Greenwoods Camp Site is a small site located midway between King's Lynn and Fakenham, with plots for about twelve touring caravans and a equivalent number of permanent pitches. The guy who owns it is very friendly and helpful (he helped us rig our awning; and lent us an extra guy rope when the wind picked up; and fetched our washing in one day when it rained), and offers a full lowdown upon arrival of what's where on the site and around about. He is available 24 hours by phone in the event of an emergency.
Behind reception is the block containing male and female toilets and showers, an elsan point, and a washing-up area with a large fridge-freezer for guest use. The showers are free to use. There are taps dotted about the field, which is accessed through a locked gate that you will be loaned a key for.
Apart from the distant hum of the main A148 road - as well as the occasional low flying RAF jets and helicopters - Greenwood is a peaceful site (although for most of the week we stayed we had the site to ourselves). It's worth noting that if your children are into swings and ball games then this is probably not the site for them. However, if they are into walks and nature then that's a different story, with plenty of footpaths, bridleways and quiet country lanes to stroll or ride a bike along. There is even an old Norman church across the fields that is open to look around. Owls, pheasants and deer are amongst some of the fauna to be seen.
Out and about, the nearest shopping destinations with supermarkets are Fakenham, King's Lynn and Hunstanton. Otherwise, there is a convenience store on the main road about five minutes from the site. About half hour's drive away is Holkham - both the country house and estate; and the huge expanse of pine-backed unspoilt beach - as well as other picturesque villages, harbours and beaches along the North Norfolk coast.
Daily tariffs when we stayed were £14. 50 per unit with ehu, with £6 for additional adults.

This is a great campsite. Mike the owner is a camper himself at heart and really understands the needs of us all. This means the shower block and kitchen area are clean at all times and in the kitchen is a huge fridge freezer which campers can make us of. It also means that the rules are applied, essential for the well being of all.
The site itself is well placed a few miles west of Fakenham. Near the campsite is a bus route which will take you either to a Kings Lynn or Norwich. There us also a coastal hopper bus which you can use. The site is only a few miles from the coast and well placed to get about Norfolk.
Also very good value.
Highly recommended.

Touring Caravan just home from a two week break. Site was excellent, even enjoyed the occasional fly-past. Mike, the manager, couldn't be more helpful. Pitch, grass with good drainage. Toilet facilities very clean also a large fridge and freezer for campers use. If in the area would definitely go back.

If you want a small quiet site with friendly and helpful site manager/owner then this site should be considered. Contact with the owner was quick and easy and he was at the site to greet us on arrival. The site is set back, off a lane just off an A road. There was some traffic noise but not all the time and it didn't bother us at all. There is a military airbase in the area and there is air training during the week but not at weekends. It's not all the time and although jets, they are gone in seconds. These didn't bother us at all either.
On arrival the owner showed us where to pitch and after settling in he showed us the facilities, told us a little about the area and the camp rules which were very fair. One of the rules is that no ball games to be played on site which is perfectly fair as it's a small site and damage can so easily be done and upsets caused, so if you have older children who want to run about and kick balls about etc then this isn't the site for you. The toilets and showers were very clean and there is a wash up room with a sink and fridge plus a pay phone. Also a waste disposal area.
Shops/supermarkets are about four miles away in Fakenham and there are lots of pubs in surrounding area but cannot comment as didn't frequent them.
We had a very enjoyable week at this site and if back in North Norfolk then wouldn't hesitate to see if there is a pitch available.

Nice caravan site that my wife and I visited midweek after Easter. The owner is a great bloke, can't do enough for you and always willing to give a hand or advise on the local area. The toilet/shower block was always spotless and water and electric points are always close to your pitch.
The one downside that people might find annoying if visiting midweek is the local MOD jet planes and helicopters flying overhead, they don't fly at weekends, but it wouldn't put me off visiting again.
People visiting the area should realise also that television reception over the whole of this part of Norfolk is poor, as pointed out by the guy in Maplins in Kings Lynn so a satellite system is advised

Excellent sheltered site ideal for coastal areas of North Norfolk, sandringham and surrounding area. Most helpful and flexible manager I have come across. Probably not suitable for families with elder children no play area or field for ball games etc, I wouldn't say children are not welcome, just limited facilities for them.
Plenty of hot water and clean well maintained showers.
Would definitely stay again, highly recommended for the quieter camper, dogs welcome and a good dog walk up the lane and into the surrounding fields following the footpath.

We had a very restful if wet three day break at this campsite. The owner greeted us and showed us to our pitch and then left us to pitch our tent after asking if we required any help. When we settled up we received maps of the local area plus ideas of where to visit and where to eat (all good)
The site is flat with plenty of space between pitches. The facilities are very clean and well maintained with plenty of hot water. There is a separate room for dish washing with a large fridge and freezer for the use of campers.
The site is ideally sited for both inland visits or a run to the coast. The only slight down side is the noise from the very busy A148.
I would recommend this site to anyone, we will be going back next year

A perfect get away. A quiet, secluded site with a very friendly atmosphere.
We were met at the gate by the owner who opened the gate and showed us to our pitch. We tried to outwit the owner but he always appeared at the gate whenever we were leaving or returning to the site.
The site is very well kept with spotless, rustic ablutions.
The owner was very informative about the local area including the local buses if we so wished to leave the car at the site.
We used the local supermarket in Fakenham, found by a very useful map provided by the owner.
The owner is very unobtrusive but always appears as though by thin air if you need him. We found this very comforting as I was staying on the site with my elderly mother.

We have just come back from staying here for three nights and loved every moment of it. From the second we arrived we were greeted by the owner who knew us by name. He had previously asked us what time we were arriving so he could work his day around us. This was a good impression to start with. It was the previous good reviews of this site that made us want to stay here in the first place.
When you arrive, they will sit you down and explain the fair but firm rules of the campsite (no ball games, stay off the land where permanent caravans are pitched etc. ) He also gives you brochures of things to do in the local area, and a map showing where things like petrol stations and supermarkets are (all within a five minute drive).
The site is very small, very remote, and very quiet. The majority of the pitches here are taken up by people who keep caravans there permanently. Each pitch comes with an electric hook-up (which is optional) and there are several good clean water points on the site, as well as fire extinguishers. It is worth mentioning that there is absolutely nothing to do on the site, so if you are planning on staying with a large family, who like to run around and be occupied all of the time, then this site may not be for you. If however, you want a total escape from the outside world and a nice quiet environment to relax in, then this is your site.
The permanent pitch holders all seem quite friendly. In fact, one came to our aid within half an hour of us being there when our gazebo decided to take flight half way across the campsite, and offered us help, his wealth of knowledge and some spare pegs which was very nice of him.
The site contains a large housed block which contains the toilets and showers, chemical waste disposal, and a communal sink/freezer/fridge which is free of charge to use. This block also contains a payphone which you can call out on, and you can also call the owner who made a big point of saying that he could be reached 24 hours a day. He seems to be very dedicated to his job which is extremely refreshing.
Phone signal on the site seems to be quite good. I am with Orange and received 3G signal and good phone reception. My Fiance is with O2, and despite getting signal reception, did not have any 3G for the entire time he was there.
There are two showers in each toilet block. They aren't the most powerful showers in the world, but they are beautifully hot, and also kept clean, which is everything you need. There wasn't a single time that I used them that they were in a dirty condition.
One thing I must mention is the planes. The site seems to be on a route from RAF Mildenhall who use the route for air training at different points in the week. One night I was woken up at 3am with the sound of a jet engine so close I thought it had crashed into a nearby field. Me and my fiance rushed out of the tent to see what I can only describe as an old style bomber plane flying so low, that I could virtually see the serial number on the wing. This doesn't happen all the time, but it's worth warning you of, in case, like me, you wake up in the middle of the night to your life flashing before your eyes.
The campsite is fairly central to lots of Norfolk locations. It takes 20 minutes to drive to nearby Wells next the sea, 40 minutes to Cromer and 50 minutes to Norwich. We had a good range of day trips to these areas.
There are a few good pubs near to the campsite that offer good food. Avoid The Duke's Head however - we were duped into thinking this was a traditional English pub, serving good pub food. However, this is actually owned by some Thai men who serve an almost exclusively Chinese takeaway menu which is rather over priced. They are quite rude too.
All in all I would have absolutely no problem staying at Greenwood's campsite again. It's quiet, and one of the friendliest places I have stayed in a long time. It is also realistically priced, and one of the cheapest in the area. Owner is extremely helpful, the site is clean, well presented, and an absolute credit to him.
Looking forward to going back!

Just back from a 2 week stay at Greenwoods campsite. A peaceful retreat from the world!
The owner was very welcoming and helpful from the outset. He gave us a lot of local information that helped us to settle in and orientate ourselves. The toilet and shower facilities are clean and well looked after by the owner himself, who goes above and beyond to make sure they remain at this standard. There was also facilities for campers to wash dishes and a large fridge to store food.
Most people on the site have seasonal pitches and seem to care about the site too, making visitors like us welcome.
The site is quiet and relatively remote but within 15 minutes drive of Fakenham where there were plenty of shops to provide essential food etc. It's probably necessary to drive to use this site unless you are on peddle power! But also easily accessible are Kings Lynn or Wells on Sea which are both worth a visit. Norwich is about 1 hour drive and Cromer about 45 minutes. Nearby beaches at Brancaster and Holkham bay are wonderful and provide 'big vistas' and long walks with few people to share this with except near to the parking facilities at the entrance to the beaches. Blackeny point beach is even quieter. The roads in the surrounding area out with the main road from Kings Lynn to Cromer are quiet and ideal for cyclists. Pensthorpe nature reserve is 20 minutes drive and well worth a day out.
There are no specific facilities for entertaining children on the site and the owner rightly expects parents to maintain good behaviour from their children but there were children staying from time to time and they seemed to enjoy the freedom to run around, respecting the other visitors of course.
Locally there are many places to eat, and endless options for coffee and cake! We tried different restaurants and enjoyed them all.
We would definitely return to this site if we go back to this area.
