We had a very friendly and helpful welcome when we arrived. We were given information about the site and the area.
The campsite is on a working farm so it was very interesting to see the day to day work going on there. For us it was a perfect centre for our walking holiday.
There was a very generous allowance of space between the tents, even though it was August. The toilet block was always very clean with plenty of soap and toilet paper.
The location of the site about 10 minutes by car out of Bala was fine. In Bala there were all the possible shops and amenities you could require. The only small criticism is that the recycling arrangements were a bit haphazard and there was no clear labelling of the different bins. Apart from this, we had a wonderful stay there.

We stayed for 3 nights over on the camp site by the river. It cost us £5 per person, per night. We didn't have an electric hook up - I don't think it's available if you chose to camp on the site near the river, only on the main site near the farm. We noticed that it seemed to be mainly families on the main site at the farm, and couples/groups down near the river.
Getting to the river site is off road and the roads can be difficult to navigate in the rain.
It's a lovely flat site with stunning views and we really liked the ability to have a camp fire right onto the grass. Logs (£3) and Kindling (£1) were available from the office which was really handy.
Owner is available on the site to help with anything, he came over to have a chat with us when we first arrived to let us know he was available if we needed assistance.
The only thing we found to be a let down on site were the Portaloos available. There were two for everyone camped across two fields. They were pretty awful, with urine all over them and a very strong, unpleasant smell.
We used the site as a base to explore the small town, Bala Lake and Lake Vyrnwy. We found Lake Vyrnwy to be less popular but more interesting than Bala lake, with it's stunning dam, and intriguing straining tower.
For a local pub we'd recommend The Brynn. It has lovely food, friendly owners and a games room which has a pool table, dart board, quiz machine, old arcade games and board games which is great on a rainy day.
Overall a great trip, I'd like to try camping up at the main site to see if the facilities there are better than the portaloos.

Absolutely Amazing site, people very friendly, camp fires allowed they even sell the logs for fires very reasonable too, the people who run the site are extremely friendly and really go out of their way to make you welcome, there are two different places to camp which are really lovely kept, toilets and showers great, plenty of hot water, there is the site by the farm and then Riverside camping, which is owned by the same people just across the road, you drive down a little lane and what a Jewel, right by the river room for loads of tents without being on top of each other, the campsite warden IS ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING, he's so friendly and welcoming and really made us fell welcome (Thankyou xx) Cant wait to go back and THANKYOU to All at TY-ISAF in Bala. Will definitely recommended this site. BRILLIANT and Very Affordable as well.

Fantastic site and owners were really friendly. Scenery was stunning, loads of nice flat ground to pitch on, no music policy was a bonus, campfires allowed (logs avail for purchase on site), small playground for the kids, separate field for dog walking, communal fridge/freezer on site which was useful for ice packs and chilling the beer! Hot drinks vending machine was handy too. There's also the option to camp by the river which we visited one afternoon, really nice but be careful of the strong currents! Toilet/shower block was basic which is all you need, the showers were nice and hot. I've probably missed something out but there were so many positives about this site that we will definitely be returning again. Amazing!

Ty Isaf is my idea of a near-perfect site. Stayed there over the weekend to celebrate my birthday with family and friends and were absolutely delighted. The initial telephone call was very friendly and welcoming. We didn't have to book, but I rang again just before leaving as there were four medium-sized tents in our party and I was worried we would be too large a group. I was told there would be plenty of room, but space would be reserved for us anyway.
We were offered a hook-up, which we declined and lived to regret the decision, as it was absolutely freezing on the first night. Almost midsummer, but very high in the mountains and a very cold easterly wind. (It got warmer over the weekend!) On arrival we were warmly greeted and charged only five pounds per person – no extras for loo tent or number of vehicles. There were several fields to choose from - all excellent - and we pitched in the most level, well-mown and even field I've ever had the pleasure to camp in! Lovely short, lush grass and no dips or stones under the footprint. Ideal!
The scenery is stunning, 365 degree panoramic views of the hills and mountains, with tall trees full of singing birds and sheep and cows in the fields around. There are no designated pitches, which is exactly how we like to camp, as we could pitch in a circle around the camp fire. We'd chosen Ty Isaf because we wanted a fire and were very pleased that there were many small rings of stones forming firepits here and there across the site, easily one for every pitch. You couldn't light a great big bonfire in these little rings, but ours was big enough to keep seven of us warm into the early hours.
We did two lovely walks, one to the waterfall just a five minute drive down the road, and the other to the Ty Isaf campsite by the river. It's beautiful down there, but a little isolated with only portaloos and no stand pipe. We had a toddler in our group, so the top field was more suitable for us, but I can see camping down by the water's edge would be delightful on a warm evening for the slightly hardier camper.
The shower and loo block is basic, with just three showers in the ladies and three toilets, but that's fine by me as it was kept clean throughout the weekend. I don't know how it would cope with a busy bank holiday, as there were only three showers and three loos in the ladies and the same in the gents, but I imagine for most of the time it wouldn't be too busy. I would have liked liquid handwash instead of bar soap in the basins, as I think it's more hygienic in a public washroom. (There was hand cleanser in a bottle, but that was for use on dry hands). The flush mechanism on the toilets is a push-button which is very stiff to use, and might be difficult for children. But these are very small problems which in no way reduced our enjoyment of the site! Very much on the plus side, showers are free. Pot washing facilities are good, with lovely hot water - hot enough to fill a hot-water bottle - and there is a fridge/freezer for campers' use.
There's a no music policy, which is enforced when necessary, but in the early evening a gent was strumming his acoustic guitar very softly nearby and it just added to the pleasure of the weekend. Bad behaviour is not tolerated on this site and there always seems to be someone on duty if there's any problem.
You can buy wood from the office for the camp fire, or take your own. They also sell barbecue meat packs and hot coffee. There's a small play area for children which is popular and well-used. It's a working farm, so expect movements of cows, sheep and sheepdogs, the distant sounds of farm vehicles going about their work and swallows swooping in and out of the barn to build their nests. Absolutely charming!
We saw and heard a great assortment of birdlife, including buzzards, chaffinches, woodpeckers and even a red kite being chased off by crows!
We were so happy with the site that we spent most of our time there this trip, but have been to Bala before, so we can say it's a great little town with useful shops and watersports facilities. And the Bala Lake railway makes a pleasant day out. Being high up in the hills the area is on the edge of vast expanses of impressive moorland and it's worth a trip up there for a picnic just to look at the views!
All in all this is an absolutely charming site, run by a very nice family who've been farming there for three generations, so they know a thing or two about how to make their site special. We will be going back – hopefully often!

My husband and I stayed here with a group of friends; we were in our caravan and our friends were camping in the next field.
The owner, who was in the office when we all arrived, was very helpful and even though we were in a separate field to our friends she arranged for us to be as close as possible which was great.
The site is nicely laid out and flat and has a small play area for kids, which was great to keep them occupied.
They allow campfires in the camping field, which helped us all keep warm.
Also free Wifi and a large field to walk your dog
This site would be great as a base to visit Wales as the scenery is stunning with hills all around.
Site is around 5 minutes from Bala town where there is a Co-Op, a Spar and a butchers (good for BBQ food).
It’s also only around 10 minutes drive from the White Water Centre which we visited on the Saturday afternoon to go White Water Rafting.
The only negative I have about the site is that the toilets/showers could do with updating. The facilities are clean but do look a little tired.
Apart from that I would highly recommend it and would go back.

This is a gorgeous site with a good variety of accommodation options. We chose to use the river camping site, a short walk or drive from the main facilities. As suggested on the website this is a more rustic option and we loved it! River, open campfire and peace and quiet, all you could want when wishing to retreat from 'city' life. However we did enjoy the showers on the main site when the smokey smell on us got a bit too much!
There is a short bumpy track down to the river campsite but taken slowly didn't provide us with any problems. However after some rain and a little stupidity I got my little Clio stuck in the only small marshy part of the field (don't ask!). The owners were very happy to help without making me feel silly!
This was a great location for days out around mid Wales and The Snowdonia National Park in all its glory. With enjoyable free fishing rights, and the river outside our tent door!
We highly recommend this site for couples and can see the attraction to families also.

Lovely campsite in the hills next to a river in a farm setting. Two fields - one with tents and one with tourers. Friendly owners - easy to book. Excellent shower blocks and amenities. The hot water was extremely hot - fantastic after a day cycling and loads of it too. Plenty of water and electricity points. Nice play area for the children.
Bala is a great little town, has a decent Co-Op and Spa supermarkets and some nice little individual shops too. Close to the cycling trails we were aiming for at Dolgellau and Coed-y-Brenin. Definitely will be back for a return visit. Good value for money.

Our 1st visit to this site and we loved it (2 adults, 2 kids aged 9 and 5 and a husky) A great warm welcome, we were on the camping field with electric hook up. We had a fire on most nights straight on the field and all the logs and fire lighters were available in the shop. It is a working farm and as we pulled in the drive a cow had just that second given birth to a calf right by the fence.
A nice size camping field and flat too.
The kids were kept entertained by the play area and watching the tractors, there is a field for the dog to have a run off the lead and chase rabbits, a very relaxing site to be on. On our first night we were invited to a game of rounders which was a great ice breaker for everyone camping on the field.
My only negative is the bunch of people chatting until 4am right by our tent but in the next field, luckily they left after our first night.
The shower and toilet block does what you need it to do for the small amount of time you spend in there, the 'pot washing' area is great and I didn't think water could get that hot out of a tap, good height for the kids to have a bash at washing up too!
Bala is about a mile and half away with a good Spar shop and a great chippy. We will be returning to this site!

We stayed over the May bank holiday weekend, encouraged by the fact that the site allows camp fires. We were with a couple of other families and there were no problems in being grouped together.
Plenty of space for the children to run around in, and the play area entertained them too. We did have some concerns about the lack of gates and fencing around some parts of the farm, but the children were all given stern lectures about staying safe on the farm and thankfully listened for a change!
Whilst the facilities were basic, they were mostly clean and well lit, the weather wasn't the best over the weekend and it was cold, so I stuck to flip flops in the shower as it got a little muddy at times. The free freezer for ice packs was welcome.
The site operates a no music policy, this was fine, we did have some noise from a student party in the next field, but nothing which kept anyone awake for too long. Our early rising children probably made more noise to them.
We really enjoyed being able to have a campfire. We had taken a fire pit, but to be honest that just created more mess for us to deal with so we probably should have stuck to the old fashioned approach!
Lots to do in the local area, Bala, the railway, and the rest of the National Park!
