We've just come back from a weekend visiting the WW1 sites in the area. Great little campsite, clean with excellent facilities. Ideal for a short break in this area. Only 10 minutes walk from the centre of Ypres. Would thoroughly recommend. Only issue was that the Sat Nav couldn't quite find the site, so we ended up towing a rather large 7m caravan through the middle of Ypres down narrow cobbled streets!

What a great little site, staying for 4 nights as a little break from work. Clean facilities, cheap, free wi-fi (limited signal so sit at the picnic area and hope it doesn't rain) - about 15 mins walk to Ypres. €7.50 for one person + €3 per extra adult per night.
Ideal as a stopover for a longer trip or an easy from Calais/Dunkerque weekend break. Last Post sounded at the Menin Gate at 8pm - very powerful.

October 2008 was the second time we visited this site. I am a adult instructor with the Air Cadets and we visited Ypres again with roughly 30 cadets and 20 staff. Due to the time of year the site was reasonably quite. The staff allow us to book and pitch 6 ten man tents and a large marquee on the caravan pitches which in turn allows us to use the electric hook up. The toilet block is very well kept, always clean and tidy with plenty of hot water and centrally heated which can be useful to warm the cadets in, (it has been quite frosty at the end of October). A five minute steady walk and your smack bang in the middle of Ypres or standing at Menin Gate. If you have never seen the parade at the gate it is well worth a visit and quite touching. Ypres itself is a pleasant place to visit and the people very friendly. If like us your intention is to visit war memorial sites or battle fields I would recommend this site and hope fully we will be returning in the near future.

We stayed a few nights at this site during a stopover on route back home via the Amsterdam Newcastle ferry.
The weather was fine until the very last tent peg went in, and then the heavens opened up torrential rain all night and thunder too. It certainly gave us a WW1 battlefield feel inside the tent that night. The following morning it had stopped, the ground was a bit soggy with no waterlogged pitches or duck ponds on the site. So the drainage was good in the tent area. Pegs were very easy to push and and the tent area was quite well sheltered from the wind. Still have to pay the 25euro deposit for an access card to get in and out of the place and showers. The site was very friendly, had warm clean showers and toilets. No need to book, just turn up and find an area on the grass. Motor homes and caravans had a hard standing area with all services. The tent area had no marked out pitches just a grassy area. The site is a great base as a stopover to visiting Ypres, the town is within easy walking distance. It was most useful for our Lad as he is studying, the WW1 battlefields etc at school for his lowers.
The Flanders cloth museum and bunker hill 57 with the genuine trenches were only minutes drive away. Well pleased with this site so very handy and cheap too, it is basic but that is what we wanted. The Mennin Gate at 8:00pm each night is certainly worthwhile going too. Paying your respects to the fallen soldiers in the WW wars: do look at all the names and listen to the bugalers, may need to take a tissue.

My partner and I stayed at this campsite when visiting Belgium and France. A peaceful site in beautiful surroundings, we stayed for one night to visit the town of Ypres and were extremely impressed by what we found, considering the bargain prices.
Although the height of summer, the site was quiet with only a handful of other campers and there were no problems with noise etc.
The chap at reception was very pleasant and advised us of the best time to visit the town to witness the very moving performance of the 'Last Post' at the Menin Gate. There are some great little bars and restaurants in town and all this only a short walk from the campsite.
The facilities at the site were very clean and had electric points for hairdryers, etc.
Overall a very pleasant stay and we would definitely visit again in the future.

Stayed here last year also. Its a fab site and I would reccomend to tents/tourers.caravans ect. No electric for tents though. Its really cheap [ we paid 15 E for 2 nights camping for 2 people. Showers are free although you need to give a 25 E deposit for the gate/toilet key. Its within 10 mins of Ypes town centre, great for the menin gate event each night at 8pm. Its always been busy when we go [june] mainly with english tourists, I would imagine gets busy in main season. its not that well sign posted look for the yellow camping signs as you enter Ypres from E17.

Well this is THE place if you want a cheap, quiet campsite near to Ypres town centre. We visited during June 2006 and had an excellent time. The site is a municipal one and only has a shower/toilet block. These were clean and well stocked with loo roll etc. The showers were hot and free (no coins req) The site itself is small with an area for Tenters a small area that holds about ten touring vans and similar for MH users. We booked our place via the internet/e-mail thingy without any horrors. The camp is a steady twenty minutes walk from the Menin gate and the town centre itself is just beyond that. If you have never considered Ypres for a stay over or short break then PLEASE do visit. Bear in mind as you look around at all the wonderful buildings that everything (and I mean everything) was re-built after WW1. Visit the Cloth Hall and Flanders Fields museum to get just a taste of what happened here. Then at 8pm (any night of the week) go to the Menin gate and try and stop that lump in your throat as the Firemen play the last post. My simple test of any campsite is this . Would you take your parents or your best mates there. If the answer is YES then that's a good place to visit. Ypres is a very big YES.
