Just back from a week during school Easter holidays and would definitely use again. The on-site bar was shut out of high season but the site is impeccably kept, the shop okay and the staff helpful and conscientious - I saw the play equipment get a good early-morning safety check. There is a ball-games court and outdoor pools which were, naturally, out of use at the time but good facilities and organized children's activities are available at associated Oakdene which is a pleasant woodland walk or cycle ride away and there is lots to see and do in the area. But be warned, the dogs of two counties are emptied in Hurn Forest by people who are too posh to pick it up.
Forest Edge seems to drain very well and pitches are nice and level. The place is easy to find and road noise is not that bad when you're inside the van. We were in the middle of the site and not mega-far from the A31. Pub across road (former Hungry Poacher) reopened on10 April as the Woodman doing 2 for 1 main courses. Decent pub grub at bargain prices. We went twice in two days and our kids like their food. Second time there were 10 of us: four adults and kids between 7 and 16, all with decent appetites and the bill for main courses was only £40-odd. There is a bridge across the road so you can have a couple of reasonably-priced pints although they do make up some of the profit on soft drinks and desserts. Highly recommended. Just like Forest Edge. Criticisms? Showers lacked the pressure to force the shampoo through our daughters' long, thick hair and some of the liquid soap containers in the gents seemed rarely to be full, but otherwise another winning holiday at a Shorefield park.

September 2005 We booked Forest Edge for our first camping holiday to see if we would enjoy camping. The park was easy to find very clean and peaceful but as we had booked deliberately out of the main season this was to be expected. During other times it could be much busier and noisy. The campsite was very close to the busy A31 but we never really noticed as the site is well secluded by trees, only the motor bikes were a bit of a pain. The small shop on site served our needs okay, the on site bar was only open for one night before closing for the season which was a pity however the facilities close by at Oakdene were available, this was a much bigger park with lots to do and very easy to walk to by forest or main road. For camping Forest Edge our best choice as the pitch was large, flat and dry even after one heavy rainfall. The showers were excellent and clean, the only problem was my wife did not like having to press the button every few seconds for the hot showers. The washing up area was good in fact all these facilities made our first time in a tent great fun. We will be using this site again with the only change being booking an electric hook up pitch now we have seen how they work. Forest Edge is close to lots of places to visit and in good weather Bournemouth beach is the best. Now we have tried camping we will bring the kids next time as the site is safe and there is lots for them to do as well.

July 2005 Forest Edge is a really lovely campsite. Staff very helpful. Not much to do in the week on site but at weekend the pub was open. The pool was not open while we were there but looked good for the children. The toilets at forest edge were immaculate and plenty of hot water, just what you need when you are camping.
A short walk through the forest you could go and use the other shorefield complex. A much larger site, very busy. A very nice pool and slide indoors and a water area outside too. A much bigger play area for the children.
We would not hesitate to return to Forest Edge an excellent holiday we had.
Must mention places to visit Moors Valley Country Park an excellent day out with plenty to do for children of any ages.Honeybrook Farm is another lovely day out.Monkey World is a very good day out but make sure it is not a really hot day as you won`t be able to see the monkeys as they will be in the shade far away from viewing points but the childrens adventure park is not to be missed, its fantastic.

June 2005 We stayed for a few nights during half term. Our first choice of site was fully booked. We felt this site was rather expensive(£28 per night including electric which we didn't want but there were no non-electric pitches left large enough for our tent) and also found it much busier than sites we have stayed on previously. However, the majority of sites in the area seemed busy and expensive, so I suppose this just reflects the popularity of the New Forest. The road is noisy as were some of the nearby campers until around midnight (there is supposed to be silence after 11pm) - I felt a bit like we had pitched our tent in the middle of a housing estate, the only spare ground was the roadways between the rows of pitches, most of which were occupied every night.
The facilities were kept very clean and there was an enclosed ball games area next to the washing-up sinks. There are nice walks in Hurn Forest which is just across the road. We visited Oakdene once but didn't make much use of their facilities - we thought £8 for a family of four to play crazy golf was a bit steep considering how much we had already paid and that crazy golf was free for campers on a site we stayed on in Cornwall. The swimming pool looked nice but how are you supposed to dry your towels afterwards as washing lines are forbidden?
Forest Edge has a good adventure playground for children which is next to the bar, not the tent pitches!
Personally I would not want to camp there again because it was just too noisy and busy for me, but if you like to stay somewhere where there is lots for older children to do and don't mind the cost it may well suit you. They also have Eurotents for hire if you don't want to take your own.

May 2005 First time camping with our daughter (18 months) so picked a site with facilities! Very impressed with the area - level pitches, nicely laid out, compact but ample pitches. Toilets and showers very good and clean. Play area and pool well maintained.
Only downside was the very noisy road. Appears to be a magnet for stupidly noisy motorbikes. The noise did abate overnight, but was constant during the day.
The sister site, Oakdene, had excellent facilities, which we used every day. Of course, you pay for the facilities in the price of your pitch!

July 2005 We booked this site in advance and had booked for a 4 night stay, the price for off peak is excellent only 7.50pn which covered a group of 2 adults and 2 kids (which was us)the site is very conveniently located just of the A31 which is great for a base to explore from. The obvious downside for this convenience is the road noise, although this is an A road it joins directly onto the M27 and is seen as an extension of the motorway, the traffic continues to travel between 60-80mph it is very loud, we had arrived on a sunday and the noise level did not drop until after midnight and we were woken up by it at 6 in the morning. We decided to move sites asap and transferred over to forest park. Despite the noise the site was ok, clean and tidy with good facilities

June 2005 We Visited Forrest Edge over the weekend of the 25th, and had an excellent stay. The facilities were very clean with ample toilet and washing up facilities. The larger Oakdene site is minutes away with a reasonable sized (if shallow) pool and sauna. A nearby pub (The Hungry Poacher) serves standard pub grub on the usual large colourfull laminated menu, the quality is good though, and the portions immense. Can Reccomend this site, didn't find proximity to the nearby A31 too bad, although it was busy most of the time.
The site staff were very friendly and the place is well organised, will be going back.

August 2004 My husband, myself and four children - no space to play outside the tent. The toilets were cleaned every day, but the soap dispensers remained empty all week. The small bar was nice, right next to play area. Barman very polite and chid friendly. The play area was enclosed but could do with being two separate play areas for older and younger children. Our three youngest enjoyed the sandy football area, even if it did cause some rather nasty staining to clothing. Had a day trip to Bournemouth which we all loved. Swam in the clear sea which remains shallow for some way out. So safe for little ones. We did hear quite a bit of noise from the road but that did'nt bother us too much.

August 2004 A very warm and friendly welcome as soon as we arrived. Our pitch was too far away from the children’s play areas so we asked if we could possibly move. Of course we could, nothing reasonable is too much trouble at this site. We moved pitches and the lady from the site office came to make doubly sure we were happy with the alternative, of course we were!
We had glorious weather and the children used the swimming pool every chance they could. It was closed a couple of times for cleaning but I would prefer it to be clean rather than a tent full of children with colds or upset tummies. The boys lost their football and the warden gave them one that he had. we reported a wasp nest next to our pitch and it was dealt with immediately and without fuss.
The facilities available at the Oakdene site are included in the pitch price and in addition to the two the swimming pools Oakdene also has a Jacuzzi,, steam room and sauna (which kept the wife very happy). The New Forest is right outside the site entrance, great for walks or to cycle through.
On the recommendation of the site warden we ventured out one day to Moores Valley Country Park, only 10 mins drive away. It was fantastic !!! We will have to return just to visit the country park again !!
In summary, great location, very friendly and helpful, facilities are well maintained and CLEAN, just right for a family with children up to age of 13, very safe and very good value for money !

11th-13th June 2004 A warm and friendly welcome was received upon arrival and we were given our site booklet and passes to the nearby Oakdene Park (didn't use them). Our's was a standard pitch and we were located in the top right hand corner of the site which meant we weren't close to the main road so road noise wasn't a problem. The pitch cost £10 per night with no extras. The outdoor pool was open despite being told it wouldn't be and it looked very inviting (clean and heated). The shower blocks are basic but clean and we didn't have to queue for a shower. Plenty of toilets and wash basins. Worth reading the site rules as these seemed to be strictly applied, especially the use of disposable BBQ's (not allowed). Well managed, clean & tidy, lovely flat site, good on-site shop, great surroundings for a family - we'll be going again.
