NOTE: Site is being completely refurbished and will re-open under new management in March 2010 - this review relates to the old St Johns Ambulance campsite, the sites previous name. New facilities being installed including new toilet blocks, wifi access, cafe and children's play facilities.

Had a lovely weekend at this well equipped and peaceful site, despite some dismal weather.

Plenty of loos, basins and showers & plenty of hot water too, though the facilities themselves are a little bit dated.  There are several electric hookup points lining the majority of 2 sides of the large field.

Well suited to rallies or organised large group camps, and featured excellent 'industrial' cooking facilities and servery (though no dishwasher) and a good sized, carpeted dining hall.  Also featured a sports hall with basket ball hoops and table tennis tables - bring your own bats, balls and nets, etc.  No kids play area, but plenty of space in the centre of the field for all manner of games and sports.

The field itself features one large and well defined campfire circle - probably 10 feet in diameter - which is great if you are in a large, organised group as we were.  We brought our own logs, so worth checking with the manager if any are available to purchase at the site.

Caravan access was slightly tricky but do-able: the access road is quite narrow where it meets the road, and the turn through a gate into the camping field is also rather narrow.  Given that this is a pinch point it could do with being surfaced rather than grassed to avoid it turning into a mud bath during our fine summer months.

The field does not suffer from marked pitches (depending upon your point of view) so there is plenty of space to pitch up and spread out.

To summarise: well worth visiting, especially if you are planning a large group outing or rally.

Visited for Airbourne (Eastbourne's air show). A lovely clean, friendly and peaceful site. The site managers were very accommodating, constantly asking if everything was O.K. And they even lent us a table and chairs. We couldn't believe how cheap it was and with plenty of free hot water. We are already planning a to visit again next year.
