Very family friendly site a little too family friendly for us! still would still go back just book a pitch tucked away!
