This campsite is set in an old quarry the ground was really stoney so bring rock pegs!
Mixture of tents and caravans but plenty of room though it was busy.
It was nice and clean and close to Cambridge which is a mass of history with lots of museums, theatres etc.
It was a pity there was no children's playground.
We did visit a children's farm close by which the kids really enjoyed along with aircraft museum for dads!
Would be happy to go back

Have stayed at this campsite a few times now and think it is lovely. Beautiful surroundings and really peaceful. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Campsite is within walking distance of a very nice looking pub and also the bus stop which takes you into the centre of Cambridge.
Toilet/shower block very clean and easily accessible. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Our first time at this site and a pleasurable one it was too. The site is small and tight with one facility block but although it was full for Easter there were no problems with crowding. The pitches seem smaller than normal for The C.C, but ours was fine, although shady in the later afternoon due to the quarry walls and trees. The biggest problem was booking in, there was a queue of around 7 units trying to get in at 12pm on Good Friday, each one having to walk through and select a pitch, then return. The 7th couple probably took 2 hours to get booked in as I had finished setting up when they drove through, that's a fair chunk of holiday time. We were number 3, I thought that the Wardens could have been more co-ordinated about this at busy times. Other than that no problems at all, there is plenty of dog walking around, the site feels rural but has the advantage of easy access to Cambridge where there are some great pubs and restaurants. The buses run to a late timetable too so there is no panicking to get back, it provides a lovely break. Recommended.

This was our third visit to this site as it is semi local to us being from Leicestershire. Not all the pitches were being used as you have to cross grass to get to some of the hard-standings and being wet, they had shut some due to being churned up frm the half term holidays. Wardens were friendly as usual, the walking round to choose your pitch suits us as we generally drive in and park and walk round most sites anyway. It has a dog walk, but it is only around 20-30 meters long, but there is a nature trail that is OK in the better weather, and just outside the site going towards Cherry Hinton is a nature reserve and if you carry on into Cherry Hinton there is a large park about 300 meters in. We walked into Cambridge centre from the site, estimate we did around 7 miles (our dogs are young and energetic) this would be a nice walk in the summer as there are pubs, bars and cafe's along the route. We will certainly be going again.

Having heard that this site was due for refurbishment in 2007, we were surprised to find it very neat and tidy with a warm and clean toilet block showing its age only in some of the details. Just as well, as the refurb has reportedly now been deferred until 2009. The site has a countryside feel and is surprisingly quiet and dark at night, as it is bordering a populated area and the busy Cherry Hinton High Street is only a half mile walk away.
The site does not have a circular road, but three cul-de-sac branches so the wardens will ask you to leave your outfit and walk the site first to choose your pitch - no hardship as it's not a very big site with just over 50 pitches, all hardstanding. There is a card operated barrier, but there is a late arrivals area just before it, so not a worry.
Cambridge is not very car friendly, so to visit the city, hoof it to Cherry Hinton for a bus or drive a mile in the other direction to find the Park 'n' Ride.
Tourism aside, you can get everyday needs from Cherry Hinton, including a meal out as other reviewers have noted. We only tried the Sitar Indian restaurant which was very good and not too expensive
We will happily use this site again.

This is a great base for visiting Cambridge. There is a bus service from Cherry Hinton, with the stop less than 10 mins walk from the site, or a park and ride nearby, which would make the journey slightly quicker. In Cherry Hinton, there is also a Tesco express, a wine shop and a general goods store. There are also 2 chinese, a Thai and an Indian take-away. The nearest pub to the site (Robin Hood) was very welcoming to families and was good value for money, with very large food portions.
The site was very quiet and well-laid out. Although there are no on-site facilities for children, we found it very safe for the small ones to ride their trikes. There is a very good playground in the village, less than 10 mins walk away. The washing facilities are high standard, but older than most caravan club sites.

Just spent a weekend at this site. Weather was extremely good and this site is very convenient for Cambridge. The wardens are not the most helpful, as usual with most Caravan club sites, you are not allowed to reserve your pitch in advance, which is the biggest pain, especially if you have a large motorhome. So we were put on what looked more like a car park area and good job we had a long lead for electricity and there was not a water tap within easy reach either. Toilet blocks were ok. Although very convenient for a wide range of activities in and around Cambridge, we will not be going back as it was not the most hospitable of sites and we have been to a few as we go away every weekend.

May 2005 Like all(?) CC campsites, caravans and hardstandings dominate, but tents are welcome in the far end of the site when it is not fully booked. I stayed in a small tent, no car (train to Cambridge from Stansted Airport), there are frequent bus services to Cambridge city centre appr. 300 yards from the campsite entrance. A taxi in the evening will cost you £ 9-10.
The reception has nothing for sale except icecream and chemical toilet fluid - I always find it a bit annoying when you can't get any basic necessities at the campsite (e.g. soap, shampoo, soft drinks, biscuits etc.), but in this case Cherry Hinton Village is appr. 600 yards away, so it's not a big problem.
There are several pubs in the village, a large Greene King pub (the Robin Hood & Little John) is the nearest - they have a very popular dining area. The campsite is situated in the middle of a small nature reserve - which means that there are lots of rabbits visiting the site, and the birdsong on a May morning is just amazing. The site and the toilet block is kept reasonably clean - and the very best thing is that the showers and the hot wat water are FREE - no coin charge system to shut off the water when you have soap all over your body. Thumbs up!
I saw no playground or any other facilities to entertain the kids, but clearly the beautiful historic city of Cambridge is the lure here. Recommended for anyone visiting Cambridge!

1999 This site was excellent, wonderfully clean. handy for visiting Cambridge. I don't think there was an area for the kids when we went.
