We had a really great time here. The site is quiet and beautiful, the owners are extremely helpful and friendly and the loos, showers and washing-up facilities are excellent, really clean with endless hot water. We had a gorgeous, spacious, flat pitch (you choose your own spot) and loved the setting, with the big stream/little river going past and sheep wondering around on the other side of it too. We hired a fire pit and bought sticks and logs from the site owners. We can recommend the local pub, for its food, drinks, small shop and friendly staff. The Bala lake train offers a great way to gently see the area and leaves from right by the site. We enjoyed gorge-walking near-by, booked at lake Bala. The only problem was Hurricane Bertha. But we still loved our visit and hope to return with calmer weather! Thanks!

Bwch Yn Uchaf is a really excellent campsite, it's a little more out of the way than some others in the area, but that is totally to it's credit.
We arrived after about a 6 hour drive up from London and originally pitched in the main field by the portaloos, but moved after a couple of days to be next to the beautiful stream that runs through the site. The people who run the campsite are absolute stars, they really can not do enough to help and to make sure you are happy with your stay. The toilets were always in immaculate condition and the same goes for the showers.
Be careful when doing your washing up, the hot water comes out extremely hot! But there is always plenty of hot water available.
Absolutely brilliant campsite, run by exactly the sort of people you would want to be running it. Can't fault it at all, will definitely be staying there again.

This was the first time we have visited this site after a last minute decision to go camping for the weekend straight from work. We had booked hookup but upon arriving, our friends were staying with non-hookup and where they were situated was just too beautiful to miss. The hookup area was mainly hard standing as the large field at the top was not in use.
I was concerned that the washing up area/showers were a bit out of the way but in actual fact it wasn't too bad and they were lovely and clean and hot water all the time. The portaloos that are in the middle were clean (possibly supplying some soap or antibacterial gel would be a good idea). I think it would be great if a more central shower block could be built.
We had a campfire on the second night and you can buy the logs and kindling on site and there is plenty to last two nights.
The river was lovely (just wish we'd taken the fishing net) and the little one had great fun making a dam.
There is a washer and dryer but as I didn't use them I don't know how much they were.
Unfortunately when it was time to leave the battery had died on the car (as well as someone else's) but it was no problem for the owners as ten minutes later they were there jump starting us.
Fantastic site, great owners. We will DEFINITELY be returning!

Just like to say easily the best campsite I have stayed on in many a year. The shower and toilet block was lovely and clean, the showers warm, lovely. The owners were more than helpful and friendly too. Campfires are allowed, the logs you buy are good value for money. , there is fishing in a gentle shallow clean river. The site is flat and just great. The views are fantastic and a short stroll to the start of the arran ridge walk. Cant wait to go back again. Also the little train in to the bustling little town of Bala is excellent. A good place for families, couples, and walkers. DOUGIE ELLIS WELSHPOOL

This was our 3rd visit and it is by far our favourite site. Gareth who runs it could not be more helpful. The site itself is lovely. Riverside flat field with a track (perfect for kids' bikes) running back to an always clean loo block. Facilities are a bit of a walk but there are portaloos along the way if you prefer and to me, location and atmosphere is so much more important!
Steam train rides from the site are a bonus and the pub in the village The Eagles Inn is reasonable and good pub grub and we were fine with lots of kids.
You can have a fire and Gareth or his son will bring you a pit and logs. There was no noise at night other than people chatting and enjoying themselves and I never felt we bothered anyone which is always a good feeling with so many children! (This visit there were 8 adults and 8 kids but I have also been as a family of 5 with an 8 week old baby)
I shall be back every year as it simply (so far) cannot be beaten for location, price, atmosphere and general good fun! We try new sites all the time but this one simply ticks all of our boxes.
I do however recommend rock pegs as ground can be tough!

We visited this site for 3 nights at the beginning of June. We were greeted by the very friendly owners who told us we could choose our own pitch wherever we wanted. At that point there was only 1 other tent and a caravan on the site so we had plenty of choice! We pitched our tent right next to the river which had a beautiful view across to the mountains, it was perfect. It was lovely to just have the trees behind us and the river, sheep, birds and mountains in front of us! On the other side of the campsite is the railway line which has a little steam train that goes into Bala. The trains only run 4 times a day and there is no noise to be concerned about. The station itself is lovely and has a little cafe inside as well. I also liked the fact you could have a campfire (unles you're on the hook up pitches) and we hired the firepit and bought 2 bags of wood for £11 from the owners. He brings it all to your pitch for you.
The main toilet block is at the site entrance so it was a 3 minute walk for us (there are portaloos for the people who are at the far end of the site). The facilities were perfectly clean all the time and even though there are only 2 showers for men and 2 for women (plus a disabled / family shower) neither of us ever queued once to use them. Water is hot all the time and the showers are free which is such a bonus. There are 2 plug sockets where you can use your own hairdryer (there isnt one there already). There's also a freezer for your ice blocks and 3 sinks for washing up. If you need to, there is a washing machine and dryer as well.
Bala town is lovely and only a 10/15 minute drive. There is a Co-Op and Spar for all your essentials but try to go to the local butchers / veg shops etc which sold lovely local produce. Bala lake is beautiful and the car park is very reasonably priced at £2 for 4 hours so you can have a long walk.
The local pub in the village serves amazing homemade food, I would highly recommend it. Its only a 15 minute walk from the campsite.
We were so lucky with the weather during our stay, it was hot and sunny all weekend which made our visit so much better but even without it, I think this site is just lovely. Highly recommended.

Amazing!
Welcome greeting straight away by a young lady, given choice of pitch and escorted round site to see what pitches were on offer.
Very laid back atmosphere.
Was initially concerned about the toilet/shower block only having 2 showers. However they were always very clean and I never had to queue the whole week. Showers had constant hot water :)
We pitched up next to river bank near 3 portaloos. Great pitch, great views.
Did get a bit annoying with people coming in and out of loos banging the door. And at times they were a bit too dirty to use, but this was due to the ill manners of other campers.
We has a lot of rain and was very cold for time of yr :(
I took 4 dogs which was not even a problem, quite often 2 maybe 3 is the limit on other sites, plenty of open space to walk them.
Went on the train to bala, very nice but quite expensive I thought.
Bala it's self has a coop and butchers, and quite a few other quaint shops.
Didn't fully explore the area directly off site as didn't take our map, and was not sure which route to take, downside for us were every footpath was through a field full of sheep/lambs which ment dogs had to remain on leads. Had we of asked the owners and staff about local walks I am sure they would have been very helpful.
Once again love the site, will definitely go back, hopefully in better weather conditions :)

We stayed here over the May Bank Holiday and we were right down the bottom of the site where the small stream meets the main river. There was a small group of us and the owners are quite happy to take private family groups. The owners are very friendly and relaxed. The pitches down the far end of the site are a fantastic spot and you can barely take your eyes of the view across the valley to the mountains opposite. We were fortunate enough to visit when there weren't many other campers so the site was quite quiet.
The facilities were very clean and tidy although they are a bit of a walk if you are down the far end of the site. But if you like it quiet, then it's worth going down the far end of the site and you'll just have to walk to the facilities. The small steam train from the site to Bala is very pleasant and relaxing. There is also a great walk up the mountains nearby.
The views from there over Bala lake are amazing. We booked to go to the Eagles Inn pub which is a 15 minute walk up the road and worth a visit. There are no playground facilities but to be honest, the kids didn't miss them. However, what was disappointing was the amount of restrictions the Snowdonia authorities appear to have imposed on this campsite. Camping is about freedom, relaxation and switching off, and campsites nor campers should be ruled by local authority bureaucracy. The Snowdonian authorities need to reconsider their restrictions. That said, overall, a great campsite if you want to switch off from it all.

This was our first holiday in our Mazda Bongo Campervan. Really relaxing site with clean facilities, lovely friendly owners.
Situated next to stream with Railway on other side which runs straight into Bala town around outskirts of Bala lake. Pub with in walking distance which serves good pub food.
Thoroughly enjoyed by all including our dog Max.
Well worth a visit for a peaceful break.

A decent site with hardstandings near to the river
With a nice walk to the river where we saw a kingfisher, however when we there the other fields were closed off, nice views of the mountains and the steam railway, toilet facilities were very clean and nice hot water, however I think the price is a bit steep for how big the site is, just big enough for 5 units, we like it quiet and it was that. Good for a few days but not 8 days like we were there, also the bins were overflowing
