August 2003 I took my 8 year old son to introduce him to mountain walking, and as the other submissions said, it's hard to think of a more beautiful position for a campsite. But I thought it was expensive for what it was, the camping rate was £5, but then we had to pay for logs for the campfire (£3 per bag), hire of the firebox (£1 per night) and £1 per night for having a car! Add that to having to pay a fortune for the mozzy spray.... (yes they were a real problem).
There was a group of lads staying there who were causing real problems for other people, staying up late singing & shouting & playing football in the dark, breaking branches off trees for firewood, and generally causing mayhem, and the "parky" only did something when people started complaining. The grass was also very long so stayed damp for a long while...
That said, we did have a great time, and because we only used the site as a base for walking it didn't impact on our enjoyment too much.
Just so you know, my son was like a mountain goat and left me behind on the Pyg track & Miner's routes, and has asked to go to Scotland next year to do some "proper" mountains!!!!!

14 - 16th July 2003 Stunning place. Worth visiting for the fabulous scenery and lovely magical atmosphere. Makes a great base for walking and hiking. The Snowdon Mountain Railway is only 15 mins drive away.
We were basically left to get on with it. Facilities were clean but basic. Make sure you have all your supplies, as there are no shops for quite a distance. The nearest villages are Beddgellert and Llanberis.
It was very quiet when we were there - except for being woken at 6am by shrieking blokes doing a sheep round up. All part of the fun though.
Would definitely go there again.

July 2003 This campsite is in an idylic situation and it is hard to imagine there is a better placed one in the whole of the UK. The people are pleasant and very friendly...but...
the rules are not enforced strictly and since I went to this site expecting that dogs would be kept on a lead I was disappointed that there was no enforcement of this rule at all. In fact one person constantly walked 20 yards ahead of her dogs ignoring everything that it did - including fouling on the grass pathway. When I pointed it out she went back but failed to 'find' the pile which presumably stayed there. A crowd of young lads arrived on the second day I was there and they were noisy well after the 11.00 curfew and made a mess in the toilets and left litter. Where were the staff? As I said - nice people running it but conspicusous by their absence when most needed. At £ 5 per head this site has a lot to learn from well-run continental sites, where even the local town sites often have better facilities on offer. This site is a gem in terms of position - pity a little more thought doesnt go into managing it.
