What fantastic people! What a gorgeous place. Stayed for 5 days loved it so much booked for a month in august, A very basic site . Toilet block adequate but clean. Shower , just the one in the ladies but did the job.Toilets were fine only problem was some of the people were not considerate. But the staff did their best to stay on top of this. Pub great food amazing( and I am a chef) If you want butlins type facilities then go there. BRILL!can't wait to go back

Just returned from a long weekend at this site. It seemed better to us than the reviews suggested. The portacabins were adequate and clean although the shower very small. We had a hardstanding pitch with grass for the awning and the pitch was a reasonable size. There are no markings for the tent pitches which does lead to it being a bit haphazard. The views are truly superb and the canal right next door. We ate in the pub one night, the food was reasonably priced and a nice restaurant but not the best I've ever had. For the price we paid the campsite was fine, more a weekend than a week though.

This is a really lovely site not many facilities apart from toilets and a shower but that is what we prefer rather than large commercial sites. We came at short notice for one night as we live not too far away. The owners are very friendly, beautiful views of two castles and the canal, believe the food is good.
Liked the rule re leaving the car in the pub car park, we have small children and this made the site very safe, however not all caravanners did adhere to this.
Visited both castles, Beeston is ruins but Peckforton a hotel now but very beautiful. Do not like to visit the same site twice but may change our mind with this one.

This site is in a great location as everyone has mentioned and the pub is fine, however the camping leaves a lot to be desired!
The new toilet block had no lights or hot water and I didn't even attempt the shower at 50p for 3 minutes.
The field itself looks like a cabbage patch and there is no consideration of where people could pitch resulting in an overcrowded site.
There was noise into the early hours on the site from rowdy campers which drives you mad when you have young kids you are trying to get to sleep.
Overall, the location is great, the price was cheap but they need to seriously sort out the facilities.

Brill location, brill veiws. Last Friday of the month is folkish night in the pub / restaurant take your own instrument, while we were there I counted 2 violins, 2 accordions, percussionists. 4 guitars. 1 mandolin. 5 singers. Food in restuarant very good. Staff helpful, new mobile toilets not yet up and running but you can use the pubs, hard stands not level. No lighting on field site but electrics all ok, elsan near entrance gate with no screening next to mains drinking water.! £12 per nt. With elec; bitter £2.60 per pint. The new management are improving the site all the time. Only 9 hard standings. Don't like the idea you have to put your car in the pubs car park all the time.
Despite are moans we want to go back very soon, cos its worth it. So not that bad is it ! Whoops wont be able to get on now! Beeston casle £5.00 to get in.

Stayed here for a weekend and it was free camping we paid £2.00 for electric per night and we had a hard standing for our folding camper. What a bargain we are going back again for valentines weekend, when it is free again just pay for your leccy.
We have booked a meal in the pub , which is very nice. Staff are very pleasant there is a dining area and also a lounge if you just want a drink. Campsite facilities are limited to a room with a shower toilet and sink which you pay £5.00 deposit for the key. You can use the pub loos when its open. There are about 9 hard standing pitches and an area in the middle of the field for tents. I would imagine in summer this place will be blooming lovely because you have got a beer garden alongside the canal. The owners do like you to leave your car on the carpark when you have unpacked so as not to keep churning the grass up.
We arrived in the dark and we missed the turning for the pub so just followed the road right around to the other side and it was a bit hair raising because there are a couple of narrow bridges with weight restrictions on them so be warned the road that you turn into for the pub has got a red post box on the corner. DONT miss it

We only stayed at this site for one night to road / field test our Trailer tent. So glad we found it, not too big and lovely location, close to Beeston castle. The facilities definitely need to be sorted, there was only the pub toilet / shower available (outside of the pub) which could do with a bit of bleach and a scrubbing brush. But hey, camping for one night, who's bothered. Would like to think there will be a couple more toilets / showers eventually but it's not a problem. Pub owners very hospitable, food excellent. Nice to have a pub on site, canal and views. Will definitely be going back and for a long weekend. Rates reasonable and great to have hook up on site. Makes it all the more comfortable for us campers.

We stayed here during the Bank Holiday weekend, as it was the only place that had pitches available over the weekend at a few days notice.
The site is located on the grounds of the Shady Oak pub in the picturesque town of Beeston, Cheshire with excellent view from the pub or campsite of Beeston castle, in fact after setting up the tent I noticed the view and was took back by its beauty.
There are caravan/motor home pitches around the edge of the site with tent pitches in the middle, electric is available to both classes.
The ground is good stiff clay type soil, which held the pegging very well in the wet weather, but also drained very well, the field is slightly on the lumpy side with slight slope, but did not present any problems.
The toilet block is located on the field, it consists of two porta-toilets, which have manual pump to flush, unfortunately during our stay people neglected to flush them and as there is no water trap in the toilets, waste sits on a tray waiting for the someone to actuate the pump.
During day two, I noticed why people didn’t flush them, as the handle is located next to the seat and was regularly covered in urine.
Water is provided via a standpipe next to the toilets, this is the only place to wash after using the toilets, as they have no internal washing facilities.
There is an old toilet surrounded by 2-3 foot wall on three sides, which is for wastewater.
The shower room is located next to the entrance of the pub. A £5 deposit is payable for a key to use them. It consists of a small room with shower, toilet and sink, the conditions of which where rather shabby and good deal of mould and dirt covered the titled walls and floor and even shower, rather strong musty smell also.
The pub serves excellent food and varied amount of beverages; the staff are helpful and friendly with great service.
The pub is located next to a canal which fishing is allowed, although there are also moored barges along the stretch of the pub, space is limited.
The nearest shop I could find was a petrol station around 1.7 miles away and the nearest town is around 7 miles away, that I could find with GPS and driving around, so there very well could be more local facilities, I just couldn’t find them and had to visit the town twice for supplies.
During the weekend the pub can get slightly noisy as they have live entertainment at nights, so if an early is night is wanted take the ear plugs until the pub closes and everyone is in bed, if not its a nice, relaxed atmosphere at the night time.
Pros:
Excellent views
Rural Location
Not to large
Canal for Fishing
Pub serves excellent food
Bouncy castle
Cons:-
Toilets always dirty and un-flushed
No local shopping facilities
Shower room unhygienic
Lumpy pitches for tents

We stayed on this site over the weekend and the location next to the canal, overlooking Beeston Castle is fantastic. We paid £6 per night for the five of us which is very reasonable. The owners who run the pub are very friendly and the food in the pub is fantastic with childrens meals available. There are cask ales as well as the usual bitters / lagers. They put up a bouncy castle for the children which was free to use and my children had many hours of fun over the four days bouncing away come rain or shine. The camp site has a slight slope but if you are very lucky, the very top of the field is flat. Electricity points have just been installed so there are still marks in the grass where they had to dig up, but these will soon grow over. There are two water points on the field which are easily accessible. This campsite has only just opened this year and the owners admitted they are still getting it right. There are no bins on the field, you have to walk down to the pub and use their kitchen bins and the toilet facilities is one small room with a loo, sink and a rather grubby shower in it. You get a key when you book in and pay a deposit for it, but if someone is in there, you do have to wait (unless the pub is open). We had a great time and would definitely go back to this site for another weekend away.
