Easter 2004 Stayed here from Easter Saturday to the following Wednesday. Children really enjoyed the site, clean facilities etc. Used the pool at Oakdene. Jacuzzi out of order all of our stay and the pool was closed due to high chlorine levels on one afternoon. Had a pitch very close to the A31. Very noisy even with all the van windows shut. All through Sunday night before BH Monday the road noise from motorbikes was tremendous. The site emptied on BH Monday to about 10% occupancy. We planned to leave our motorhome awning up until 4pm on day of leaving. Our request was refused unless we paid a full night's fee, apparently the head office computer allocates pitches and it could have choosen ours!!! I do find this very petty, we were not hooked up to the electric and the site was nearly empty. Even worse the family next to us were oblivious to the etiquette of asking to stay beyond 12 noon. They were planning to stay all day just like they always do when they visit this site. Nice site, wrong location. Would not revisit, road noise too much and feeling hacked off about not being able to leave the awning up.

June 2003 Having stayed at Oakdene for the past ten years we have seen a dramatic change, not all for the best! We find that the type of people going there now do not have the caring camper attitude e.g. youths hanging around loos till 3/4am and when you're in a tent it can be quite intimidating, so dont pitch too near the toilets!! The disco seems to attract teenagers and generally they are well behaved.
The facilities are very good there though and staff are really nice at both sites.I think I'm just getting old cos my kids absolutely love it there hence we return year after year. Forest Edge is a better alternative as it is just far enough away to let me have a good nights sleep.

July 2003 We arrived at the site and was greeted by a friendly receptionist, who gave us great information on the camp sight. Our pitch was great and very near the wash blocks. I must say the facilities available ie: washblocks, washing up area are excellent, the best I used so far, very clean.
The only thing I would say it is very near the A31, so the noise from the road was quite loud at times.
Forest Edge is an excellent campsite for children, near the swimming pool at Oakdene park, also close to Bournmouth, Ringwood and Christchurch, which is worth a visit.
This was our first visit to Forest Edge and as a couple we found it a little noisy, but for families excellent, we will come back once we have our own little angels!!!!

2ND-5TH MAY 2003 This campsite is one of two in the area, that are part of shorefields holidays limited. The other site, which is about a 10 minute walk away is called oakdene and had more on but we choose forest edge cause it was quiet. We went at the beginning of may so the bar and pool weren't open at forest edge but they were at oakdene.we didn't stay for the entertainment as we have 2 small babies so we went back to our tent at forest edge and let the kids please themselves. The site itself is excellent, well drained pitches, sheltered washing up area and new, clean toilets and showers. There is also a sand covered enclosed play area where you can play basketball etc.The ladies in the reception/shop are really friendly, and couldn't help us enough! There was a small park which kept the kids quiet! And it is right next to a lovely forest which if you cut through brings you out to oakdene.I must also say that if you want a good meal whilst staying there you must visit the restaurant on the opposite side of the road called "the hungry poacher" the food is the best! If you like a big meal then this is for you! But beware! Book in advance as it gets really busy....we ate there every nite we were there, and never got fed up with it! Great play area out the back for kids too!Forest edge is right on the edge of the new forest (funny that)! And has the most spectacular views, great too if you like walking! Not far from bournemouth either! There was only one downside to forest edge, it is situated right next to the a31,(bit noisy)! We were on the edge in the centre nearly so it didn't affect us much, but there are a row of conifers on the left as you go onto the pitches, and that's where the a31 runs!We are going back on august bank holiday weekend, and when we went last time they were doing up oakdene, so hopefully there will be more there this time!Well recommended, can't wait to go back.
