 Stayed at this site for a short city break to meet up with friends.
It was my first CAMC club site stay.
The warden who booked me in was very helpful and friendly, and the site was well-maintained with good clean facilities.
The showers have variable flow rate as well as temperature, and they were great - the best showers I had experienced in a club site!
The site is only a short walk from the main road where one could catch a bus into the city centre, very handy. However, the last 200m or so along Lime Kiln Road to the club site was unlit, which should be fine in the future once the new housing estate next to the site is completed. In the meantime, it would be advisable to carry a torch if one plans to return to the site after dark.
I was provided with some very useful information with regard to the site, local buses and attractions as part of my checking in documentation.
I do not know what else were stocked in the shop/reception, however, they did not keep or sell milk. However, there is a big Tesco just a short drive from the site.
I did not bring my dog with me, therefore, I cannot comment on the dog walk.
All in all, a very pleasant stay, and I shall return to this site if I come back to visit Cambridge in future.

Secluded site in an old quarry, giving it a unique feel with a real sense of privacy. Pitches are flat but there are sloping access ways due to the location.
Approx 3 mile marked cycle ride into the city or there are buses every 10 minutes.
There are 2 local pubs within easy walking distance we tried the independent red lion (which is the opposite side of the road to the Robin Hood. )
Delicious well priced food & friendly welcome.

Cherry Hinton site on the edge of Cambridge, and is in an old chalk quarry, and lovely lightly wooded and secluded. A real sun trap too.
Did a 14. 8 mile cycle to Trumpington and Granchester Meadows, Newnham, Cambridge colleges and centre for lunch (many choics), coffee and hot chocolate stop on Jesus Green, and back to Cherry Hinton. Great day out.
Also a 6 miles walk around Cherry Hinton itself inc. The chalk pits and the brook opposite the site.

We were so impressed with the attention to detail given to social distancing, and keeping staff and us as holidaymakers safe.
The facilities were absolutely spotlessly clean, and there was a good system in place for the toilet and shower block which was easy to understand and which insured good hygiene practices.
There was a peaceful and quiet area for tents, four EHU pitches only, giving a good amount of space for everybody (although we were the only ones visiting), and my only suggestion would be that because there were so many trees around, it would have been nice to have had the grass mown so that there were not so many twigs and leaves about. But that is a very minor suggestion!

Excellent site
The only down side I could see was we had to go home :(
Toilet and shower block was one of the best we seen.
Pitches plenty of room.
Plenty of paths to walk with or with out dogs.

Cherry Hinton Caravan and Motorhome Park is an ideal base for visiting the City of Cambridge.
Lime Kiln Road can be busy and is narrow, although when walking for a bus there’s not much of it.
We were very pleased with the site, given several pitches to choose from, and asked to walk and look at them before choosing.
Wardens were friendly and helpful. The shower/laundry block was clean and tidy.
It a short walk from two bus stops into Cambridge, one alongside the Robin Hood pub and one over the road opposite the entrance, where you can get a bus every 10 minutes into the city centre. Day tickets cost the same as returns. Ask about three day or week passes.
Walking towards Cherry Hinton there is another pub nearby and a selection of shops with an Indian restaurant, and a little further a Tesco store.
If we ever decide to visit Cambridge again we will certainly use this site.

To find site:- Leave M11 at junction 11 and head towards Cambridge on the A1309. Passing through Trumpington turn right onto A1134 also called Long Road and signed for Addenbrooks Hospital. Continue to roundabout and go straight ahead into Queen Edith’s Way, speed limit 20 MPH. Just before next major junction (crossroads sign in view) turn right into Lime Kiln Lane and the campsite is on the right after about 100 metres.
The official CMC routes suggest either junction 9 on the M11 or leaving the A14 at junction 35. However they are both longer, albeit probably a bit quieter. Be aware if approaching from the west that there are major roadworks on the A14 so on weekdays this route might best we avoided
The Cherry Hinton site has been created out of a disused chalk pit and as a result is long and thin with pitching areas branching off the main site road at different levels. All of the cul de sacs have little space to turn so it might be wise to take advice from reception on where the free pitches are.
We found the site surprisingly quiet given its urban situation with the exception of a small amount of noise from the floodlit pitch behind the campsite. The site is now open all year non-members and tents are accepted. There are a total of 54 caravan/motorhome pitches with an additional 4 pitches for tents. 44 pitches are on hardstandings and 10 on grass.
This site has a high percentage of non-awning pitches. Unfortunately some of the hardstanding don't exit onto the tarmac site roads but are instead surrounded by grass which tends to result in damage to the grass in wet weather. Access to electric points is convenient to all pitches, they use CEE17 blue connectors and are rated at 16amps.
The bollards also have access to a TV signal booster system which is free to use but you have to supply your own co-ax cable. Because of the steep sides to the site and trees satellite TV may be a struggle on lots of the pitches. There is one central toilet block which also contains an enclosed and generously sized dishwash room. There is also a laundry and disabled toilet. There are service points dotted around the site.
The motorhome service point is opposite the toilet block but has yet to be converted to an open grill. WiFi is site wide and access can be purchased online. The mobile signal including 4G is good on this site. There are no play facilities on site for children. On the access road into the site just before the barrier are about three late night arrival pitches with electrics. Use of these pitches should be discussed with the site prior to arrival.
Cherry Hinton is an ideal base for visiting the City of Cambridge, renown worldwide as a seat of learning for over 800 years. Not all the colleges have public access and sometimes a ticket is required. Likewise the famous “Backs” which offer those wonderful views across the meadows of the Cam can have restricted access but even the longer distance view looks stunning.
There are good transport links within walking distance of the site. There are two high frequency services one of which has a stop outside of Addenbrooks Hospital. It’s probably best to leave the car on site as the City has a reputation for congestion and very expensive parking charges.
The National Trust have the properties of Anglesey Abbey and Wickham Fen are within easy distance of this site. Cambridge has an excellent selection of shops and eating places. Within walking distance of the site is the Robin Hood and Little John pub that does reasonably priced meals.
For Supermarkets there is a Waitrose at Trumpington and a Tesco towards Fulbourn.

It's true that the layout of the site is unusual for a C&M club site but we found it charming and found a lovely quiet pitch down one of the many cul de sacs. To be fair to the club, extensive redevelopment has been planned for the coming winter.
The toilet block is great, warm and clean, as is the laundry and washing up area. Being just outside Cambridge is handy for sightseeing with shops and pubs just a walk or short drive away.
There is a good dog walk on site and an even better on within 50 metres of the main entrance. The staff are friendly and cheerful.

I feel conflicted about reviewing this site as it is in a fantastic location and we keep returning to it time and time again, but the site itself is very poor.
Firstly the area. This site could hardly be better situated. It is on the outskirts of Cambridge and a short walk from the bus stop where you can get a bus every 10 minutes into the centre of Cambridge. There is a pub nearby and a parade of shops with a number of takeaways (Indian, Pizza, Chinese) if you don't fancy cooking and it is a 3 minute drive from a large Tesco for groceries. There is a small amount of road noise but not too bad and there is a sport field nearby so a couple of evenings a week you get the noise of football training or matches but it is generally quite peaceful. 10 out of 10 in my book.
Now for the site. I will start by saying that none of what I am going to say should reflect badly on the wardens as they are doing their best and are so friendly and helpful. However, the site is very poor. Many of the hardstanding pitches are very very small, the only one that was left when we arrived over Easter was too short for our medium sized caravan so the jockey wheel and the rear steadies were off the pitch which made levelling difficult. In addition, to get to many of the hardstandings you have to drive over a grassy area about 5 metres wide which gets very muddy when wet. Over a very wet Easter we watched several cars getting stuck and churning up the grass and mud and eventually having to be pulled or pushed off the grass. Then, when you want to walk to the toilet block you have to walk over this muddy area so you are constantly clobbered in mud if the weather is wet. The toilet block is not too bad but has windows which open and therefore is always cold as people go to the toilet and open the window before they leave. I must have closed the windows every time I was in but the next time I came back, all the windows were open again and the block was freezing. Then, if you are in the shower and the windows get opened, there is a Siberian blast that seems to funnel down the corridor to the shower area so you end up shivering through your shower. The layout of the site is also very poor with no way to drive around the site so you have to leave your van at reception and walk around the site to pick your pitch before returning to get your van. If you take a wrong turn in getting to your pitch you have to reverse. In the area where we were pitched there was no service point nearby so to fill the aquaroll you have to drag it up a big hill the longest distance I have ever seen on a CC site and then repeat to empty the waste.
The site needs a complete rethink in terms of layout and pitches but because of its location it is very popular. I guess if a site is popular, the CC probably think what's the point in improving it. If people (us included) are mad enough to pay to stay here because of the location, why would they bother fixing anything? My score for the site would be 2 out of 10.
