We left booking our holiday too late, so when we managed to get a pitch at Forest Edge, we were not expecting too much. The price was very reasonable and I suppose you get what you pay for.
Whilst the site is on the Forest Edge, it is also on the edge of the very busy A31, so if you want a nice peaceful quiet stay, this sites not right for you.
The pitches are tiny compared to other sites we've stayed on, no space for anything else except the caravan, awning and car.
The shower blocks and toilets were shabby. No locks on the toilets in the ladies and all in need of a good clean!. Further, the kids playing field that is advertised is now no more, static homes taking its place.
The staff however were great, friendly and helpful.
You can take a walk through Hurn forest to Forest Edges sister site Oakdean, where we spent a fun few hours in the pools and crazy golf (food in the cafe at Oakdean not great, take your own sarnies!).
We did have a good stay, the kids had a fantastic time but we have stayed in better and won't be returning.

We have recently returned from this Shorefields site after a 3 night weekend stay. The site is very reasonably priced (a week with a hookup around £90.)
The toilets and the showers were clean and tidy and there was always plenty of very hot water. The down side to this site for a tourist is that there are a large proportion of touring caravans and tents that appear to reside full time on the site and with grass growing up and around them not only gives the site an unkempt look it also does not feel like you are on holiday.
The other downsides are that the site is very close to the main A31 so there is constant road noise.
The site would be ideal for those on a budget and to be used as a base for visiting nearby attractions however it not suitable for those looking for peace and tranquillity and getting away from it all.
Sadly we will not be returning.

My partner and I, both in our early twenties have just returned from a two night, weekend, camping holiday at Forest Edge, and what an excellent time we have had!
All members of staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and went well out of their way to accommodate us, even down to finding us something to prop our BBQ up with!
Forest Edge is an excellent campsite for getting away from it all, with all the entertainment only a short walk away at Oakdene. The only slight criticism I have was that the showers were a little dirty, and communal shower/toilet areas could do with a little updating, but for £13.50 a night we were hardly complaining! Tent was easy to pitch and the ground was comfortable to sleep on, no rocks etc!
We both had a lovely weekend and would like to say a special thank you to the staff for being fantastic!
We'll definitely be returning for another camping trip in the summer!

** Owners Comments **
We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Forest Edge Holiday Park. We welcome all customer feedback whether it is receiving praise or listening and learning when we need to, in order to maintain and improve the services and standards we offer.
We are aware of a number of issues this season that has detracted from customers enjoyment of the park and we will be working throughout the winter to develop the site and rectify a number of the problems raised this season.
Kind Regards

Will not return, found to be dirty and neglected. Toilet and showerblocks both need improvement with the ones on the far side in need of closure. Lack of grass on our grass pitch and when it rained, water on a pitch nearby was over an inch deep (pitch 52).
Road noise from both A31 and boundary lane not too bad for us, as we live on a main road but for some, especially in tents, could be a problem. Ongoing electrical problems with the site rendered our electrical hookup useless although a partial refund is being considered regarding this matter.
Very few staff on site at any one time which is surprising for a site this size and to be considered over priced at £34 per night, although this does allow you to use the good facilities at the neighbouring static site. Great area though with lots to do without travelling too far.

Our party, as usual, was made up of me (Dad), the wife; our two boys aged 10 & 7 and our doggie.
It’s been a long time since we came up against a site where, from the moment we arrived, we have nothing but problems. But it got no better.
I must say now that both the warden and the assistant warden(s) are a credit to Forest Edge as on all the problems that I went to them about. They did their best to solve problems but some were beyond their control. At all times they excelled the standards above and beyond what can be expected of them while working under the pressures caused by a full field, and working for a company who seems to not really understand that touring fields are not a licence to print money but do need constant investment.
Driving to Forest Edge with the aid of Sat-Nav was perfect and caused us no problems at all using the postcode as supplied by the site, but this is due to the fact that Forest Edge is next to the A31.
We checked in and the lady on reception was polite and helpful and ensured that so far, everything was done quickly and efficiently.
We were allocated pitch 53 and once we had all the maps and passes, we proceeded direct to pitch No.53. When we first looked at pitch 53 we drove on pass thinking we had made a mistake as the pitch looked tiny and then once we knew we had it right, we returned back to pitch 53.
After asking the adjacent vans to remove the tennis net strung across my intended pitch, I backed the van on and that was when the first set of problems occurred.
Upon unhitching, a group of people from the 3 vans that surrounded my van gathered around myself and my family to inform me that they were all of one group (although Forest Edge stipulate no groups allowed) and that pitching there was not on as the pitch is a tent pitch and their mother who was in a caravan further up the field had not been allowed to pitch there with a caravan. Upon investigation, it appeared that by me pitching there, it would block in a van that was due to depart prior to myself and so the warden was called in by the family group to get myself moved on if you like.
I was glad I could move as my oldest lad is autistic and found the various adults stood close to us given us the polite version of ‘what for’ regarding pitching there un-settleling. My lads normally get out of the tow-car as soon as they can at a new site to see what the park is like and is very unusual for my boys to spend too much time in our van during the time we are on the site, but even in the dry periods, my lads had no interest playing out here and I can only put it down to the welcome we received from fellow campers.
We were then allocated pitch 57 and although this new pitch was an upgrade to the mud of pitch 53, pitch 57 had hedging on 2 sides and our vans sides was within 50cms of these high hedges so this led to little natural light in the van during the rain of the weekend. This pitch, which happened to become available at short notice due to ‘a cancellation’ was to cause us problems later on.
Pitching was now delayed an hour, but was otherwise easy with the ground firm and all water and electricity points nearby.
During or stay there was problems with the sites electricity breakers constantly popping and although the Warden told us it was a problem caused by a tent or van, I had might doubts as the breakers would stay in for long periods and the problem only start when the weather turned damp.
I personally spoke in depth with the warden regarding this problem, and 21 hours after the first report of loss of supply, they had only just informed one of the company directors of a problem but what annoys me was the staff had to contact him and therefore wait to a reasonable hour to ring him (he was in Spain on holiday) before a electrician or electrical contractor could be contacted.
It was 1600hrs on the Sunday, a full 48 hours after the first problem, that I saw the local electricity distribution company Land Rover arrive on site and the breakers were still popping. Even so, 3 days after the first problem and with the electrical company stand-by on site, the electrical supply was still being lost.
The site has two lots of shower / toilet blocks and I will only comment on the block nearest to the reception as the warden himself said that the top block is less than expected so we never used them: The floor to all toilets and urines in the gents, the floor to the sinks and the showers were never seen to be clean. I’m sure the Warden did clean them, but the toilet just attracts the dirt as no mats are provided to catch it off the feet of visitors.
There is no outer door on the toilets and so leads to a wind going through the block and although the wash basins has recently been updated, the showers had mould on the sealant running around the windows etc. The showers only run at one constant heat and cannot be adjusted but this said, I always found the shower water to be hot and plenty.
We were not disturbed by the traffic on the A road passing the site, but we talked to different families of campers on different days while washing up that could not believe how much noise was generated by the road at night and the dreaded noise seemed to be worn brakes drums on HGV’s!
Our biggest problem with the Forest Edge site was the noise caused by the vans and tents near to our van. The general level of day to day noise (shouting etc) combined with multiple vehicles movements at gone midnight to allow 2 cars in in-between vans was just downright inconsiderate.
The laundry was out of service during our stay as the washing machines were broken leading to us having to take all our washing to the nearby Oakdene site and doing it there.
Then, to make matters worse, our awning flooded to nearly 3 inches deep in parts on the Sunday night. Yes, there was heavy rain that night and yes, the whole area was affected by rain, but the grass around are van and awning was only slightly flooded and dry by next morning, but the gravel part of the pitch which the awning was on was lower than the surrounding area as the gravel has been compacted to such a depth, leading to any surface water nearby being naturally attracted to settle in my awning.
There is a Late Night Arrivals area here but we never saw it empty as it seemed to be full of either second cars or a transit van which had taken residence it seemed.
We used the Oakdene site (of which you get free use of while staying at Forest Edge) for both day-to-day things as the Forest Edge site was falling below the mark. The Oakdene site is much better looked after by the company and the swimming and evening entertainment were faultless.
To the outside world, Forest Edge looks a lovely place to stay, and it could be, but I wished I had never set foot upon the site. 20 years after last visiting the area, I know I want to re-visit the area so as to ensure a nice stay in this lovely part of the country, but not with Forest Edge and certainly no with Shorefield Holidays.
Shorefield Holidays! Do yourself and your company as a whole a favour and close Forest Edge this winter, give it a massive makeover, and re-open it once everything is like the worst CC or worst C&CC site you can find.
My holiday cost £220 of which every day was spent either worrying about the electrical problems, the forthcoming evenings noise with either the movement or cars or the noise of the radio / families being noisy till far too late or the flooding and the last day of my holiday spent drying everything out.
As always, kindest regards
Andy O’Keeffe

We as a family have just returned from a lovely few days at Forest Edge. This was our first caravan trip and the staff offered to put us on an easier pitch to negotiate then sent a staff member to help us unhitch and manoeuvre the caravan which was fantastic.
The site was very clean, toilets were always spotless and with plenty of loo roll. The showers had doors and an inner curtain so your clothes etc stayed dry!
There was a specific enclosed area for ball games which suited our children, the area was used by plenty of families still allowing ample space. There was a swimming pool on site but was very small and only allowed 14 people at a time with no time limits in operation, saying this we were also able to use the facilities at the larger Oakdean site approximately 1 mile away via a pleasant walk through the forest (or further by car).
This is well worth doing as there is a large pool water slide and outside splash area. Both sites had a shop with long opening hours at reasonable prices. Forest Edge was quiet by 10:15pm. We will definitely stay at this site again without hesitation.

Just returned from Forest edge after spending 6 nights camping there. The pitches where all small and they sure knew how to pack them in. Some pitches there suffer from a distinct shortage of grass so you basically pitch on the soil {which resembles silver sand}. On one side you have the A31 main road running past, on another side a lane that is a locals short cut to Christchurch. The bakery lorry arrived at 5'30 in the morning so we awoke to the sound of his reversing warning. The football park is covered in grey type sand so the kids do tend to come back filthy.
The toilets and showers were all ways clean with lashings of hot water ,the shop could have done with staying open a bit later than 5.30pm. The site itself is always tidy.

Stayed here for 5 nights and on the whole had a great time.
The toilets blocks were very dated and not what you would expect when paying £34 per night to camp and some of the toilet cubicles were not cleaned the whole time we were there.
That said the rest of the park was well kept, the outdoor pool was great and the shop is very well stocked and reasonable priced.
Yes there is some noise from the road but we really did not notice it, I guess some people zone out better than others.
The use of Oakdene is a plus as well, it takes about 20 minutes to walk there and that is with a 3yo in tow so not too bad. The pool at Oakdene and the facilities are fantastic and well worth a visit.
Moors Valley and Avon Heath Country Parks are within a few minutes drive from the camp-site and make for cheap but fantastic days out especially if you have children.
Unfortunately for us the campsite was the victim of theft and several people had items stolen from outside their tents during one night of the stay, one member of our party had their bike stolen. The wardens did assure us it was the first time it has ever happened to them and were very helpful to all involved.

Have just spent 3 enjoyable nights at Forest Edge Holiday Park. Me, hubby and 2 dogs.
As previously stated in other reviews the pitches are VERY close together, but you get enough room for car, caravan and awning, and once you've got yourself settled, it doesnt really matter! Shower block ok, and although visiting over bank holiday weekend, didn't have to queue for loo or showers, which was good.
Showers were pretty basic, and had to keep pressing button to keep shower running, but water was hot, and handy basket for shampoo etc in shower. Toilets also pretty basic, and a bit shabby, but ladies always had loo roll and soap when I visited them! Staff all seemed friendly, and saw plenty of wardens wandering around keeping an eye on things. The road noise was audible, and could be annoying if close to your pitch, but where we were, it wasn't enough to disturb us. Very small swimming pool on site, which we didn't use, and small play area for kids. Lots of kids riding their bikes around the site while we were there.
All in all, a good base for exploring the new forest, and surrounding areas. But if you are looking for space, and good views, then it wouldn't be for you!
