We have just got back from our first ever camping trip with a 4 year old and a 14 month old. We arrived at Forest Edge an hour early but the Lady in Reception booked us in. She told me I had been allocated quite a poor pitch so tried her computer to find another, after 5 minutes she had a new number for us - I walked out and the area we were in had dozens of empty pitches but I guess that's what the computer told her.
Kids play area small but very nice. Washing up facilities fine - plenty of room. Showers and WC all good - dated but clean and worked. Walked through the woods to Oakdean (With staying at Forest Edge you are intitled to use all the facilities there) and the swimming pool, only a short walk and easily done with a pushchair.
Swimming pool very good, I guess at weekends could get busy but for us midweek it was nice to have the place to ourselves, the slide perfect for our adventurous 4 year old.
Really nice campsite everyone helpful, however we will only ever return if we all turn deaf, the location is horribly close to the dual carriageway and the round-about so you hear everyone stopping and starting and racing all through the night! A real shame and ruins this lovely place. Noise is horrendous

Nice friendly site with clean facilities. Pitches were on the small side, but it does state so on their website. It rained more or less constantly for 4 days and the pitch survived.
Its a 15-20 mins walk with a pushchair to Oakdene. The pool there is very clean and our toddler loved the flume. There is also evening entertainment, a cafe and slot machines. Not a lot to do for teenagers.
Yes the traffic is loud and does not stop, once again this is stated on their website.

Returned from this site disappointed. The pitches were cramped together, there is very little room in between. The toilet and shower blocks are very old and in desperate need of an overhaul, whilst there is hot water the water pressure fluctuates so showers can dribble. The cleanliness in the toilet blocks was poor and I saw very little evidence of cleaning during my stay. The smell of amonia on one day was choking. Despite saying they tolerated no noise after 10, we were regularly woken at 1 or 2 am by a group of lads camping opposite. Others complained too, but it wasn't resolved by the staff. There is a noise from the main road nearby, day and night, the road is good for access in exploring the area but it isnt very relaxing. On the plus point, the swimming pool is nice for small children and the nearby oakdene resort is good but is a fair walk away, although a short drive.

We visited this site a couple of weekends ago, with quite a large party (4 adults, 7 kids). The staff were really helpful - they booked us on three adjoining pitches and we were allowed to arrange tents & vehicles pretty much as we wanted. They give you a diagram at Reception when you arrive, showing how you are supposed to position your tent and vehicle, but when we explained what we wanted to do the staff were really accommodating.
The children enjoyed all the facilities, dividing their time between the ball park, play area and the (very warm, lifeguarded)swimming pool. We all walked over to Oakdene one afternoon and used the facilities there as well, which was easy to do and very enjoyable. Just make sure you take or memorise the little map you are given on arrival, as there are no signposts on the woodland walk.
There is a shop on site, which is a little basic, but useful if you have forgotten anything. There is a larger shop at Oakdene, and also a Sainsburys five minutes down the road in the car. The laundry room has two large washing machines and two dryers, which came in handy for swim towels.
The showers and toilets were pretty clean, and we never had to queue. There was a good mixture of toilets, private basin cubicles and showers. The back of the shower cubicle door had a range of hooks and also a small pull down shelf. The showers were the push-button type, but they were free and the water was hot. There was also a good outdoor, sheltered, dish washing area with several sinks and again plenty of hot water.
One drawback we found was that there was no facility to re-freeze our ice packs. We could obtain frozen ones from the shop for 35p each, but we found the £2 deposit per block that was also being charged a little mind-boggling.
The only real negatives were noise related. The main road is really loud, and it doesn't seem to let up at all - even in the middle of the night. Also, even though there is a 'no noise' rule on site we suffered from noisy neighbours on the Friday night, until about 3am.
Although it's hard to find fault in most areas, and it is a great site for kids, I have to say that we would be reluctant to go back, purely because of the noise levels.

Just got back from a weekend at this site - weather was excellent so that always helps, but we had a great time.
The pitches on this site are small, and feel very cramped together. There is also a lot of road noise and you don't seem to be able to get away from it anywhere on the site, but you do get used to it. It's a shame they've put quite a few static vans at the back of the site in the quietest location! They've also got plenty of space around them, unlike the tourers.
The facilities on the site are good in nice weather. There's 2 small pools, a playground, table tennis, games room, shop - all located within a small courtyard which is great with small children as you don't keep having to go from one place to the next and can just sit and relax. There's also a ball park area where the older kids can play football.
The toilets and showers are very dated, but there were plenty of them and they seemed to be cleaned regularly so that's the main thing.
The forest walk to the sister park Oakdene is lovely. It does take quite a long time, but I'd definitely recommend it as it is really peaceful and beautiful. If not, the drive is very quick and easy too.
We went over to Oakdene a few times during our stay. The swimming pool is excellent - the best I've seen in a holiday park. It has a fantastic flume for the kids (and adults too!) as well as a sauna, steam room and spa pool.
There was evening entertainment for the kids at Oakdene which they enjoyed but it was only at the weekend. The entertainment room is very small though, so not sure if you'd be able to get in it in peak season! The kids also loved meeting Cyril the Squirell and having their picture taken with him.
There was a good 'two for one' pub just on the A31 near the campsite - very easy to walk to. It had a large garden with a play area which was excellent evening entertainment.
Would recommend a trip to Moors Valley Country Park if you have children - it has woodland walk with play, excellent play parks - a larger one for big kids and one with a castle etc in a huge sandpit for little ones, also a small railway. A great day out for everyone!

We stayed here at one of the best weeks in June the site gave us a very warm welcome,we had a huge tent which normally takes up 2 pitches, however they only charged us for 1 pitch as it was quiet.
The site has 2 outdoor pools which are manned all the time they were open.
Although a bit dated the showers were always hot and clean, and there is plenty of them.
The site has a shop a games room and a playground for the kids.It also has a bar but it wasn't open when we were there,(maybe it was out of season or something).
As others have said you get to use there sister camp 'oakdene' which is also lovely, and it has an amazing camping shop there.
You do get road noise at forest edge but its nothing we couldn't cope with.
All in all it is a really nice site if you don't mind bit of road noise, and it only cost us 70 for a weeks stay there,
We will definitely be returning.

Just had 4 night at this campsite, never again. Unless you like the sound of HGV's thundering past at night I wouldn't bother. The road noise is unbearable. The pitches are adequate but a bit small for our large tent. The facilities are dated and in need of investment. Hot water in showers and didn't have to queue. Shop was OK plenty in it, pool heated. Lots of notices with do's and don't around, I think the warden is not keen on kids bearing in mind children seemed to be blamed for everything. The walk to Oakdeane is longer than they promote on the site and wouldn't be suitable to do at night as it is through the forest. Loved the new forest but will definitely not be going back here.

This is not the 1st time I have been to this site so hope that this weekend was just teething problems being so early in the year. I hope to be writing a more favourable report after our next visit.
Overall I like the site, it is generally well kept although this weekend bins had not been emptied for a long time and were piled high and overflowing the sides, One toilet block wasn't open and the other wasn't cleaned in 4 days. Lighting on the site was another issue this time. Last year it was fine but lot's were either broken or switched off making the walk to the toilet block that was open dangerous after dark.
One of the good things with this site is that it is quiet and relaxing but you get the use of Oake Dene just 5 mins up the road. The entertainment has previously been good although the High School musical night left our children very disappointed.
As I said I like the site and going back again but hope these areas are improved next time.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Forest Edge taking our two children aged 13 and 6. This site has good facilities for the children and they enjoyed their stay. All staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a life guard at the pool side at all times and the water was checked twice daily. The showers and toilets were not bad. We were on pitch 6 adjacent to Boundary Lane and if anyone says you get use to the traffic noise they're wrong! You are close to the road the tent flaps with the gush off wind when the lorrys and cars go by. The pitches are small and you can get your tent and car on but you don't have any space for children to play outside of of your own tent. My brother who was camping on the same row was looking straight into the tent opposite and would only feel comfortable sitting away from his door

Just had four days at this lovely park, yes some parts of the shower block are a bit outdated but I believe why fix something that is not broke, they were clean and that's the main thing. The pool was lovely and warm and clean, my lot loved it. The staff were helpful, the site on a whole was quiet by eleven, yes there is traffic noise not the campsites fault but it never kept us awake, shops nearby and a great pub nearby. The sister site is now all static which was a bit of a disappointment and I noticed that some had been put on forest edge just hoping that this will not be all static because I would miss this campsite. Well done to everyone who has made this site a really nice get away.
