Very pleased with the site. Was given several pitches to chose from, asked to walk and look at them first before choosing. Staff extremely helpful, always smiling. Yes there is minor road noise, yes there is a sports area nearby, there are birds in the trees, all make a little noise but nothing extreme. Shower block top notch, can't fault it.
No 3 bus stop is around 100 yds from the site entrance, costs £4. 30 return to Cambridge town centre.
Robin Hood pub opposite bus stop serves food and beer to a good standard.
Shops are 2-300 yds away.
The chalk pit nature reserve opposite the site is recommended. If you stay on the path it's a good walking surface, off the path the chalk becomes very slippery.

Used as stopover between Dover and Lincolnshire
Staff permitted me to call each day to get stopover on return (Bank Holiday fully booked).
Very easy to find by satnav - easy access and good facilities.
Local general store nearby.
Staff even helped when oven door came off!
Recommended - so wish to stay longer and explore more fully later.

Arrived here for a visit to the city of Cambridge. Warm welcome and the usual health and safety talk about parking gaps.
The site is on the edge of town a good two miles walk, cycle or bus journey into town There is a bus stop nearby. Recommend cycling. There is a fairly good cycle route nearby.
The site was a little noisy from traffic noise and a sports field nearby.
I felt the cost was a little high and had been bumped up for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend

A typically predictable Caravan Club site where we arrived without a booking but were welcomed without ceremony and told to find a slot. The usual stuffy warden insisted we moved the rig all of a couple of feet to comply with the usual mantra 'Elf and Safety' 6 meter spacing. No other sites we visit insist on this precaution so why the CC sites I wonder. Perhaps if they didn't try to squeeze so many pitches into their sites, we, the paying public, might just have some room to breath. Speed humps, this site not only had them but they resembled peaks on the Eiger. When asked why the vicious nature of the humps, 'you should see the European visitors' came the reply. It seems then that even these draconian measures fail to curb the excesses of the Europeans. An OK site - convenient for the city of Cambridge but not for the long term visitor.

Wish I'd read these reviews before visiting. My receipt indicated arrive between 12 and 2 pm. Of course we arrived at 12. 10 to find we weren't allowed on site until 1pm.
Wardens were friendly and very helpful. This is a small site and as indicated by others is very dark at night. Also noise from adjacent sports hall in evenings.
Road layout is poorly designed.
Site is however well situated for visiting Cambridge with frequent and regular buses from nearby bus stops. The Robin Hood pub is well worth a visit and there are also shops and takeaways nearby also.
If we ever decide to visit Cambridge again we will certainly use this site.

Very nice typical caravan club site about 3 miles from Cambridge city centre on the bus.
Two pubs about 5 minutes walk away, one doing live music.
The old disused quarry across the road is a good dog walk and everyone was friendly.
Pub recommendations in Cambridge are the pickerel, the champion of the Thames and the Kingston arms.

The Caravan Club site is located 3 ¼ miles from the centre of Cambridge at Cherry Hinton. Regular bus services take you into the centre involving a ½ hour journey or ¼ hour cycle ride along the numerous cycle lanes/path way.
The site is accessed from the narrow and busy (at rush hour) Lime Kiln Road. Site has 54 pitches (plus 6 tent pitches) with a combination of grass and hardstandings. With the new Club rules most of these pitches are none awning – i. E. Narrow pitches, and quite dark given the number of trees and the old quarry location. If you want a sunny site use the Camping & Caravan Club site at Shelford.
The usual high standard of Caravan Club facilities and (unfortunate) numerous rules and warden detachment.
Dog walking adjacent the site at the old chalk quarry and nature reserve, or little walk takes you to Cherry Hinton Park and lakes. Nothing on site for kids at all.
Numerous supermarkets and shops within the area. Ideal base for visiting Cambridge, but it is a dark site!

Another lovely site on our mega 7 week tour. Very friendly and helpful wardens loved the layout of the site you did not feel at all crowded even though this was school holidays. The toilet and showers were always very clean and a credit to the wardens, we would definitely return if ever in the area again

Some of the pitches at Cherry Hinton are quite small. The 'park by peg' rule is well circulated and used to ensure clearance between units. The only way to use rules is for everybody to use them, not to allow one or two 'free spirits' to make up their own minds as to whether or not they are going to obey them.
The wardens at the site when we stayed were two of the nicest and most efficient people you could hope to meet. Why get into an argument with someone who is just trying to do his job to the best of his ability. If you don't like the rules, go somewhere else.

We picked this site as it seemed nice and quiet and within easy reach of Cambridge as we were planning a trip to London and going to take the train.
The Good
I like the campsite, it is set in an old Quarry, very quiet site, nicely landscaped may feel dark in some areas due to the Quarry aspect. The site was well set out good roads and signage, the toilets and showers were excellent very clean, even managed to get an ok Digital TV signal.
There is a pub within 5mins walk we never went, but by all accounts has ok food and drink. A good bus service into Cambridge runs about every 10 mins and quite cheap.
The site is more for adults, which I like, no facilities for children.
The site is accessed from a smaller road that leads off the main road, the road can be busy during peak times and as it was raining when we stopped we got soaked as the path is thin and the drivers didn’t care, may be a little dangerous if you have small children.
The not so good
The staff just need to relax a little and remember who is the customer and that the people visiting are on holiday, may have travelled some distance, maybe even a little tired and hungry, the may not have read ever rule or recommendation in the Caravan Club hand book.
If you are visiting this site you MUST have a 25m Hook up cable, my campervan came with a 10m cable, it has never been a problem all other sites the hook up points are within easy reach, all except one site in the Lakes were the hook up was too far away but the owners were so helpful they had an extra-long lead they were more than happy to lend us. On getting to our pitch at Cherry Hinton I found I was about a metre too short so had to park slightly past the marker, the Warden arrived 5 mins later and told us we could not park there, his favourite line is ‘I am not prepared’. He told us he was not prepared to let us stay there we had to move to the right of the marker, I tried to explain that our lead would not reach the hook up point, he paced the length of our cable and said that’s only 10 metres long that’s not good for anything, the rules state we have to leave a fire gap and was my responsibility to bring a long enough cable. The Caravan and camping club say you have to have at least 6m gap between you and another unit, I was at least 8m away from the next unit even going past the marker, He said he was not prepared to let us leave the campervan there I had to move to the right of the marker, he was not prepared to move us to another pitch, as the site was full, he was not prepared to lend us another lead. The situation could have got tense, and out of hand, luckily I am a calm easy-oze person, until pushed too far, but he finally offered to lend us his lead as long as I gave a deposit, (why not offer this in the first place) Now I love rules and safety and understand the need for a fire gap, but I am hungry tired and on holiday, I had never been to this site. Why did he not just explain the situation then offer help or solutions, in a situation it is not helpful being told what cant be done, we need what can be done.
