What can I say that has not been said already. We have had two previous visits to this site and have thoroughly enjoyed them all, the wardens may change but the Caravan Club standards remain. Never too far to one of the two amenity blocks, a little dated (by CC standards) but very good nevertheless, water points/waste disposal points aplenty.
The site is pretty much flat and nestled in an old quarry, protected on three sides by the old quarry faces, the highest side being the one deflecting the prevailing westerly wind 'up and over the top' yet unlike many CC sites, Scarborough (West Ayton) is not dominated by over shadowing trees, plenty of greenery yet lots of grassed areas around pitches to sit and soak up the sun (when it appears).
Short walk to the village, massive SPAR store (with fuel), post office, open 5. 5 days per week, fish and chip shop, open 5 nights per week plus some lunchtimes, Pharmacy, 5 days per week, two pubs, one long term favourite 'The Dennison', which sadly is now very run down and no longer value for money, and 'Ye Olde Forge Valley Inn' which has had a £160, 000 make over since out last visit and under new management is now serving excellent food in lovely surroundings.
Buses every hour during the day to Scarborough (15 minutes) and Pickering (30 minutes) and onto Helmsley, both lovely market towns.
Huge play area for the kids, a good dog walk, as dog walks go on sites and the one on site leads from a gate onto unlimited dog walking into Forge Valley and beyond, a most beautiful valley by the way and not to be missed.
Walking ( dogs allowed) : The 'boardwalk', which is through the field where the castle is located and along the meadow, is an absolute gem, it runs, slighty elevated, alogside the river Derwent for it's entire length, do not fail to walk it. (from the site turn left out of the entrance, 300 yards to the junction, turn left and after 100 yards turn left again into 'Castle Rise') then either up to the bridge and back or make it a loop by climbing the 'staircase' of steps which bring you to the top overlooking forge valley and the 'Yorkshire Wolds' towards the south, followed by an easy walk back to the site.

Just had our second stay in six months at this lovely site 4 miles outside of Scarborough. Site is upto the usual Caravan Club standard with immaculate toilet/shower/washing up facilities, always plenty of hot water.
Pitches are well spaced out with grass in between, tree lined perimeters making for a sheltered spot.
Easy 10 minutes walk to a Spar shop/Garage/Pub/Tea room/Fish and Chip shop/restaurant. Regular bus to Scarborough at a cost of £4. 10 day return. Also bus to Pickering.
Last Friday evening of every month at Hackness Village Hall (4 miles away) is Live Entertainment costing £5 each, take your own drinks/food. Fantastic atmosphere, starting 8pm prompt, finished by 10. 30pm. Well worth a visit.
We will be returning to this site later in the year(maybe on a lower season tarrif), tad expensive for two people the week before easter (still in March).

Just returned from a 4 day visit to this site. Enjoyed it so much. Site is immaculate, the grass areas perfect, trees and plants so well looked after. The pitches are mostly hard standing and flat. Some are tight to get in and out of but fine with a mover. The facilities although a little dated are kept immaculate. There is a lovely play field for the children and a couple of play parks. Very easy to visit Scarborough and surrounding areas. Lovely site, peaceful, relaxing will definitely be back.

We made an unscheduled stop for 6 nights at this site on our tour of Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Derbyshire after leaving early from a non caravan club site in Cayton where standards of cleanliness and care were far below what we expect from a site.
We were made very welcome by the wardens on our arrival at West Ayton and were helped to find adjacent pitches as we were travelling with friends with their caravan.
It is quite a large picturesque site on 3 levels with two immaculate toilet and shower blocks. The whole site was clean, neat and tidy and included a large recreation field, games room, children's play area and large dog walk, probably one of the best on site dog walks that we have been to.
I was very impressed to see the wardens scrubbing the waste water and dustbin areas at 7. 30 in the morning as I was walking to the dog walk in fact was very impressed with all of their hard work to keep the park in 1st class order and also their good humour.
The site is about 5 miles away from the heart of Scarborough in a nice quiet area away from the hustle and bustle with plenty of local shops and eating places.
It is definitely a place that we will visit again as it is a site that the wardens and Caravan Club must be very proud of.

Tried to book on the coast at the last minute with no luck so thought we'd try West Ayton. A really nice site with well laid out pitches. As usual with CC sites the facilities were spotless and more than adequate. Also the Wardens and staff were welcoming and worked hard to keep the site clean and tidy. There are two play areas for kids but these aren't so good for toddlers, more for school age. The site isn't too far from the coast and is well sheltered by trees.
Nice local area with a shop, petrol, chippy and pubs in the local village just a short walk away. Quite a bit of walking from the door, which we like.
We really liked this site and will return. If the weather is good you'd probably want to head for a site on the coast however this is definitely a good base.

This only our second site we have visited and what a gem. Lovely Site, all wardens were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The toilets were very clean, There are pubs with great food in the village and a fish and chip shop. And there are lots of places to visit close by to visit. The spar at the petrol garage good for all supplies, Morrisons a few miles away, Tesco in Scarborough.
We will be returning next year

Shop is quite good has most items you want to put you on. Good dog walking area maybe a bit bigger. Pitches all ok plenty of room. Love the cliff top walks. Maybe a little more info on local places to visit. Local pub with good food very close by. See you all again. Soon.

We visited this site for our annual 2 week holiday, What can I say its a caravan club site and as you would expect it is up to the high standard one would expect from the CC. The site is quite large and is on two levels all neatly laid out with both grass and hardstanding pitches. We noticed though that the wind was quite strong on the upper levels where pitches were near to the access road for the larger play park, resulting in the need to use tiedown straps for the awning. We also noticed that being just that little bit inland made a difference to the weather compared to being at sea level in Scarborough, it was usually a bit cooler and cloudier.
The site has 3 play parks for kids, 1st with a large field and adventure playground and a pool and table tennis room, 2nd a smaller typical playground with climbing frame and slide etc, and a 3rd for the more younger which is smaller climbing apparatus and a slide, all are in excellent condition. A dog walk is also provided, which is large. Walking routes to the forge valley river and Ayton castle are also available from the CC site.
The site is approx 5 mls from Scarborough, which is a typical seaside town, we enjoyed it but there are the usual fish bars, arcades, etc, however the parks are excellent and visit to Peasholm park is a must. Parking in Scarborough is a nightmare, but you can get a 2hr parking disc from the CC Site.
Whitby, Filey and Bridlington are all within easy reach. Whitby is a must with its narrow lanes and harbour and abbey along with the magpie fish and chip restaurant. Whilst Filey is OK and Bridlington are a bit tired and in need of some re-vitalisation and a paint job.
There is a Morrisons in Seamer 4mls from the site and a Tesco and Sainsbury's in Scarborough. We found prices in the area to be quite a bit cheaper than down south, for daily activities and things for hte kids to do.
All in all and enjoyable holiday and well worth another visit to do things we never got chance to do.

This caravan site is everything you would expect from a caravan club site, the reception was efficient & friendly, the toilet block was clean & warm & there were plenty of dogs. The site is 5 miles from Scarborough so you need your car but the village looked quite nice but we never went. All in all the site is nice without ever achieving the WOW factor, as I said earlier a typical caravan club site.

Originally booked to stay here at the beginning of May but had to change our booking to the last week of May and how lucky we were, the weather was great. We set off early thinking the weather would bring out all the day trippers especially on the A64 but only one 10 minute hold up, so arrived a few minutes early. We have never arrived before booking in time so wasn’t sure if we would be allowed in, no need to worry the wardens were lovely and giving us a nice warm welcome. This site is large, 164 pitches, and the map provided was quite daunting if you had never been before. Even after a few days we were still a little confused as to where some of the grass pitches were, pitch numbers suddenly appearing at the end of the week. We pitched behind the top toilet block, only negatives, there was no access to the male toilet block or service points you had to walk through and around the front, also the trees blocked the afternoon sun. The site was very quiet during our stay, not school holiday period, lots of dogs which was not a problem. Good dog walk, next to a huge playing field. Toilet block, dated but spotless.
Out and about
Town within walking distance remember to save yourself for the walk back up the rather steep hill. We visited the Denison Arms which seemed quite popular, serving basic pub grub. There is a fish and chip shop near the petrol station, fish was greasy. Walkers Fish restaurant always looked empty, we thought we would give it a try as they had a nice outdoor patio area but unfortunately we were not welcome as we had two small dogs with us.
Great drive over to the Whitby; never get fed up of visiting this wonderful place. Filey is only a short drive from the site, this is another place were you feel like you have gone back in time. We had a lovely stroll along the spotlessly clean sea front. Then a visit to the very touristy Scarbough, this place never changes, lots of cafes, rock stalls and arcades.
