We had a four night stay here with our 2 dogs and loved it.

The facilities were basic and were cleaned daily. We didn't have to queue for the toilet or shower even when the site was busy. The pitches are well spaced out and even when the site was busy it did not feel crowded. The owner Brian was very friendly and helpful.

Even though dogs have to be on a lead on site, this was not a problem as there are miles of forest tracks just behind the campsite. The wildlife in the forest is good too.

Although the site is quiet and feels like it is the middle of nowhere, Verwood is not far away, and you can have Indian take away or Pizza delivered to your pitch. We thought the vouchers for a free 1lb of sausages, and 10% off of everything else from the local butcher were an excellent idea, a good way of encouraging people to shop locally.

We found the site a very relaxing place to be and hope to stay here again soon.

My husband and I have just returned from a three night stay at Hillside. It is in a perfect position for touring the surrounding area. The owners are really helpful and approachable.

The facilities are basic, but we saw them being cleaned daily and we only had to queue once for each of toilet / shower / washing up. Hot water was available all day and we can find no fault with the showers.

The site is very child and dog friendly, and the 9pm curfew was observed by all. The nearest shops are in Verwood, and the owners will supply vouchers for discounts etc in some of them.
We will definitely return to Hillside because of the friendly atmosphere and good value for money.

Ann and myself have spent two lovely weeks at Hillside. We were with two friends in the adjoining caravan. The environment is superb and the facilities more than adequate. I would suggest that whoever complained to the CCC about the facilities whilst we were there should book into the Hilton next time because they were not campers or caravanners. The showers are hot and strong and the loos more than adequate. The squirrel and Robin that joined us in our caravan for breakfast liked the place as well. Well done Brian & Margaret. Don't let anyone spoil it for us.

I arrived on my bike in the pouring rain looking very bedraggled. Despite ( because?) of this I was invited into the owners house for tea! Allow a good 15 mins for booking in/chat/directions. Site seems well drained – it had poured all day but it is mainly slightly sloping. The level pitches are under trees which I try to avoid ( but I was still badly bitten by midges - I have never packed up a tent quite as quickly and had breakfast elsewhere – take insect repellent)

The site is lovely woodland setting back to basics place tucked in the woods – 2 loos / 2 showers and one washing up point. As there were only 5 or six families on site this was not a problem. The facilities are dated ( scruffy to be honest) but serviceable – took me a couple of attempts to get under the shower though - too hot for once and not adjustable.

No shop, but Verwood – all the food shops you could need - is only 10 mins away on a bike – I tried the track but on my tourer it was virtually impassable given the rain and turned round after 2 – 300m.

Good value at £5 (discount for rain!)for a cyclist and, if like me you like the basic sort of site – the midges might be a decider though.

Virwood C&C Club site is what we have come to expect from all the C.C.C. Sites. Very good in all departments. It also as a small but well built play area with safety bark on the ground, and is positioned in the centre of the lower field well away from the roads.

The management team are helpful, friendly, and nothing seems too much trouble for them.

There are good pitches in both fields for tent and all weather pitches for vans, motor vans, most pitches are slightly sloping, perfect for tents.

The site is approx 1 mile from the town of Verwood

On the Camborne, Ringwood road, Camborne side opposite the golf course.

It is a good site for touring all the new forest towns, and for the south coast beaches.

It also as a very good dog walk through a few miles of marked route woodland, and is very dog friendly both managers have their own dogs.

Hillside is the kind of place that put's a spell on you!
We stayed here for a few day's and were lucky enough to have great weather most of the time as well as lot's of relaxation, and we just didn't want to leave!
The site owner's Brian (a really charasmatic friendly gentleman) and his wife Margaret have managed to make this glorious site feel like an extension of their charming family bungalow, we were greeted by Brian on arrival with a 'Thank you so much for coming', which was really nice, and not something you hear at many site's these day's. We were given a voucher to get free sausages at the local butcher's in Verwood(delicous!), and map's and information about the area which was great.

The pitch's are spacious and only around the outside so you don't feel crammed in, but the best thing about this site are the enchanting peaceful view's, and relaxing old-fashioned happy atmosphere.

The only sound effect's were the lovely horses neighing in the adjoining little field. The visit's from the friendly chirping Robin's, and many other bird's whose bird song was amazing(especially the dawn chorus!) The butterfly's fluttering about, the rabbit's and squirrel's scurrying round. The cockerel who we loved to hear in the morning, and the sheep, duck's, and cow's quacking, mooing, and baaing in the farm next door.
It really is out of this world!

The toilet's were basic but adequate, the shower's were lovely and hot and were free. There were only two toilet's that I could see, and two shower's so it may be a queue in high season!
If you are looking for mod con's and perfect facilities this site is not for you, but if you are looking for a truly special back to nature warm and welcoming site that is full of character then this is a real gem! As you can tell we will be back! Well done Brian and Margaret!

What a great site! Easy access and plenty of room when we went, although there was a caravan rally on at the same time. The toilets were the cleanest I have seen at a site. Lovely people who ran or helped at the site. We took our Westie and there were plenty of walks straight from the tent. Handy for New Forest, Portsmouth, Southampton and all the Hampshire/Wiltshire coast. Marks out of 10 - gotta be 9!

Visited the site in August with 2 tents, 2 adults and 4 children for 4 days. Were met by the owner and after a false start (confusion with the booking) we were pointed in the right direction for our pitches.

The site is very peaceful and the rule of no children playing past 9pm was welcomed and respected by everyone.

The downsides were the facilities which were very poor, it wasn't the quantity but the quality. There were 2 toilets with hand basins, 2 separate showers and 1 washing up sink. For the whole of our stay the facilities were not cleaned and the showers were grubby

Visited this site following a week of rain. The approach road is full of pot holes so caravans beware. We struggled to get our car and trailer on to the site as our wheels just spun in the mud. It was even more difficult to get our car onto the top field which was at the bottom of a steep slope.
Despite the owner's assurance that we had the best pitch this was not the case. Due to the recent rain and the position of our pitch on a steep slope we had to erect our tent on very soggy ground and it was extremely difficult getting the tent pegs to stay in such conditions. Although the owner cannot be blamed for such weather conditions some improvements would provide easier access to this site in these conditions. We literally could not step outside our tent without sliding down the slope. I have to say the bottom field was far better.
As for the facilities, at £13 a night, we expected basic. However, they proved to be inadequate. Although a small site 2 showers and toilets for both females and males were not enough. Having stayed at other small sites 2 per sex may have been adequate. The showers set at 50 degrees were far too hot and were just a trickle of water on you. However, they do manage to shower the rest of the room so be warned. Every morning there was a queue for the 2 toilets and I have to say the smell was foul.
There was 1 washing up sink - so again expect to queue. And with the chemical disposal point outside the washing up sink it is not the most hygienic point for waste disposal - oh and it is disguised as a wishing well and many people left there clean washing up on top without realising as there was not room for it int the limited space provided. The site advertises a heated family bathroom - we could not find this and was told by the owner that it was out of order. The facilities were not cleaned during the week that we were there. After a fellow camper complained about the showers the owner closed both of them and was prepared to keep them closed until further notice. The same camper offered to help the owner fix them and a temporary repair was made to 1 shower leaving just 1 shower for everyone for the remainder of the holiday. The offer of making permanent repairs (free of charge) by this camper to both showers and the elusive family bathroom was declined by the owner. On the top field our pitch was exposed to all the elements and we returned from a day out minus our awning. We also found it difficult to sleep on our extremely sloping pitch as we rolled down the hill every night. On a positive note this is a cheap site and the pitches are extremely spacious. The children gather in the middle of the field to play various games and you do not have to worry about their safety. The owner is friendly and on arrival provides you with vouchers for free sausages at the local butchers and a free bottle of wine at the off license. The site is extremely peaceful and in a lovely setting. Would we return - no - unless the facilities were upgraded, or even kept clean. I have to say the location is great and we would be prepared to pay extra for better facilities. Shame as this is a beautiful site and with a bit of attention would be and ideal base within easy reach of the new forest.

Stayed here for four nights in summer holidays, in tent 2 adults and 2 young kids. Chose this site on the basis of the many positive comments in previous reviews.
Site is in a great location, very quiet, pitches gently sloping, horses in field next door. Free sausage voucher from owner but no sign of tea and biscuits!
Lots of things to do in surrounding area; Heavy Horse Centre just round the corner very good, Moors Valley nearby.
Nearby Verwood has plenty of shops, including a small Morrisons.
As previously mentioned, facilities are very basic, despite fairly high charges (£12 a night for a tent and 4 persons). Only two showers and two toilets (both with wash basins inside cubicles) and one washing up sink. Supposed to be family bathroom but this "wasn't working".
Unfortunately, the owners appear to be in ill health and seem to have let the site go. The grass was very long, neither shower worked properly and showers and toilets weren't cleaned at all while we were there (they were in a disgusting state).
Whilst we were there a contract gardener turned up to do the owners' garden. Perhaps they could spend some of their money on their business; a cleaner and a plumber for starters?
This site could be fantastic with a few small improvements.
