We rang the site on the Friday afternoon and was delighted to find they could accommodate us at such late notice, for the bank holiday weekend - only 20 mins from home too.

The wardens , Ian and Tracy ,were very welcoming and helpful , as was Tony and his wife who seem to have a permanent tent pitch and help out in the shop/cafe. He even inflated our airbeds for us ( we go non ehu)

Weather was glorious , as was the location by the river. Great park where the children hung out and the shop was well stocked.

Pitching was bit of a mare , as where we were had grass grown over hollow concrete blocks but once we got the hang of ' poking for a soft bit' we were up and running.

Loos and showers very clean but dated (although the disabled shower room was great for my step daughter, as was Ian's advice about which pitch would be most central for her to get everywhere easily.).Water plentiful and hot.

Site is well maintained and clean and , of course there is Jake the dog who insisted on bringing us many sticks , in exchange for a sausage. He even stepped inside our tent , Colin ,for a while .

A great chippy is just up the road and Asda only 10 mins away in Ashington.

We are all looking forward to a return visit as £33 for 5 of us , with large tent and 2 cars, for 3 nights is not to be sniffed at.

Well we left it a little late for the Bank holiday weekend and managed to arrange a pitch on the site after ringing on the evening prior. As we arrived the rain poured however were met by the friendly manager who directed us to our pitch being up the hill but hey great for TV signal. As usual male did his 'Hunter ,provider' character and insisted he unhitch as me and our daughter sheltered in the veritable safety of the family saloon. Needless to say after 15 minutes of preparation we were set up and as we alighted from our cover and him sodden the rain stopped, Well he did milk it!

So about the site

We only live in Washington Tyne and Wear so as we said a late choice and hubby did grow up in Bedlington (2 miles away) but what a wonderful site Our 10 yr old met a few children on the first night and well we hardly saw her lol.

Yes the toilet blocks are dated but come on we are enjoying the outdoors.

The main thing about this site is that the management team (although only met him) were exceptionally warm and helpful and that the site has a family feel all the better.

So although only 20 miles away we will be back

What a great find, the manager couldn't have been more helpful, going back next month, think found our new hotspot. The shower block could do with updating but were very hot and most important free so what do you want for nothing.
Great park for the kids and very close to local shops. Ashington 5 mins by car. Club pub would be great , but there is local pub if you really need one in the pub.

Went for 2 days, stayed for 5. Owners were friendly and very helpful. Nothing too much trouble and even offered to help, outside of their working hours!

Safe fenced park for the children, little shop with milk, bread and pocket money toys for the little ones.

River walk with ducks and swans gliding down. Met many friendly, responsible dog walkers (no dog poops around!)

Large wooded area with lots of wildlife and exploring!

Toilets are dated and expecting an upgrade, but were clean and plenty of free hot showers!

Nearby town (short drive)has a great range of shops.Co-op,fruit shop, newsagents, chippy & pubs. Well worth a visit.

We decided to have a weekend away and rang quite a few sites but with no luck, most were not open at this time of year. We'd looked at the reviews for this site before and had never bothered trying it for ourselves, so we decided on the spur of the moment to give it a try as we were having no luck anywhere else. I'm really glad we did. The site was excellent, the warden and his wife were so friendly and helpful and nothing was a bother. The pitches are really good, reminding me of the pitches we had in Brittany, France surrounded by hedges and very private.

The toilet and shower block were outdated, but clean.

The riverside walk was really nice, and the kids play area next to the caravan site was excellent, my young son loved it. So did I.

We,d recommend this site to anyone, and will definitely go back.

Just returned from a week at Wansbeck. Had a fabulous time. We thought the site was lovely. The site is clean and tidy, plenty of bins and recycling facilities and the wardens (who live on site) are very friendly and welcoming. Lots of wildlife on site - birds, bunnies and we even saw a red squirrel.

The on-site shop is good for essentials such as milk, washing up liquid etc. Also sells small toys for £1 to £2 (ideal to keep kids occupied). My two loved the ice-pops (15p) so that was their daily treat with all the coppers they had got in their money bags.

The park next door to the site is good, although was very water logged so wellies came in handy. Very busy at the weekend with older kids / teenagers so felt a bit intimidating but during the week it was very quiet. Paddling pool ok too, kids enjoyed having a quick paddle.

There's a laundry room - with washer and dryer. An iron is available to hire free of charge.

The only bad thing about the site was the showers / toilet block - it needs updating badly, its a portakabin at the moment which despite being very clean inside looks grubby and dirty. Once this is done it will be an excellent site.

Lots of things to do and places to visit. We spent a couple of days on the beach at Newbiggin which was about 15 mins drive away. Also visited Bamburgh, Seahouses, Beadness, Morpeth, Alnwick, Blyth and Whitley Bay. Ashington village is a short drive away. There are plenty of shops in the area including Asda, Netto and Lidl - all a short drive away.

The walk along the river is very tranquil, you can follow it to sea but we didn't make it that far.

Would return definitely (preferably when they have updated the shower block).

Been here 3 separate nights. Fab my kids loved it and want to come back all the time people and wardens are great. Toilet block is a bit dated but clean ,this should not stop you visiting this park as they are being renewed for next year.
We actually fed a fox that visits every night. This site also has a choice of tent field or secluded spots with hedges so wind is never a problem. Shop is well stocked with real pocket money price things for the kids.
The wardens (as this is a council site) are great and very helpful and he will even give you a menu for local takeaway which will be delivered to your tent or reception. This is a site where kids can be kids (without being cheeky sods) by building camps and swings in the woods. Kids are now whinging at me to take them back again.
Fantastic site for the money (£12.00 for five people) The only warning I would give is that the playpark and river are on public paths so you should really supervise any young kids when in these area's but as we had 11 and 13 year olds this was not really a problem. Take some rope and a bit of stick and the kids will amuse their selves and have a go yourself if your brave enough.
Thanks to Ian and Missus for a site well run.

Never again! The owner seemed very friendly and helpful when we checked in, I was a little suprised when he gave us a ticket with codes on to access the toilet / shower blocks, but thought maybe they were nice and new and as the site is situated next to a lovely riverside walk, thought it was probably to stop them being used by people just walking along the river, BUT! I have never seen anything like it and I have stayed on a lot of sites. It was essentially a portacabin which was filthy dirty and to put it politely I would say very very compact! I used the toilet once out of desperation and didnt even bother with the shower as I am sure I was already cleaner than they were! Desperately need to be upgraded.
The site was quite nice in itself, although the pitches were on quite a slope, 2 chocks and a piece of concrete still didnt level us up! We arrived at 5pm and were gone by 7am and only stayed that long as had driven from the Highlands and were in need of a rest, enough said!

Just come home from a weekend at this site. We only live about 5 miles away from here but we had heard so many good things about this site we thought we would give it a shot. All in all we were very glad we did.
We had a lovely pitch with ehu in a secluded corner of a small field. The kids absolutely loved the play park and paddling pool. The weather was gorgeous and we had lovely walks along the river.
The only down side about this site was the toilet block. It was one of the worst we have ever seen. It was dingy, filthy and smelly. There was no room in either the toilet cubicles or the showers. We heard off one of the regular visitors that they were going to be building a new block near the end of this year. Hopefully they do because that was the only thing letting this fantastic site down.
We will definitely be returning.

What a lovely campsite, its quite hard to believe that you are a short distance from Ashington. We stayed on the Bank Holiday weekend and had wonderful weather and the kids loved the site, there is a large enclosed park for the kids and a paddling pool when the weather is nice. This campsite was very clean and the warden was very friendly and most helpful.
There is a shop on site, take lots of change for the kids. The walk along the river is lovely. There is only one downside to this campsite and that is that the shower and toilet block could do with a bit of updating. It was clean but in need of repair. The plus side was that the water was contantly hot, so you could shower anytime of the day. There was no soap for washing hands so take your own. Overall for the price they charge a bargain.
