We are on a 6 month tour around the UK and are currently on this site. We were met by Nick and Pauline who are looking after the site whilst the regular wardens are away. They greeted us warmly and Nick escorted us round the site to chose a pitch. He left us to get settled and then came to check that everything was OK. The site is landscaped beautifully and is hard to believe that it is so close to Cambridge (3 1/2 Miles). We drove to the park and ride yesterday (about 5 minutes away) and caught the bus into Cambridge (£2.40 return).

The nearest pub is about a 5 minute walk (The Robin Hood). It is both a bar and restaurant. We had a meal there and enjoyed it. There are also another couple of pubs a bit further down the road towards Cherry Hinton. Cheery Hinton is around a 10 minute walk with a few local shops. There is a Tesco close by. There a several nature walks around although we didn't go on them. There is also one on the site itself. The showers and toilets are exceptionally clean. We had no problem with internet access through 3 network and phone access with 3 and O2. We have satellite TV and had no problems with reception. I believe regular TV is good with a booster cable (available at the office). All in all an excellent site and would definitely recommend it.

Just a few notes to add to the reviews below.

Ignore anything in older reviews about the state of the ablutions - they have been revamped and are now absolutely superb.

For those how, like us, don't want to drive. There are two main bus routes going to the centre of Cambridge. The Citi 1 (catch it at Gladstone Way or slightly nearer, Limeklin Road stops). The Citi 3 (catch it at Gladstone Way stop). They are frequent services and practical to use until, at least, 11pm (take a torch - Linekiln Road itself isn't lit much).

If you want to go to the main Fulbourn Cherry Hinton Tesco, take the Citi 1 in the opposite direction and alight at the Superstore stop. There are, though, plenty of shops in Cherry Hinton village, a stroll away.

Orange 3G worked fine on the plot we were on on this site.

The facilities on this site are of course second to none as is the case with every Caravan Club Site we visit. It's only about 10 mins walk into Cherry Hinton village which has a post office, general store and several pubs serving good food.

However, the site itself is on different levels and has been a former quarry. The trees are very overgrown and not a lot of pitches get any sun so if you like sitting out at night it's really not possible unless the weather is very warm. There is also a bus that goes into Cambridge from the village.

£20.00 per night Caravan club prices. Stayed at this site in August 2010. A great site, set in the middle of a quarry. Was not able to walk around the lovely nature trails this visit.

The site wardens very friendly and welcoming. They did have a sign up to say that if you arrived between 10.30am and 12pm the reception was not maned as the wardens were busy cleaning the shower blocks.

Now to say a little about the shower blocks, absolute luxury. Separate cubicles with doors for hand wash basin for those that just want a strip wash, perfect. Shower cubicles plenty of room and had a seat in the cubicle and hanging pegs for clothes. Very well thought out.

Several points to fill up with fresh water and to dispose of grey water and also an area to empty cassette toilet waste. Being in a quarry there was a large area that was concrete standing only, not able to put an awning up on that pitch.

There are other pitches that do have a stoned area with lawn beside it, only down side is that there is no hedging between pitches so that you really do get to speak with your neighbours, some may say that this is a good thing or possibly a bad thing!

Didn't see if there was a designated play area for the kids, but as said before the nature trail walks will soon wear them out! Electric hook up points are shared and are at a distance from the pitch so you would need a really long electric hook up cable.

Poor TV reception and absolutely no internet connection. Thats probably because we were surrounded by nature! The town of Cherry Hinton was lovely, a few shops and a couple of pubs only a 5-10 min walk from the site.

To get to Cambridge is a bus ride away and the bus stop is a 5-10 min walk away. We will definitely go back.

The site has been not open for 6 months for work on shower block and roads, and it is one of the best shower blocks I have seen.

With very good disabled and baby/shower's (£10 refundable for key).

The warden's are so lovely helpful and happy. The only bad thing is you have to walk around the site to pick your pich, but you will understand why once you get there as it has is no through roads and lots of dead ends.

Tescos not too far away.

This is the first site we have visited as motorhome owners, We had a one night stop here on route to home.

We found the wardens extremely friendly and helpful, The toilets and showers were spotless and the site in general well maintained.

There is a nice pub within a 5 minute walk with great food and good staff.

Just come back from this site and to be honest we were disappointed.

We'll start with the positive.

Nice and quiet site, great access to Cambridge on the bus (we wanted to go on a punt on the river but didn't trust Jack the spaniel) and lovely dog walks in the surrounding area, lots of nature trails. (Use the nature trail on the site rather than the dog walk if you have a dog that needs to stretch their legs)

Now sadly the -ve's

The toilet block is the gloomiest one I've seen, as hubby said to shave at the 1st sink would be like shaving under the stairs. There appears to be a few strip lights but not enough and I think the burgundy panels don't help. It needs a good modenising.

The wardens were very funny with us and with quite a few others, they appear to loose their dog at least once a day and then ignore everyone till their dog is found (I found this funny as there are so many signs on site telling us they like our dog on a lead!)

The people on the pitch next to us got charged for an awning when the pitch is not able to have an awning.

About 1/3 pitches are unavailable when the ground is damp (this includes hard standing pitches as you have to drive on the grass to get to them)

Some pitches are in the darkest cul-de-sac I've come across and I would have been very unhappy there.

Sadly as much as we looked forward to the break within the 1st 1/2 hr we'd decided we wouldn't go back there and it was only from the fact hubby needed a break from towing that prevented us going elsewhere. I think the biggest disappointment was the Wardens.

To find site:- Leave M11 at junction 11 and head towards Cambridge on the A1309. Passing through Trumpington turn right onto A1134 also called Long Road and signed for Addenbrooks Hospital. Continue to roundabout and go straight ahead into Queen Ediths Way. Just before next major junction (crossroads sign in view) turn right into Lime Kiln Lane and the campsite is on the right after about 100 metres.

The Cherry Hinton site has been created out of a disused chalk pit and as a result is long and thin with pitching areas branching off the main site road at different levels. The site is now open all year. The majority of the pitches are on hardstanding and a few on tarmac although the latter are usually used by large motorhomes. Unfortunately some of the hardstanding don't exit onto the tarmac site roads but are instead surrounded by grass which tends to result in damage to the grass in wet weather. Non members and tents are allowed. Near to reception is a late arrivals area with electric points. There is also and information hut. The site has one heated toilet block which is centrally situated to most pitches. TV reception is rated as fair but there are no TV hook-ups on site. Satellite TV reception will really depend on where you are pitched. Mobile phone/mobile broadband signal seems quite good no doubt as a result of a communication mast near to the campsite.

Cherry Hinton is an ideal base for visiting the City of Cambridge, renown worldwide as a seat of learning which celebrates its 800 year anniversary in 2009. There are good transport links from near to the campsite and reception can give you information. Its probably best to leave the car on site as the City has a reputation for congestion and very expensive parking charges. The National Trust have the properties of Anglesey Abbey and Wickham Fen are within easy distance of this site. Cambridge has an excellent selection of shops and eating places. Within walking distance of the site is the Robin Hood and Little John pub that does reasonably priced meals. For Supermarkets there is a Waitrose at Trumpington and a Tesco towards Fullbourn.

We used this site for an overnight stop on route from Scotland to Dover and wished we could have stayed a bit longer , the site is situated in an old quarry which is a haven for wildlife and rabbits .

On arrival the wardens were very helpful and friendly and suggested we parked are outfit at the reception and walked round and selected a pitch which we did. The Toilet block was up to the usual C.C standards.
All in all a lovely site situated very close to Cambridge city centre and well worth a visit

Recently spent a nice weekend at this site. You would not believe you were in Cambridge as the site is down in an old Quarry. Meeting and greeting at reception was as you would expect it. Then you can wonder off and have a walk round the site to choose your pitch. This is wise as the site goes off into little cul de sac's. Most of the pitches are hard standing and level with only one or two grass so take the correct pegs with you if you have an awning. There is a small area for tents. The facilities are as you would expect for a CC site, clean and well maintained. There are plenty of service points round the site to use. Good television coverage. Good information booth with whats going on. We took a taxi into the city for a night out with friends and this cost us £10.00. A good food pub is only 5 minutes walk away with plenty of selection and space to sit. Buses are often and again only 5 minutes walk away and dog friendly. Over all a nice site and well kept. We visted Anglesey Abbey from here only half hours drive and is a classic National Trust site with wonderful walks in the Gardens, an old house to visit and you get to see a working flour mill. Well worth a visit and you will not be disappointed.
