The setting is perfect right near to the river and wild life. On checking in were given numbers for the toilet block.

Lots of choice where to camp on friday evening and as we were having friends joining us the next day lots of space.

Staff friendly and helpful on our visit with a well stocked shop.

We camped out in the field and this is great for children of all ages no noise after 11pm! - A park for younger and older children just a 5 mins walk away.

The downside is - rubbish around fenced area and toilet block are small, cramped and old. The showers are free with hot water but need some replacing ie no locks on the doors!

A little TLC is needed in this area -

But def will return

My wife and I have just returned from a 3 night stay at Wansbeck Riverside Park.

This site could be an absolute gem if only Wansbeck Council would get their fingers out and replace the now terrible toilet facilities, although they are kept very clean and well stocked with paper etc, an uphill battle is being lost as the toilet block is just to old as all the reviews I have read on this site agree.

Ian (Site Manager) and his wife are two of the nicest people you could wish to meet, nothing is to much trouble for them.

The site has lovely pitches with hard standings, electric and water. The views along the river Wansbeck are stunning. The on site shop holds the more than the basics, although Guidepost or Ashington are only 5 mins away and both have adequate shopping.

Loved this park it was very spacious loved the partitioning hedges to give you privacy. The park was very quiet, great little shop for the kids to spend (or waste) their pocket money in

Only one major let down and that was the porta cabin toilet block it well and truly needs to be knocked down and replaced with a more up to date block apart from that a lovely site

The warden was very helpful and friendly

I visited this site on several occasions. The setting is wonderful with lovely riverside walks. The site is run by Ian & Tracey who do a wonderful job! for the price of a nights stay this is very reasonable.
The site is dog friendly. There is a paddling pool and swing park adjoining the site which is very popular.
The only off putting thing is the toilet block. These are cleaned regular but they are very dated. This site would be perfect if a new toilet block was installed. Will be back soon.

Me and a friend stayed here in single tents for a week and were positioned quite close to the shop which was ideal. Staff were friendly, and very welcoming.

We had a lovely time, some nice walks and sits by the river. Off again in 2010 with a group of friends. Would highly recommend this campsite, great value for money, and find their deposit scheme much better than most. £20 deposit is refundable after your trip, as long as you aren't anti-social.

We planned 2 nights here at the end of a week's holiday but due to being flooded out of the original site, we ended up staying a full 8 nights. Attractive site, well off the road so no traffic noise!

Lovely private pitches for caravans, with hook up.Easy access to water and lots of bins close to pitches. Wardens are friendly and helpful;well stocked little shop. Sunday to Friday were quiet and peaceful - Friday / Saturday nights much busier and noisier but strict rules on noise were adhered to.

The 2 negatives for this site are the outdated toilet / shower block and the local town which is unattractive but has essential shops.

Great site for touring all the tourist hotspots- Alnwick, Berwick, Bamburgh, Farne Islands etc.

IF the facilities were improved we would definitely go back.

Stayed for three nights at the end of May, 2009.

The trip comprised of myself, wife and teenage daughter. Also present, our faithful yorky, Monty!

Site well signposted and fairly easy to locate.

First impressions were the beautiful location, just alongside the River Wansbeck.

Mixed job lot of caravans & tents in neat hedged partitions! Separate camping field also.

Site manager, Ian, very friendly and helpful.

Price for 3 nights with Electric, £51.00.

On siting caravan, noticeable slope caused slight problems. Recommend taking adequate levelling blocks or similar.

Reception included the shop which had adequate supplies, more kiddies toys than anything. A few more of the 'essentials' would have been appreciated. Saying that, local Asda & Lidl were only 5mts by car (Asda 24hr!)

Nearby Chip shop not recommended, 'Sea Horse' just up from 'Angler's Bar'. Chippie was staffed by the most miserable people they could have selected, food was really awful and place was grubby. If you want a takeaway meal, there are Indians, Chinese, etc nearby. Cannot comment on them though.

River walk in both directions recommended, especially early morning. Loads of Rabbits, few Storks and abundance of 'greenery' to enjoy.

Loads of dog walkers, but no droppings to endure.

Path was spotless, credit to the people who walked their dogs.

Now the bad point, the toilet block! It appears to be an old shipping container with a filthy fibreglass roof. The toilets are certainly not free range, cannot turn in the cubicles, same for the showers. Water plentiful and hot the only good point. Cleanliness very, very basic.

That about sums it up. I really do hope they can be rebuilt as the site itself is a little gem.

A picturesque part of the country amidst Wansbeck country park. The warden Ian and his wife were brilliant and could not have been more helpful. We had a tent and requested an electric hook up, to which we were given a choice of pitches, unfortunately they were hard standing, so managed to bend quite a few pegs.
Situated by the river, walks were plentiful and scenic. A small shop on site kept quite a good selection of goods inc foodstuff. A 20 min walk also takes you to shops, or only 10 mins by car to Ashington which I enjoyed.
The only bad side to this pretty site is the very dated toilet blocks, which are in fact potracabins and have certainly seen there day. Hot water was abundant but as I stated toilets in much need of an upgrade. Had planned to stay for a week but sorry to say the toilets scared me away.

Just spent a glorious Bank Holiday weekend at this fantastic site. Lots of people complain about the shower / toilet block, fair enough it could be updated, but hey we are campers on a camping site not staying in a hotel!
The site itself is first class if you just want a bit of peace and quiet with beautiful scenery and walks. It's hard to believe that you are just approx 30 mins drive from the hustle and bustle of Newcastle city centre.
The manager (Ian), is one of the nicest and most helpful blokes I have ever met, nothing is too much trouble. I went with my two boys aged 6 and 8 and they had fun 24/7, in fact they want to go back next weekend!
Cant wait to go back myself as soon as work allows. I would definitely recommend this site to anyone and already have!

Spent time at the park while up *North* for a wedding --- it was a fantastic choice. Start to finish we could not have chose a better site. Wardens were very friendly and helpful - site was clean and quiet --- and the river walk was very pleasant ---.

We found the disabled facilities to be very clean and lovely hot water -- no complaints.

Will certainly return --
