We stayed hear last September . . . It was wet . . . REALLY wet!
We had a 4x4 so managed to get into the upper field just fine and watched as many tried a failed to get their cars through the muddy field.
It got so wet that the guys running the site closed off the field and wouldn't let anyone else in, good for us as we had loads of space!
Anyway, what a fantastic location, truly stunning. All the mud, rain and general squelchyness faded away when we strolled up the mountains admiring the view.
Very well run site, the guys were very friendly, helpful and pleasant. Facilities were plentiful and clean enough. Never had trouble getting a shower, even though getting the showers was such a hazard though the boggy field!
On a sunny day it must be truly incredible.
Its a fair way out and a difficult turn in off of the main road, but well worth the journey.
Highly recommended.

It is a very beautiful site, very well located for walks to Snowdonia, and wonderful to hear the wind rolling across the valleys and the lake. Facilities fine, very 'green' site for recycling. The young staff were just lovely, kind and sweet as I must have seemed a bit hapless once my tent collapsed. I would recommend this site for hardy campers / walkers in late season for the great walks and sights (and it was very quiet), and for families in better weather for the sheer location plus kayaking must be fun in the summer. Would love to go back as a family in the summer. Great value I thought at only £6 per person, firewood extra but plenty to get a good fire going for £4, keep the fire pits a good distance from your tent as the wind carries sparks a good way.
If you go, keep an eye on the weather as this is quite a boggy site, all around the loos and the wash up area was very muddy and wet so wellies a must.

Just visited this campsite for the weekend and was pleasantly surprised
Location was beautiful, peaceful and views fantastic.
Our spot was right next to the lake- we were told to just drive around and find a pitch that we liked.
Warden met us as we arrived and said that we could come back at 6pm to buy firewood to use in the fire grates if we wished. £4-00 for a good sized bag that lasted from 6.30-9.30 which suited us fine.
The site had varied mix of campers this weekend.
Unfortunately we were unable to hire boats to go on the lake - it is out of season now so we could forgive them for this. We will definitely be having a go next time.
Shower block was basic and clean for time of year considering the amount of wet grass around- would suggest wearing flip flops to improve experience of the cold floor- plenty of warm water available and all free.
Ladies toilets kept clean and plenty of soap / paper towels / loo paper etc although basic.
Recycling is essential and adequate bins available.
Stayed on site till 3pm however we were told we could stay till 6pm without having to pay extra
Had a nice relaxing break and will definitely come back

What a stunning location but we arrived in terrible weather, rain lashing down ,wind howling and the site was a muddy bog. As a large group of experienced campers we managed to get our tents up and helped others but a lot just gave up and went home. I am used to roughing it but the toilets were disgusting and not just muddy,in the ladies there were used sanitary towels etc in open bins YUK ! This was a shame because it is a beautiful place

We stayed for one night at this site. Staff are very friendly and helpful, take your midge spray for this site we stayed on a still night and got eaten alive, fireboxes are a must to keep them at bay so grab some wood off the wardens. Be prepared on this site as there are no shop or pubs within easy reach. The site is nice and secluded. This is more of a walkers/campers site as there are no hookups or hard standings. Toilet block is big and basic. Weather was too bad for us to explore the lake and paths on the saturday but they look a must if the weather is good !

We visited Llyn Gwynant with a group of friends with people arriving and leaving through the week, this didn't bother the wardens who only came once to check our tickets, otherwise they just remembered who they were and they were wonderfully helpful and friendly. I would say the staff are this sites best feature, so much so that we gave them a box of chocolates to thank them.
The toilet block is basic but well supplied with plenty of toilets, showers and basins. The showers are lovely and warm, exactly what you want after a day in the mountains with water getting in all your clothes and the wind making you cold. There was also a washing up area which was covered but not inside, but it was fairly warm so this didn't bother us at all.
Some of the fields were a bit waterlogged, but the field we were in, which we had to ourselves for most of the week, was fine. The site is firmly committed to recycling and even has it as a requirement for staying at the site, which I thought was nice.
In peak season (school holiday time) you can hire kayaks and canoes, unfortunately we missed out on this by one week and had been looking forward to it.
The entrance is easy to miss as it's a sharp right hand bend that doesn't seem to be signposted after a left hand bend on the road coming from the north. If you're driving from nant gwynant and driving north you shouldn't have any difficulty in a car, I wouldn't like to think about how a caravan might get in.
All in all it's a fairly normal and sufficiently well equipped campsite but with marvellous staff.

This is a peaceful campsite at the base of the Snowdon range.
There are no marked pitches just a case of pick an area and drag a firepit over to it. Plenty of firepits to go around.
There were three fields, one for tents only. One for all and one which did not allow cars on.
Unfortunately we did suffer rain all week and although the site is fairly flat some parts did puddle. There were warnings in place not to pitch too close to the river during periods of heavy rain.
The wardens were always on hand to answer any queries or to offer help. Freindly bunch.
Toilets and showers were basic but clean, best showers were around the back of the toilet block.
We made good use of the boat hire, being able to go up the river or down into the lake. Single kayak £4 per hour.
There are several paths leading from the site which take you up to Snowdon, good walking shoes a must.

This site is in a beautiful location and has good facilities. The toilets and showers are very clean and the boat hire is very reasonable.
Pitches are not marked out so choosing a spot isn't easy but conversely you can take up as much space as you like.
On the weekend we were there there were a lot of boggy patches following recent heavy rain and it was very very windy.
The fireboxes are great, there are so few sites that actively encourage campfires these days and the logs are reasonable at £4 a bag.
Would return on a calmer weekend!

Great site. Wonderful location, stunning views from our tent. Beautiful walks without having to drive anywhere.
Took a short drive to pen-y-pass and walked half way up snowdon, not bad seeing as we had a 7 year old with us who hates walking! Watch out for the cafe there - I thought it was very expensive
Close to beddgelert which we enjoyed - fantastic ice cream shop there!
My husband and children all had a go in a kayak, hired on site, they loved it! really reasonable & friendly guy who sorted it out.
Facilities were great, simple, but clean. Birds nesting in toilet block delighted my daughter.
Staff really helpful and friendly, couldn't fault them. Everyday they were picking up any stray rubbish & cleaning.
Camp fires a real bonus (even in the rain!)
Downsides:
Midges were a pain, make sure you take insect repellent.
Fields did have a tendency to become waterlogged in places (ducks loved swimming in the puddles) I would take wellies if we went again. (just in case!)
Would definitely go back. Peaceful & relaxing site.

I love this campsite. It is a personal favourite. I have been before and am going again this weekend with a few friends. It is in a stunning location on the side of Snowdon. There is a massive lake that you can paddle round with the cheap canoes available at the site and you are slap bang in the middle of the Snowdonia National Park.
One of the things I love most is the fire pits they give you, It is so rare these days that you are allowed to enjoy a camp-fire anywhere that it is a joy to be positively encouraged to do so. And one of the things I most look out for in a campsite these days. There is nothing better than finishing a hard days climbing by getting a brew on the go and sitting round a fire setting the world to rights.
What more can you say an awesome place to pitch a tent.
