My first review & first camping holiday.
We stayed at Bwch yn Uchaf for two nights at the beginning of June. We had a really good time & it's an excellent base for days out in North Wales. Gareth, the owner, is great and always happy to help should you need any help/advice.
Toilets were very clean & plentiful but most people used the main block which resulted in queues in the morning, there are more facilities on site which we were told about when we arrived but it would appear that most people didn't listen or just couldn't be bothered to walk.
No major problems but next time we go we won't be pitching near the toilet/shower block for two reasons:
1) Trees = sap all over my tent! (I'm learning the hard way) 2) Cars going to the toilets = some people are VERY lazy! Not ideal when young children are running around so next time I'll insist on a pitch with hook-up elsewhere on the site.
We'll definitely be going back again in the future.
P.S I highly recommend The Eagles Inn which is the traditional pub in the village with excellent home made food.

It is clear from of our Park reviews that some of the reviewers have not found all our toilets/showers! Clearly we need to be better at bringing them to our visitors attention. In fact we have:- a gents toilet, shower and urinals; a disabled toilet and shower; a ladies toilet block with 2 toilets and a shower. There are also 2 further toilets and a shower room. Additional washing up facilities were made available for Easter 2007 and laundry facilities added for Whit 2007.

Stayed here for the weekend two weeks ago. Its in a beautiful area and has a river running alongside which you have access to.It was next to a pretty steam railway which the kids loved. The owners and their dog millie were lovely. We had to go looking for them to pay them as they are obviously very laid back. We took our dog along and she and the kids enjoyed playing in the river. We even saw an otter early one morning and it made the holiday. The toilets are clean but basic, they only have two and a disabled one. Also only one shower plus disabled one (female). Only five mins from Bala town with pubs, take aways and shops. beautiful part of the world and great if not basic site.

Stayed here over the Easter weekend and was overall very pleased with the site location and facilities. There is a small river that leads to Bala lake on one side of the site, but no direct access to the lake. The other side of the site has the mini steam railway to Bala town and a station so the surrounding are great. The area has lots of walking paths and a local guide book (£5) will take you through a wide variety of routes. There is a small gift shop at the railway station but no other shop in the village. The local pub is a few minutes walk away but we didn't visit it. The site owners were very friendly and helpful although we did have some problems with getting hot water for the dishes and showers not working. The shower and toilet facilities are limited as described in previous posts but free of charge and clean. The owner was stopping ground fires as there was some concern about the size of the fires but was introducing fire bowls for all those who love there camp fires. A good site worth another visit.

Just returned from a 3 night break over August bank holiday weekend. Overall we had a good break and I would recommend this site to anyone looking to get away from the normal hustle and bustle of every day life.
The site itself is located in a quiet town called Llanuwchllyn and situated next door to a small railway station. The site is basic with 5 hard standing pitches for caravans, a large field for tents and caravans without electric hookup, and and an overspill field which I would recommend if you don't require electric hookup, as it is ideally situated right next to stream. The site has no shop, however, don't let this put you off as Bala itself is only 5 miles away. It is ideally suited as base to travel north wales.
Back to the site. The owners live at the house entering the site and Gareth and his team are very pleasant and were always happy to help. The site was clean in the respect that it did not have rubbish left lying around and bins were emptied daily. The only let down for me were the showers and toilets. The site was not fully booked over the holiday weekend but we found we had to queue to use the showers and toilets. 1 shower and 2 toilets for ladies, 1 shower and 1 toilet for men and 1 disabled shower / toilet room. These facilities were well equipped with toilet rolls and soap which made a nice extra touch. There was also a sink area with fridge for campers to use to do their washing up - again this appeared to have draining boards, washing up liquid supplied.
There were no footpaths in immediate area which meant if you went for a walk you had to walk on the roadside, which could be dangerous with small children. However, if you travel by car a short distance, walks could be found easily enough.
I could go on and tell you of the places to visit in north wales but I won't insult you, as many of us that have the Internet at home, have this info at their fingertips.
If like me you read this site to learn about the campsite, you should find this info useful. One tip though remember to take a torch for night time as there are no lights at night on the site and some of the roads are uneven to walk on, plus you need to be seen by the lazy sods that drive to the toilets! You are camping get out and walk!
My final word is that this site is very reasonably priced (we paid £16 for 2A, 2C, 1 awning, elec hookup = £48 for 3 nights - great value for money. We will return to both Bala and this site if not this year but next year, as it almost met all our basic needs and we will definitely take some family with us as it was a great set up for parties travelling together.
An extra tip for caravanners, hard standing plot 4 was the best as it was a corner plot and meant that you didn't have anyone too close to you.
Happy caravanning. And thank you to Bwch Yn Uchaf.

This is a lovely site with great views. We went with friends of ours who had camped at this site earlier in the year. We set up camp next to the river. It was very shallow and the children spent most of their time playing and paddling in it. The weather was okay and even though we had a couple of showers during our stay, we still found plenty to do. It is a great bonus to have the steam train on your doorstep. We all enjoyed a trip into Bala for lunch, without having to get in the car and drive there! The owner, like everyone says, is very friendly and helpful. He keeps the site very clean and in good repair. The toilets and shower facilities are very clean. We shall definitely come back here and stay for longer next time!

I stayed on this picturesque peaceful campsite last weekend & had a fantastic time. It now has immaculately kept newly built shower & toilet facilities, including disabled facilities, making it a perfect camping location. It is located near a narrow gauge railway station in Llanuwchllyn village which has an excellent pub serving good pub food.

Booked at short notice without a problem, met on arrival by owner, Very friendly and welcoming, paid on arrival (£58 for 3 tents, 5 people and 2 dogs for 3 nights with hook up) As we were a party of three tents owner gave us a plot all together in the back garden of one of his vacant rental cottages. This was fantastic as we had a driveway and a fenced in area for the dogs. The toilet facilities we used were connected to the cottage so didn't see the main block. There are plenty of pubs, restaurants, shops and takeaways in Bala, which is about 5 min drive Great location, very picturesque and only a few minutes drive from the watersports centre at Bala(try the rafting). There is a steam railway across the road and access to Bala lake nearby. Part way through our break, other people in our party staying in town had their accommodation fall through. One call to the owner and his wife drove back to us at 9pm at night to provide them with the keys to the cottage and a fabulous complementary chocolate cake! Couldn't ask for better service, would recommend the campsite or the cottages, had a great break and will stay again next year.

As this was our first family camping trip we were quite apprehensive, what with having 3 kids one of which was an 11 month baby and a dog. But as soon as we met the owner Gareth we knew this was the right site to stay at. We decided to camp on the overspill field as it was nearest the river with plenty of shelter and the most amazing views. Facilities at the site were excellent (electric hook-ups, deep freeze, fresh water points, 2 shower/toilet buildings & a portaloo) and spotlessly clean. During our stay they were adding the finishing touches to providing separate male & female facilities which can only improve the already excellent set-up. Each morning Gareth would go around the camp with Milly (his Labrador) to check on the campers and clear any rubbish left behind by them. We unfortunately did not sample the local attractions (Bala Lake railway/ Cafe & Eagles Pub) on this trip, but the local postmaster was most friendly & helpful. And being only a short journey (through beautiful countryside) away from Abermaw and Ruthun, day trips for the kids was always an option. An added bonus for flying enthusiasts is the flyovers of Hawks, Tornado's, Hercules & the occasional Typhoon warplanes which surprisingly did not intrude on the peacefulness of the camp. Another trip is already being planned as the kids & dog loved the campsite and area so much.

Well me and my friends did go back for a 2nd time, and what can I say even more tranquil than last time. We were very lucky last year when we went to this campsite with the weather as we had a mini heat wave, this year not so good on the weather front but still had a good time. Gareth the owner is very pleasant at all times, and ready to help with any problems you might have. The pub is a 5 minute walk down the road, which serves fantastic food, has a separate pool room and jukebox with good mix of old and new music, which of course me and friends loved. The actual campsite has 2 main fields, the nearer one with an electric hook up and next to the showers and toilet facilities. Which were kept spotless at all times, I cannot fault. The far field which me and friends stayed in, was peaceful next to a lovely little stream which we all had a bit of fun in, great for the kids. Gareth also didn't seem to mind us having campfires which many campsites obviously don't allow, but this kept us warm, and was nice to toast marsh-mellows on. The site is also right next to Bala lake railway, which we went on 1 day, and again is well worth the money. Bala is about just a 5 minute drive from the campsite, and is a lovely little town, with a lake that has all sorts of water sports and Bala itself has all the local shops you would need. Would recommend this campsite over and over. Many thanks to the owner.
