We stayed with Brain and Diane for four nights over the bank holiday weekend. We are a group of adult friends without children (hence the N/A score for children).
They were very friendly and approachable and the only thing that went wrong was the hot water running out on Monday afternoon, which Brian fixed in five minutes.
They are keen on recycling, with a multitude of bins available. The vouchers were welcomed and free sausages at the butchers in Verwood were delicious (a range of vouchers are emailed on booking).
The turning to the campsite can easily be missed. Look out for it after passing the heavy horse centre (if approaching from Verwood) - it is a track on the next left hand bend.
The track itself is heavily rutted, so needs to be navigated with care, especially if you're planning to take a caravan. We did bottom out at one point when fully loaded.
Although the grass in the camping field was long, it did dry quickly and there were no boggy or muddy areas, with plenty of space in the site.
One negative point was the chickens, which free-ranged around our cars and tents, something that would be unhygienic in cooking areas.
The location - for walking and cycling couldn't be better. We hardly used the car all weekend, straight off the site circular walks of 5 - 10 miles were easily found, taking in a mixture of open rolling countryside and woodland with panoramic views to the south at Steven's Castle.
The washing up facilities were good although one of the taps is slow running. The showers were 50p for a good length of time, (meters in the shower cubicles).
The walk to the pub, advertised at 15 mins in the site description is somewhat optimistic in my view. A fast-paced 25 minutes and a more steady 30-35 minutes along the bridleway is more realistic. It was muddy in places but perfectly manageable in daylight, however, we didn't attempt it after dark.
Overall, I agree with other reviewers, the site owners couldn't be more helpful, some improvement to the track leading to the site would be beneficial and I would recommend the site to a friend. Location scores 8 out of 10 simply because I prefer a drink to be a little more in reach in the evening.

Having spent a relaxing weekend at Hillside we would heartily agree with the other reviews. The location was in the midst of Ringwood Forest which offer plenty of walking and cycling routes, unfortunately due to very heavy rain the trail through to Verwood was flooded so we used the road route to town, still a pleasant cycle. Also mentioned is the discount at the local butchers but there is also an agreement for Free sausages which are heartily recommended and definitely a reason to return to the site. Brian & Diane were both very helpful & friendly and we will be trying out the fresh eggs when we return.
The showers had plentiful hot water but as also mentioned the otherwise acceptable facilities could do with a bit of TLC in preparation for the new season.
We will definitely be returning in the new year and would recommend it to anyone wanting a peaceful time

We have just got back from a relaxing break at Hillside. It is a lovely, fairly small site with friendly owners who are helpful with places to visit, vouchers for local butchers and a pub which are emailed before arrival, and even fresh eggs from their hens on site!
Most of the site is fairly flat, but also has some sloped areas with large pitches, although we were pitched under some trees where the acorns kept falling off on to our tent, which was a little noisy, but once we realised what it was, went a bit deaf to them!
The same went for the Cockerel, the owls and the cows - it was lovely though, as it reminded us what a beautiful place we were lucky enough to stay in (in fact 150, 000 acres of loveliness!-great for walking the dog).
There are showers and toilets and a washing up area, all quite sufficient, but could maybe do with modernising, but plenty of hot water at all hours of the day.
A mile away is the small town which has Coffee shops, Tesco, Coop and the best Fish and Chips I have ever had!
The beach, which we didn't get to but other people did, was only about 30 mins (if that) away.
The road leading up to campsite is very holey and muddy - no problem if you drive very slowly and the sign isn't particularly obvious, but very small negatives really. I would recommend this site, but will try other ones in the New Forest, just to experience different areas.

We swapped our caravan for a tent and went on our first outing with in-trepidation. The site owners were very friendly and helpful, supplying us each day with ice-blocks for our cool box. If we left it they come to see if we needed to swap them over.
On arrival we were given a welcome pack and map of the local area. We used this most days walking into the local town discovering short cuts that were not included on the map.
The woods are vast I would advise the use of a OS map the scenery is lovely and each time we walked a different route finding something new.
The toilets and showers were old but clean and the individual shower rooms seems a good idea accommodating all in a diverse society. The washing-up area is kept tidy and they supply the facilities here too which I thought was a nice gesture.
I would come back to the site again and recommend it to others.

After camping at this site 3 times I felt I needed to send review.
I stayed there for the recent time in early June and could and can not praise Brain and Diane enough. When we arrived on the Friday we were given the correct pitches as we had family who had never camped with us before and they fulfilled all of our requested requirements ie nice pitches electric close to toilets etc. They greeted us with enthusiasm and friendliness that can not be faulted.
They gave our small welcome pack with all the discounts for the local shops and maps of all the walks in the area
The facilities basic as the were are more than ample for us as campers as we do not enjoy big sites and everywhere was clean tidy and very hot, even the washing up area was clean and pleasant.
The site/pitches are always very clean and even with the little rain that we had it was still easy to move about and the children could play easily.
They do sell a few items ie gas soft drinks etc but the shops are not to far to either drive to or if you feel like a nice walk then this is very enjoyable.
The final point is that on the Sunday when we were due to leave the heavens opened and was set in for the day, with this in mind and with my inexperienced campers I asked Brian if I could leave my tents over night and collect the following day. I was prepared to pay for this but both insited on no charge which was great. So homeward bound we went and came back the following day where Diane helped in taking tents down and just reminding me to come back soon
Conclusion, great site great facilities and great owners.

I have just returned from a 3 night stay at Verwood. It was my first trip out this year and I thought the site was lovely. I was a bit worried about the road noise but, apart from when I was actively listening for it, I didn't notice it at all. The woods which are reached via the dog walk are really lovely. The wardens were very helpful. The showers were amazing - really powerful and always hot. A very good washing up area. It was the week before the half term break so it was fairly quiet and I can't be sure how the showers would cope if it was full. I didn't buy anything from the shop but it looked like it had quite a good selection of essentials.
The whole area is very dog friendly.
I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely little site. Nicely tucked away, but close enough to take a meandering walk to the town of Verwood down a back track. Friendly and helpful owner. Lovely showers (only 2 but seemed ample) with plenty of hot water. Plenty of room for the kids to ride their bikes & play games. Site had a net up for ball games, which we found very useful.
This is a site I would recommend for a nice little break!

A really lovely site, at reasonable rates - perfect for families with children, with lots of space for them to play. No play facilities other than a badminton net and a hammock, but I think that's an advantage. Despite the campsite seeming pretty full, we didn't queue for showers once, and they were kept clean and were powerful and hot. A Tesco Express is local, and approximately 10 - 15 mins car drive away, there's a Sainsburys, Waitrose and Iceland. Surrounding walks are beautiful and Moors Valley country park is well worth a visit, particularly as you can hire bikes at a reasonable price. Dawn chorus and farm noises are just part of the atmosphere! A most enjoyable stay - looking forward to returning soon.

Just reading our reviews for last year and wanted to thank our guests for their kind words and comments.
We read with interest and act upon your constructive criticisms as best we can. As a result, this year, we have reduced our pitches by 25%, therefore, hopefully, reducing the strain on our facilities. This will also give you more room and more recreational space to enjoy.
It is lovely and peaceful here, the usual sounds just being the birds and the farm next door.
We would like to wish you all a lovely year camping and hope to see you return to Hillside very soon.

We visited this site for a weekend in the middle of Feb. The site is in a lovely spot, with excellent dog walks on the doorstep. Brian made us very welcome. We had some initial snags with the water supply, but Brian did his best to sort these out and was very apologetic. One word of warning - despite assurances that the local indian 'Kunci' could deliver to the site, they took 3.5 hours to deliver our order. We had cancelled when it had not arrived in 2.5 hours but they turned up anyway! This was despite many phonecalls in the interim assuring us itwas on its way! However this does not reflect on Brian, who was as apologetic as ever and tried to intervene on our behalf.
In summary, a lovely site out in the sticks with space for kids to run around and great dog walks.
