We spent a week over Easter at West Ayton and liked the site. We drove round twice looking for a good pitch and eventually chose one fairly near reception.
Pitches are all a good size and the site is nicely laid out in different areas. There are some grass pitches but these were closed during our stay as the ground was too wet. We had problems with the electricity keep going off when all three caravans supplied by the bollard were in use. You could be watching the TV, the people in the next van came back in turned their kettle on and the power went off in all three units. The wardens had to turn the power back on several times and this continued throughout our stay. An electrician came out to look at the bollard on our last day, the problem wasn't fixed and the site put closed signs on all three pitches to prevent them being used after our departure. This did put a dampener on things.
The wash facilities are dated but were always spotlessly clean, there was always plenty of hot water too. The dish washing facilities were also very clean and tidy.
There is a wooden shed near reception with leaflets in, some of them have money off vouchers (we got the kids in to Camp Eden free with one voucher and parking at Dalby Forest was reduced too using a voucher).
We used the site as a base to explore the area and found the site well located for this.
We ate at the Dennison Arms on a Friday evening, having booked a table. On arrival the place was packed and they had no record of our booking but squeezed us in. The food whilst huge portions is greasy and deep fried on the whole. I found a large piece of plastic in my pudding to which I was told 'oh yes we've had that before!'. No apologies whatsoever. Throughout the meal people turned up looking for tables so depending on where you sit you may end up with queues of people standing next to your table. We would not eat there again. I spent most of the night sat up with terrible indigestion and heartburn. We used the Spar in the village most days, it had a good range and prices were ok.
To sum up the site is well located, nice and quiet and of the usual high CC standard (barring the problems with the electrics!)

Good site tucked away from A 170 road into Scarborough. Facilities are standard C C & are clean and well presented as you would expect at C C sites.
We visited the last weekend before it closes but there were about 30 other units present. There had been heavy rain in the area for several days prior to our visit but it wasn't a problem as all pitches are hardstandings.
Staff at reception were very friendly & helpful recommending Denison Arms for evening meal during visit and also providing menu. Their recommendation was good. We had a 3 course tea time special, great value at £10 p.p.
My only criticism is that the site is only sign posted on the A170 as you travel from the direction of Scarborough. There is no sign post when travelling from Pickering towards Scarborough, which would be helpful as turning around with a twin axle caravan is not easy!

This was the first site we ever visited when we started caravanning and we love it. It's on the outskirts of a pleasant little village and is ideal for visiting Scarborough and the other east coast resorts and also picturesque inland towns like Helmsley and Thornton le Dale.
Two spotlessly clean shower blocks up to the usual CC standards and lots of trees and shrubs giving it a very rural feel, a massive dog walk and a children's playground.
Don't miss the Denison Arms about 15 minutes walk away in West Ayton village, they serve wonderful food and the portions are huge.
This is a site we'll return to year after year.

Great site. Civilised atmosphere & very well maintained. Friendly, helpful staff & good facilities. Proper showers for once (none of the dreaded push button versions). CC members only & no tents allowed.
Not all access routes are suitable for caravans, so don't trust your satnav!
4 miles into Scarborough by bus. Subsidised fare is £2. 10 for adults & kids go free. Bus stop a pleasant 10min walk from site. Timetable at reception.
Denison Arms excellent for food. Good value too, but need to reserve or get there early. Menu at campsite reception. Kids welcome.
Nice area for walking & cycling.
Long TV cable essential, as reception very poor - cable £14 to buy from reception!
Overall, we'll be back!

The site was very easy to find but make sure you follow the signs from West Ayton village one of the roads to the site is unsuitable for caravans.
Wardens where very helpful and friendly nothing seemed to much trouble and the Onsite shop sold the basic essentials.
The site itself is to the usual high CC standards the one exception being the two toilet blocks which seemed a little dated but where spotlessly clean.
You will also need a aerial lead to run to the hook up bollards as there's very poor TV reception.
The site is ideal for Scarborough with a service bus
From the village or drive down to the park & ride site (route in the info shed).
The village has two pubs the Deniston arms & Forge Valley both serve excellent food but the Deniston Arms doesn't allow dogs inside the Forge Valley only in the back room.
All in all a very good site and one we will be visiting again.

Just spent 12 days on this site and on the whole really enjoyed it. It was a bigger site than we usually stay on but still very friendly. The facilities were good and kept nice and clean.
Small dog walk but with a large field opposite the site where the dogs could be let off the lead for a run this wasn't a problem.
A good place to eat is the Olde Forge Inn in West Ayton-good food and very friendly atmosphere.

What can I say about this site that hasn't already been said. We stayed for 8 nights in July and were blessed with glorious weather (apart from hail stones on the day we arrived). The site was full every night but you wouldn't think so as it was so quiet.
The dog walks around the site, as has been mentioned, can be extended down to the river Derwent through the trees (slightly precarious).
The fish shop is only open Mon through Thurs but absolutely delicious. The Dennison Arms is a nice pub although we didn't try the meals we seen some being transported by the staff and they were HUGE. The pub unfortunately is not dog friendly. The beach at Scarborough has dog restrictions on the main part but if you go to the south bay they are allowed on there.
The spar shop is brilliant for emergency supplies although a touch pricey but the diesel was cheaper than Morrissons 5 mile away.
First visit but definitely not the last.

This is an excellent site, and easy to understand why it is regularly fully booked at weekends.
All facilities are up to the usual CC standards, 2 toilet / shower blocks, both immaculate and well placed.
Wardens very friendly and helpful, the pitches are mainly hardstanding, with a few on grass, pitches are very large, and easily accommodate caravan / awning and car - all looked to be fairly level.
There are 2 play areas, and a very good dog walking area, the village is a downhill 15 minute walk from the site, and you will find the usual amenities, including Petrol station with a large Spar supermarket, Fish restaurant, and a couple of take aways.
The area around the site is very picturesque with views across the open countryside, well situated for visits to Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Thirsk, Pickering.
Highly recommended - will return (If we can get a reservation)

What a fantastic site. From the first point of contact on our arrival the Wardens where very helpful and friendly. We where advised of the baby/toddler bathroom, exceptionally clean with small bath and toilet, and offered several pitches to choose from that where in easy proximity of this facility. The main toilet blocks where adjoined to here and again where constantly monitored for cleanliness as was the whole site.
The pitches where of a generous size able to cater for a car, caravan and full awning, all on hard-standing, so take plenty of rock pegs!
We have 2 children under 5 and they loved the play parks, certainly plenty for young families to do on site. There was also a large playing field for ball games but eldest son spent most of his time on the scramble net and climbing frame.
The site shop was well stocked with the essentials and had plenty of ice cream, good job since it was so warm. The nearest supermarket was the Spar in the village a short drive away, c. 5minutes and stocked everything you needed. The site is in easy reach of Scarborough/Filey/Whitby and North Yorks Moors and an ideal base for a relaxing break. We would certainly recommend this site to anyone and will be making a return visit in the future.
In all a relaxing site to visit, with lots to do in the area and if blessed with good weather, what more can you want.

We were delighted to finally get booked to come to West Ayton. The site came highly recommended by a fellow caravanner on another Caravan Club site. Its usually fully booked.
We arrived at five and were really surprised at how empty it was! We were able to pick our pitch and managed to site right infront of the small children's park. There was also a large park suitable for older children and a games room hidden away with two pool tables (£5 deposit from reception)
There are two shower blocks but the one nearest us had been closed as they'd had some issues from the severe weather back end of last year. We were aware of this on booking in and it was only a short walk away so this wasn't an issue. The wardens were about and even opened the washing up area for me whilst they were tending to the loo block. They did open up the annexe for use on the Saturday night so there was then a toilet and two showers per sexed annex.
The site is well laid out and the park and ride to Scarborough is only a 5 minute car journey away, priced at £2 per adult and £1 per child is reasonable in our opinion.
The wardens were all very polite and knowledgeable about the area and thanks to the site being quiet we had a very relaxing and peaceful visit. We didn't visit any local pubs or the fish and chip shop in West Ayton itself but it did come highly recommended.
I hope we can fluke another visit very soon. And hope they do get their well deserved upgrade for the blocks as I understand they are five years beyond their promised date of renovation (not they are in any way shabby, just dated) but lovely and clean.
