 We stayed here last weekend with our two children aged 13 and 3. We also had another family with us with their two children. We stayed in two big tents in front of the lake. It was very picturesque however incredibly windy.
The site was busy despite the bad weather but no one parked too close and the only irritation was howling big dogs of which there were many although all tied up thank goodness.
The idea of the fire boxes was great we had one for a fire and one for barbie. The children loved it.
We found the lake too choppy to use the our Canadian canoe but managed to use it on the river We hired extra life jackets for our friends children it was cheap.
The toilets where basic but clean with little birds flying/nesting in the roof.
The wardens were friendly.
A suggestion might be it would be useful as they managed to sell fire wood if they could sell milk or eggs / bread the very basics as Beddgelert shops were scary prices £8.95 for a very ordinary Shiraz (£4.00 normally.) Also maybe if there was a facility to freeze ice packs or buy ice to top up the cool boxes.
I think I would go back but definitely not in Summer as I'm sure it would be far too busy as they don't take bookings I guess people just come and come. I like a bit of space and peace and quiet.
There was no signal for the mobile however there was a pay phone.

This site has the most spectacular 360 degree views. It worked out cheap for me, only £7 a night as I only had to pay for myself as my boys are both under 5.
There is a nice toilet and shower block but it got very busy as I went on the bank holiday weekend. There isn't a shop or play area but a lovely river and amazing lake and beach which the kids loved. It was very shallow for quite a way out, so they could play and paddle safely. I took my canadian canoe. You can use the lake and river free of charge.
There were a few negative points. There are no select pitches as such just a few huge fields which became a free for all on this very busy weekend. I was lucky with my pitch as I got there reasonably early but when we got back from our day out everyone had pitched right on top of us! The tents were not much more than a metre away from ours and we had nowhere to put the car. Not impressed! Also dogs are allowed on site on leads but there were quite a few roaming around on there own which our party didn't like.
We went on the Ffestiniog railway which all the kids loved. It could work out very expensive. It costs £17.50 return for the full trip for an adult and kids are half fare, but for each paying adult you get a child free and under 3's are free too. Worth it though.
I'll definitely be returning to this site again just not on a bank holiday!
I know it's sad but there is no mobile signal but there is a payphone!

We stayed here over the May bank holiday weekend and were very impressed with the stunning location of the site, right on the end of LLyn Gwynant lake and surrounded by excellent mountain scenery. You can walk up Snowdon dorectly from the site: a two mile walk along the lake brings you to the Watkin Trail. Tryfan is about a 20 minute drive away and definitely worth the climb to the top.
The nearest town is Beddgelert, which is about 6 miles away. It has a couple of pubs and eating places and a small shop. Further afield is the town of Bets y Coed, which has banks, several outdoor shops, pubs, fuel station etc, but gets very crowded.
The site itself was basically acres of field with hundereds of units packed in to any possible space. The owners don't ever turn anyone away, but on this weekend, they had to tell people to return later in the day when people had left. However, this crowding was simply due to sunny bank holiday weather and by Sunday the place had a small sprinkling of tents and vans.
Site facilities are basic, but adequate. There were big queues, but again down to unusually large numbers of people on site. Site owners were very friendly and they allow fires, so long as you borrow a pit from them and buy the firewood from the site. Kayak and canoe hire is available on site and worth trying.

I have visited this campsite previously and once again I was certainly not disappointed. The site and surrounding region is breathtakingly beautiful. Each time I go there I bring some-one new, who hasn't been before and they always end up going back.
The toilet block and washing facilities are more than adequate for a true campers needs.
There is no better playground for young children than nature as clean and pure as this. My 9 year old son has been camping there for a number of years now and he loves it there - he even talks about having a house there. He always hires canoes with his dad and always ends up very wet, which he loves.
I have nothing negative to say about the campsite, except the fact that you have to buy wood from the campsite (which is a bit expensive). You should really be able to burn your own wood. But it's really a small price to pay.

We stayed for a week last June with mixed weather, but what an amazing location! Absolutely stunning! We arrived during the weekend and found the only spot left around the edge and at the time were a little disappointed that we weren't on the edge of the lake or the stream, however come Monday we practically had the place to ourselves.
We chose the site so we could have a fire on an evening and this always adds to the camping experience in my opinion. They sold wood on site, etc, so was very organised and the staff running the site were all very friendly and helpful.
The showers and toilets were basic, but they did the job and were free (we had 2 small kids with us and still found it okay). For older kids it would be amazing as you can swim in the lake and hire canoes, rope swing over the stream etc. - lovely. The one and only downside in my opinion were the midges/mosquitos - both us and everyone on the site were bitten to death. Though I must say that after the 3 or 4 night it probably did seem to ease off a bit. We also noticed the kids weren't being bitten so think it was definitely only on an evening - definitely take lots and lots of hardcore repellant with you if you go. That said, I would go again, but very well prepared!

I spent a week at the site in August and will definitly be back!
I am a Backpacker and the site offers all you need.
Considering the summer we have had the ground was in good condition.
The Toilet Block has been supplemented by 5 Porta Loos by the entrance to bridge field, which were kept remarkably clean during my stay.
The main toilet block was also kept clean but at peak times there are some issues with water pressure and water temperature in the showers.
Considering it was bang in the middle of the school holidays and that the site was busy, noise was not a problem!
The wardens are friendly and well lade back, but they do seem to enforce the rules, both a generator and a stereo made very brief appearances before being silenced!
The Site is served by a bus service from Porthmadog which drops you off outside the door and the Location is a walkers Paradise!
All in I think Its value for £7 a night!

Visited Llyn Gwynant for 2 nights middle of August from a Friday to Sunday with a group of around 8 adults. We were not very lucky with the weather unfortunately but we had managed to get the tent up in the dry when we first arrived. After that it didn't stop raining for the entire weekend which obviously puts a damper on things (literally!). The fields all seem pretty level but during the rain, got very boggy. A few people struggling to get their vehicles off the fields and out of the site.
As others have said, it is however in a fantastic location - if you love mountain scenery you'll love this site. It was a bit awkward to spot on the approach road (could perhaps do with better signage) and is a bit of a narrow turn into the site - I didn't see any problems with cars leaving left or right out of the entrance though as some others have mentioned. Two of our friends didn't make it to the campsite but they were planning to come during the night and to be fair the surrounding area is very dark and not very well signposted. Beddgellert is probably the nearest village with a few pubs and restaurants.
Nice to have a site that allows fires although you do have to buy their own wood which isn't cheap and will disappear fast! We also found the location to be extremely windy - you can literally hear the wind approaching from up the valley and across the lake!
In good weather I would imagine this to be a great location. On site facilities very basic but adequate. Only concrete floors for toilet block and showers and you would expect these to get dirty because of the weather. Rest was fine though but don't expect luxury. You'll be hard pushed to get any mobile phone coverage but there is a coinbox phone outside the reception building if you absolutely need to get in touch with anyone outside the site.

Been to this site a number of times, and think it's certainly one of the best in the area. The fact that you can have fires is a big bonus, given the often inclement weather.
Picturesque, whichever field you stay on, but it does get busy. Despite the no vehicles after a certain time, we found that a tent had pitched next to ours at about 1 O clock in the morning, Certainly a lot less than the 3 metre fire rule advertised on the entrance. When we raised this with the warden, he seemed more concerned with not upsetting anyone rather than dealing with it. Yes, we were a bit cranky, I suppose, but the fire rules are there for a reason, not a whim.
Despite this, it really is a good site, although it can get very muddy when it rains hard, despite the additional work done with hardcore and paths.
Plenty of walks in the area. And boats can be hired if you fancy splashing around.
Toilets are about as clean as you'd expect on a site, but not exactly a benchmark, and despite the site getting very busy, they were clean and well maintained. Although they did stop working for a few hours and all the ladies on the site had to use the gents, but this was fixed relatively quickly.
If it gets busy, there's no room for the kids to play and they end up getting bounced over to the tree swings, where as a larger group they tend to be more disruptive.
In good weather or poor, the site is in a spellbinding location, and we will continue to use it - despite it coming in at £20 per night for a family of four.
With pubs and shops at Capel Curig and Betws-y-coed, you're never too far from getting a pint and a bag of chips!

This is a really good campsite. It's the only one I've been to mind you. If one of the wardens is reading this we were the group of Asian Lads in July 07. Thanks for looking after us. We're due again shortly. One tip, bring some fly ointment with you if it's the summer and don't stay too near the water; midges and all that.
A bit pricey but than again I feel it's worth it. I'm one for creature comforts and the showers were fantastic (so was the toilet block).
Don't forget to try the boating. We capsized more than a few times but what a laugh.

This really is a stunning campsite. It was one of the most expensive we have stayed on for the basic facilities, but the view makes it worthwhile. It is worth arriving early at weekends as the lake/riverside pitches fill up quickly. The staff are very friendly and tend to call each evening to collect the money, so don't forget to take cash.
Snowdon is within walking distance from the site, as well as many other beautiful walks. Great if you are in a campervan, not having to pack up each day! Betws-y-coed is within easy driving distance for outdoor supplies, great fish and chips and a model railway for the kids.
We had no problems with midgies as there was a strong cool breeze all weekend, and the campfires were great. The facilities were basic but fairly clean. Showers were hot but the water pressure did drop during the early morning demand. Can't say I felt particularly clean after a shower that dribbled, but there are plenty of crystal clear waterfalls within walking distance worth a dip in!
We will definitely be returning to this site in the near future, but this time I will make sure I have a hot bath just before I leave the house!
