We have stayed at this camp site now nearly every year for the last 7/8 years because we enjoy it very much. You are never squashed together and have plenty of your own space. We all camp round the edge so the children get to play in the middle, so sorry you can't lose them. All the children tend to play together in the evening, whether it is rounders or cricket or football etc. and sometimes there is even a show or 2. Children have to settle down after 9 but after running around all evening isn't a problem. We have already booked up for this years dates as the site is getting very popular, so I would get booking now.

Just to confirm what others have said, a cheap site although it is a C&CC CS so you should either join prior to or while you are there. The showers work well at showering everything in the room, except your body, so take care, but they are hot and free. Two main loos but a couple more in another building further up, but not signed. We had to queue sometimes but not for long. Kids loved it and were out till it was dark, the atmosphere was really friendly. I would say though that while we were there the 9pm curfew wasn't strictly applied as ours were out till later than that on some nice evenings.
The pitch we chose was really sheltered (ideal coz the wind really howled a couple of nights) but we did get bombarded by acorns instead. The ground never looked more than damp, the downside being the grass looked worse for wear.
Just one word of caution, I found that my daughter had been bitten by a tick while she was there and although she hasn't been ill yet they can carry some nasty diseases (Lyme disease being one) so just be aware. (something to consider for any woodland site though).

Having had a totally diabolical camping trip last time out and camping with a partner who has only had bad experiences, this holiday was approached with great apprehension. However, we had a great time. The site was great with nice sized pitches, provided a safe environment for children to play in and no noise of cars, although we did hear the occasional plane and helicopter. I don't think our exhaust added to the tranquil environment - our apologies! Yes the toilets are dated and unfortunately the showers broke down towards the end of our stay, but the site and the local knowledge of the owners more than made up for this. We saved a fortune by following some of Brian's suggestions for days out. Would love to go back again - would go back tomorrow if we could.

If you like the sound of a holiday on a peaceful, spacious site, surrounded by woodland, with owls to send you to sleep and cockerels and peacocks to wake you, and with plenty to do within a ten mile radius, then read on. We just spent an unforgettable week as guests of the friendly owners, Brian and Margaret, who are a happy to share their knowledge of the surrounding area. The site is full of children but is somehow very peaceful, and the 9 pm curfew is strict. My kids made loads of friends and because of the layout of the pitches - around the perimeter - you never feel that your pitch space is invaded by children. The on site facilities are basic, and as the site was full (although with around 28 pitches over 5 acres it never appeared full) you did sometimes have to queue for a loo in the morning! If you're looking for immaculate, state of the art facilities then you need to go to one of the 700 pitch "cram them in" sites of which there are many in the New Forest, but if you want a taste of real friendly camping and an "is it or isn't it hot water today?" lottery, then this quirky site is the one. There's so much to do and see locally, you never need drive more than just a few miles and we feel like we only scratched the surface of the area in a week. A lot of the wild ponies are very tame and even the foals loved to have their ears scratched, so my horse mad kids were in heaven. The Heavy Horse Centre, right next door is also a great day out. We'll definitely be returning.

This is our second camping holiday. The site was great for our young family - the kids could play safely in the middle and could visit their new 'best friend's' tents because it is a small site and we knew where they were all the time. Lovely walks around the site, screech owls, peacocks, cockerels, badgers etc The kids stopped playing at 9pm 'ish' every night which was great for us re peace and quiet. The loos and showers are not great BUT it didn't really matter. Don't come if you want all mod cons. The owner is eccentric and helpful - we like that. A good time was had by all!

I hadn't been camping since my teens and approached this with a little less enthusiasm than my partner. I had a vision of how the perfect weekend would look and Hillside went a long way to fulfilling that. The site is a picture of tranquility, off the beaten track, surrounded by woodland and hosted by the very charismatic Brian.
If you're looking for on-site entertainment and luxury you're best looking elsewhere but we went camping for a change from all this and it was an excellent weekend. If you have children with imagination and a desire to adventure and explore this is superb as the woodland rolls on for miles, the farmer next door was happy to demonstrate hand milking his cows and the Heavy Horse Centre within walking distance was great.
As novices Brian was able to offer some advice, point us in the direction of supplies and even threw in a load of free sausages for breakfast.
Okay, so the toilets and showers were a little limited but they were clean and hot. Great location, looking forward to spending a week next time. Many thanks.

Small but very pretty sheltered site for those who truly want to get away from it all. The downsides are the showers and loo's which are basic but there's aways plenty of hot water; Also the gravel track leading up to the site has a few pot holes which need to be taken with care especially if your towing.
Good points are that its a well drained site, very peaceful, with no traffic noise from the real world. It has the loudest dawn chorus I have ever experience along with a wide variety of Birds like Buzzards and Owls to Deer's in the surrounding forest which can be seen around dusk. Kids were bored when we first pitched up but at the end of the week loved the place.
Brian the host is very knowledgeable of things to do and see around the area. Will return!

First time there with our new trailer tent. What a lovely quiet site. Lots of wild life around the area such as foxes, badgers, owls and other birds. Brian is a very nice man who likes to make sure you are having a pleasant stay. Not much for the kids to do but then you may not stay on this kind of site if you want family entertainment.

Very pleasant site with ample room for each pitch. The only downside was the toilet/shower block - basic and needing proper curtains at the windows ! I would highly recommend though as the area is beautiful with lots of walks and bike rides from the campsite. Would visit again.

This is the first time I have been to this Campsite and it sure will not be the last. Brian who own's this campsite is very helpful and always has a smile on his face, and he serves tea or coffee to all of his Guests. The campsite is small but it is a FRIENDLY campsite and thats what I like. The Facilites are very very close and always has hot water. The town centre (Verwood is close by (5 minutes Drive) and has all the shops I could think of inc safeway's/morrisons.
