Due to mega traffic jams it was dark by the time we arrived. And I mean pitch black, there is no lighting at all on the site. We were told to pick any vacant pitch. The pitches were all round the edge of a field but with it being dark we couldn't see the state of the ground and promptly got stuck. Luckily there were some Good Samaritans on site who turned out to push&pull us out of the mud and our grateful thanks go out to them. By the time we had done all this we got to the pub only to be told they had just stopped serving food !
In daylight the site looked a little better, but its just a field at the back of a pub which is by a canal. To be fair it's a nice setting but its a very basic site with a portable cabin for the toilets and shower. There is one water tap (which we couldn't find in the dark ). There looked to be a decent park for the children
The site served its purpose as a one night stop over but we wouldn't want to stop more than that. Suppose you get what you pay for £13 with elec.

I just love it here, warm, welcome and very inviting owners. Set in a beautiful location by the canal.
The pub food is excellent in particular the fabulous full English breakfast available.
There is also a small play area for children in addition to the friendly on site chickens.
The guests and visitors to the site were also really helpful and friendly. I felt so welcome that I've just booked my second visit :)
Work is being carried out to the toilets but we were made aware of this prior to our arrival and it was no issue for us at all.
Child friendly, my son loved it. We didn't get out and about much as we were relaxing but we will do next time!
The site was also lovely and clean.

Our family of two adults & three kids (6, 4 and 1. 5 year old) camped there for two nights without any hassle. To summarise the stay, we would and are considering going back.
We got a pitch easily enough, we phoned the number above and reserved a pitch over the phone, then paid £10 a night (Cash, no cards. Not sure where the nearest cashpoint is so be warned!) I was offered a hookup for an extra £3 a night but didn't need it. It is a bit out of the way, but that made for a more 'camping in the middle of no-where' feel to our experience. Get that satnav working!
The description written for this site is very accurate. It is basically a field, which has a toilet block and a couple of sinks, next to the pub. I do not write that as a bad thing, it is what it is. The grass was long enough to be comfortable, the toilets and sink area were adequate enough for our 'needs' and we did not use the showers during our stay (don't judge. ) There was a note saying that the showers were 50p and a token could be obtained from the pub.
We did not use the pub facilities, as we already had busy days planned - visiting the local Beeston Castle (5 mins drive) and the ice cream farm (15 mins drive) - but the staff seemed friendly enough when I was in there and the menu seemed fairly typically 'pub-like'; a good selection, including steak pie! Will definitely plan to eat in the pub on our next visit.
The site seemed to be very family-friendly. There was a small play park (which we didn't get the chance to visit, big plans) and pub seemed to welcome kids in. Some of the longer-staying residents were friendly and spoke to our kids. There was a mix of vans & tents and the field was quite large so it was easy enough to pitch away from others.
Also. There were chickens! They were roaming free in the field and tried to help themselves to our breakfast. The kids loved them, once they got use to them but the chickens managed to sneak round the back of the tent a few times and suddenly 'cluck' right behind you! I imagine you could buy fresh eggs but we did not get around to asking.
Since this is a review, it is fair to note that there is a railway line about a mile away and the trains can be heard every half-hour or so until quite late in the night. They didn't bother me much but it is only fair to note it. The site is also right next to a b-class road so cars could be heard driving past very occasionally. Again, it didn't bother me but might annoy a light sleeper.
As I didn't visit the pub, I didn't see or speak with the owners. The whole process was very easy, with very little form-filling or a big list of 'dos and don'ts'- there were some, don't worry!
In summary, a good place to stay and I would recommend it, even with kids!

We booked this site late and had no problem getting on, which surprised me as when we got there on Friday it was really busy, caravans, trailer tents and tents,
What a great find, a beautiful site right next to the canal with a fantastic traditional pub, what more can you ask for.
Ate there Friday and Sunday and the food was superb, felt like I was back at my Mums for my diner.
Chris & Annette are so lovely they make you so welcome as do all the staff.
Turned out some of the campers were a bit noisy and rowdy, but Chris & Annette dealt with it swiftly, professionally stopping the problem straight away, leaving us to have a fabulous weekend away and we cant wait to go back.

Been here over the weekend and we really enjoyed ourselves, yes there is still a long way for the new owners to go but with the dedication they have to succeed through talking to the landlady I think this pub and site could be good.
If you are looking for basic essentials then this is the place to go. Tried the food and it came piping hot and plenty of it.
There is plenty of places to visit round here which could easily keep you busy for a week or two.
I think once they have got rid of the debt that the previous owners left them with then a card payment and a local landline will be available, but like everything in this world everyone deserves a good.

Have just returned from a lovely stay at Shady Oak.
We stayed for 4 days (the weather was glorious!)
The pub is a super country pub, food good, prices reasonable. Fab garden to sit and watch the canal boats go by, very relaxing.
Plenty of walks, to Castles or Sandstone trail and of course the canal tow path.
Short drive to Tarporley for shopping, cash point, petrol etc.
Portable cabin toilet block, 2 loos and 1shower in each. 50p tokens for shower. Basic, but very clean and plenty of loo roll. Shower good, lots of space for hanging and room to get dressed without getting all your stuff wet!
Previous reviews have complained about showers being cold. I have discovered that the water pressure drops sometimes, on discussing this with the owner, occasional low water pressure is a problem in the whole area. To ensure a powerful hot shower, I just turned the tap on before using the shower to check the pressure was up.
The token lasts for 3mins, fine for me, but if you have long hair, or are taking a little one in with you, you may need 2 tokens.
Room for improvement - Cover over pot wash area for tenters. No problem for me in caravan.
No hand dryers in loo, I used toilet roll to dry my hands, paper towels would be good.
Nothing more from my point of view, I like sites like this, if you want loads of heated facilities and entertainment for the kids, this is not the site for you.
I had 4 boys with me, aged between 11 and 13. As the weather was so warm, we didn't walk as much as I would have liked. Kids entertained themselves at the kids playground (next to pub beer garden) or having water fights with their water pistols, and football, once it had cooled down in the evening.
BBQs allowed off the ground and dogs very welcome providing they are kept on a lead and cleaned up after.
Site was very quiet at night.
What else can I say, £10 pn + £3 for EHU. Bargain, a good sleep, plenty to eat, lots to see
A loo and a hot shower, What else do you need!
Will definitely be returning, I just hope Netty and Chris don't make lots of expensive improvements pushing the prices up too much. Ive stayed on expensive sites, but cant warrant paying an additional £20 per night not to queue for a shower!
Thanks for a lovely stay guys, see you soon!
Oh, one more thing, cash only, I got caught out trying to pay for my stay by card and had to drive to Tarporley to cash point!

We stayed here for a weekend.
The toilet block / shower is a portable cabin, but more than adequate with plenty of shelving for bathroom bags at the sink and in the shower changing area. Cleaned daily and never short on toilet roll.
The pub itself is friendly and very reasonable prices for food and a good portion which saved us from cooking in the tent. Its in an enviable spot overlooking the canal which was alive with boats.
The camping area is a large field with lovely views of beeston castle.
Tarporley village was only 10 mins in the car for any supplies - and a lovely village to have a walk around.
Will definitely be back soon

The site is basic but has everything you need for a few nights away lovely location with beautiful surroundings.
Children's play area to keep the kids entertained as well as feeding the ducks on the canal.
Pub food is fantastic value for money.
Will be visiting this site again very soon.

We came to this site 12th June for three day's it is a Excellent site with friendly and helpful owners. All the staff were helpful and welcoming. Food was great and really good value. I did really enjoy the food proper home cooked which we had.
The site is basic as the owners Annette and Chris have only just took it over, and they are in the proses of revamping all the facilities the wash area two portable cabins are very clean, and re doing the hard service area.
The large camping field is located next to the pub but with the large car park in-between so quite safe for little ones.
The site and pub is located alongside the canal and its so relaxing watching all the canal boats passing or pulling over to moor, and great views of Beaston castle
They have a children's play area and lots of picnic benches overlooking the canal.
There are lovely long walk's around Beaston castle and I was told there was a lot to see but to be honest I enjoyed the three day's relaxing
Even the rain did not spoil the time we were there the ducks that came onto the site.
We had an excellent time and will definitely be going back.

We stayed at this site for a long weekend. You can see the owners are new, the grass was long and left on top when cut, so it came in your van on the bottom of shoes. There are some hard standing pitches but the site is very run down. The toilet block is a portable cabin, there are 2 toilets and one shower, we got 3 minutes for 50p of cold water
The pub is nice with open fires and friendly staff and dogs welcome, which is a pleasant change. There is also a nice walk along the towpath
The owners have a lot of work to do in order to bring the site up to the standards of most other sites and I wish them good luck
