Hi all I am new to this camping and review lark but here goes. Excellent camp site. Staff very friendly, and work hard to keep place clean. They do have a total ban on audio equipment. If there are groups making noise late on, and your still up they ask you if its disturbing you. They will act very politely and fairly. As i have experienced on both sides of this issue. Scenery brill, your mobile will not work so save the battery until you get to one of the towns, kids enjoyed it, wife enjoyed it, and I am chilled as a penguins cold bits after our visit, just what the Dr ordered. BAD BITS. it is safer to turn right out of the site then turn round in the lay by opposite the lake (as they tell you on their web site) don't try left turn out fully loaded in normal family car risk of grounding. Also bad turn just before, you can not see oncoming cars they can not see you. This is by no way the fault of the site just the way it is. Was a lot of gnats / midges what ever you want to call them, so get a good fire going. OVER VIEW. As quiet and chilled as you want it to be, hot showers, and good camp fire opportunity's. They do not allow your own timber, theirs is a bit pricey at £4 a bundle but at least you have a proper fire and that's what I enjoy about camping. We have visited twice over two long weekends. Canadian canoes that fit family of 4 in £10 per hour, well worth it as if it was any longer I wouldn't be able to move. Could do with adult tarzan swings well as kids one. Quote from my daughter "you need to come on this more often, but if anyone comes your not with me OK" good job I had just been to the loo.

First time here arriving the Tuesday after the bank holiday weekend, so hopefully missing the masses. Location is superb and facilities were fine. OK, so there were a few spiders webs in the roof beams. No different to the corners in my house! I had no problem with the toilets showers and loos as all were very clean. Wood now charged at £4 per bag and whilst all the notices say you can't take your own, nobody checked (and yes, I did buy mine from the site.) However, it was freezing on Tuesday night and blowing a gale, and two bags of wood went nowhere. The price starts totting up if you have to buy wood every night. Plenty of space to camp and the nearest tent was about 30 yards away. Now the good bits. The location, friendly staff, and the canoes/ boats for hire, and no midges. The bad bits. The weather. Tuesday was really sunny but the wind that whistled through the valley made it really cold, the rain on Wednesday and Thursday Finally, we walked to the cafe at Nant Gwynant. Cost £8.20 for me and my boy. Quite dear for what we actually got. Other than that, I would definitely go back

Fabulous setting, smack bang in the heart of the National Park and next to a lake. A short hop to Pen-y-Pass, and it's possible also to hire canoes for fun-on-the-lake. Pretty basic site, but cheap as can be. Great fun to be had with wood fires in the evenings. Pretty busy during peak season, though - putting some pressure on loo and shower facilities!

This is a beautiful site regardless of the weather and has fantastic access to challenging and picturesque walks. We paid 14 GBP per night for 2 people with a tent and a car plus 3 quid for a bag of wood. This is fairly expensive in my experience but it is school holidays and a premier location. The site was very friendly and relaxed but I felt that for the price the bathing facilities needed significant improvement. Although the toilet block seemed to be cleaned and regularly restocked with paper, the showers did not appear to cleaned in the four days we were there if the clumps of hair, old plasters and other nasties languishing on the floor on the unisex cubicles were anything to go by. In addition, a couple of the showers simply dribbled water down a pipe. Luckily in this part of the country you are never far from a refreshing downpour so enjoy the spectacular scenery and keep an eye of the weather forecast in you fancy a shower with power.

Arrived fri 11th and left late on sunday, Firstly I'd like to say that the campsite is fab. I have stopped at many sites but this one has just what I need. The fact you can camp where you want to is good, (as long as you get there before 6ish because it fills up, but not over crowded). Saying that make sure you grab what space you want to avoid feeling trapped especially in the popular parts by the lake and river. You can have campfires which is a must - if your camping, you need a fire. You will have to buy the wood from them (not a cash grab but they are trying to maintain the area) on that note – recycle bins on location, so sort your rubbish out, all those beer cans in one bag makes you realise you have got a problem. Canoe hire, the canoe bloke knows his stuff and will let you know if its unsafe to go out on the lake due to weather but don’t let that put you off the river is a nice place to splash around in and is crystal clear. You can walk up Snowdon from the site… we did, if you look an os map of the area the path loops around so you don’t have to walk up and down the same route and you get some beautiful views. However be prepared my group of 4 young blokes took 9 hours to do this, with frequent coffee breaks and a dinner stop, but well worth the effort. We had no problems with the midges, saying that we were covered by smoked out clothes. The dogs on the site were no bother like some one has said earlier, but you always get one annoying one (and that was mine!) Washing facilities, Plenty, I think some people go camping and expect to have there own shower – sorry you share so some queuing might occur. Electric shaver points for those who can’t go with out electricity. Its great, the only let down was the weather it really lashed it down both nights but you cant come back from Wales with a tan or else your boss will never believe you were sick on Friday (what ? I had to get there early to get a spot!) Go and enjoy that’s the main thing

Stayed here for just over a week. Midweek the camp is delightful but it does get very busy (and quite noisy) at weekends. Contrary to some earlier posts on this board there are now seven (1 male, 1 female, 5 unisex) showers and 4 sinks but there were still some queues at weekends.

We've been to this site twice. It's gorgeous and the "one shower" thing is hardly an issue. It's clean and is a spacious one! It's in a stunning location (not the shower!) and the camp fires are ace. There's lots of room too. We had a few midges the first time we went but nothing too bad. The second time, we had none. You can walk up to the Pen y Grwyd hotel on the Llanberis Pass by heading out towards the drive of the site and then taking a left along the lane which takes about 45 mins. Beware dogs at the farm though- they were a bit troublesome to us but we told the farmer and he was very apologetic so sure it wouldn't happen again. You can walk up Snowdon from this site and Beddgelert and Llanberis are both nearby. Have fun!

I visited the site twice this year and would highly recommend it to anyone. To camp up by the river you must try and get there early on the Friday,as this the most popular place to pitch obviously. My two lads 12 and 6 spent the whole weekend messing about in the river. Perfect!

Beautiful setting and well placed for walking in the area. A chill September breeze whipping across Llyn Gwynant meant midges weren't an issue! The limited facilities - toilet block with one shower, washing up facilities with one sink - are clean and functional and its good to have the mountain weather posted in the toilets in the morning. Nevertheless, £6 for a solo camper to spend one night seems a little steep. The clearly displayed rules with regard to no radios were openly ignored by one group but the site was quiet - apart from the odd owl - after 11pm on this moonlit Sunday night. There were probably about 6-8 pitches right across the site, so plenty of room. The recycling policy is good to see but the normal refuse bins were overflowing and there was only one soap dispenser in the toilets with hand-soap.

August 2005 This site offers a superb location with stunning views of the valley and lake. We found the site to be well managed but lacking in facilities. The ladies and gents have a single shower cubical each and a queue of at least half an hour for a shower should be expected. Power failed on our last night and there was no hot water in the morning.
We struggled with access to the site with our fairly low sports car. The car grounded severely on several parts of the access track and much of the site was completely inaccessible to us by car.
There is no electricity for shavers or hairdryers.
