August Bank holiday and unable to book a campsite as everywhere seemed to be full we opted for this site as it was first come first served and we were told we couldn't book. We are very glad we did because it was great for us. With three large family tents including 8 children and 3 dogs we chose the sparsely populated river camping, which never really got very busy, whilst up at the farm it looked very overcrowded. If you can manage without showering for a few days this is perfect, the toilets were adequate, camp-fires fantastic, take plenty of water with you as no tap and be prepared for a slippery muddy entrance, then enjoy!

We stayed for 4 nights in field no. 2 with electric hook up. The location was beautiful and very peaceful just what we like.
Having two small children (2 and 6) they loved to be able to run around in open space, have a go on the playground and also have a camp fire with the added advantage that the wood was supplied FREE.
The owners were extremely friendly, helpful and very welcoming. The site has a very relaxed atmosphere and you dont feel that you are under any restrictions, everyone seemded to respect each other and kept the noise level to a minimum at night. We had a great walk down to the river fields which were stunning, maybe we will stay there next time.
The only flaw is the shower/toilet facilities, we were expecting basic but not that basic, nothing that a quick clean and a fresh coat of paint wouldnt sort out. With this in mind we would definitely go again as the location and friendly people far out weigh this.

This site is fantastic.
We were shown this site by some friends of ours.
As long as you go there expecting not to have all the mod cons eg. Showers/wash up areas. You will love it.
There is the choice of 2 fields the top field by the farm, which does have the facilities, or the bottom field near the river.
We went for the bottom field. We knew there were only 2 porta loos there, but you can have camp fires (they even give you the wood for free). You can fish in the river(we tried but were rubbish and caught Nowt!) The field was massive and there was only around 4 other tents in it. So plenty of room to spread out. There was 12 in our group and the kids loved it.
Stan the man,who helps out on the camp, is ever so friendly and extremely helpful.
You can order all your fresh meat, milk and eggs from the farm and what we got was beautiful.
If you do want a shower you can walk/drive up to the main farm(about 1/2 mile). There is only 1 shower in the mens and one in the females. There didnt appear to be a washing up area but we didnt look very well.
The town of Bala is approx 2 1/2 miles away and is lovely for walking/cycling and watersports. There are pubs, chippys, supermarkets, petrol station.
All in all this is one of the best camps we have been to this year. If you do go the bottom field is more fun but go expecting no facilities and you will not be disappointed. And make sure you take a water container as there are no water points in the bottom field. At £28 for 2 nights for 2 adults and 2 children you cant complain.
We would strongly recommend this site and we will be visiting again.

Spent August Bank Holiday weekend here with our local kayak club. It was a great site set in lovely countryside and an ideal base for the local rivers and lakes. The site is large and on Bank Holiday weekend quite cramped. There are no designated pitches - you just find what space you can. That was actually ok. The toilet block and portaloos were adequate but not exactly five star. Could do with twice as many showers for all the people on site - still we managed. The camp fires - positively encouraged with free fire wood are a great attraction. We will use the site again next time we need a fix of Welsh white water

We booked this at the last minute for 2 nights over bank holiday weekend. Lots of space when arrived on Friday afternoon however did get crowded over weekend. Campfires encouraged in all fields except the caravan field - wood provided and shovels to dig out turf. Our 3 boys loved the campfire, wood collecting, toasting marshmallows and keeping it going. This site is a working farm and has a clean facilities block but with only one shower for each side of the male/female block. Long queue in morning so gave up, however appeared to be empty for rest of day and evening, so aim for evening showering. Considering number of tents can only assume that most campers were short term and didn`t bother! Also 2 portaloos if you are desperate and can`t walk the extra 100yds. Plenty of room for children to play football, tag etc with new found friends and small play area. Easy access to farm so supervision required of young children. Beautiful scenery and surrounding area. Lots do do in and around the lake - lots of cyclists, walkers and canoeists on sight as well as families and a couple of noisy groups - one who sang a particularly annoying version of "she`ll be coming round the mountain" at 00.30 but most who obeyed the `quiet after 11.00` rule. Lots of pubs, takeaways and restaurants in Bala. Also good greengrocers, butchers, Spar and Somerfield. We all had a really good weekend, the boys will especially remember the campfires, and had fantastic weather which of course helped!

Its a nice big campsite in the country with no nearby shops pubs within walking distance so you need a car. We stayed on the lower fields next to the river very pleasant large grass fields plenty of space. However the field is let down by the poor facilities just one porta loo which was disgusting, unclean and not sign of chemicals, to us a health hazzard. Very limited facilities at the main farm, long walk so need to take car down a very muddyt track, with the numbers staying had to wait a bit at the farm. Overall nice country site, suit those used to wild camping,or a carvan but let down by poor facitities.

Where to start- A real working farm, 2.5 miles from the town of Bala. Family run by very nice and extremely helpful people. The facilities were more than adequate clean with plenty of hot water, The setting in the hills around Bala lake is beautiful. The field is flat and mown campfires are allowed in a fire-pit plenty of FREE firewood. It has riverside camping alternative but in wet weather my city car was not really equipped for the task. (but I'm sure "wynn" the farmer would have pulled me out with his tractor) Bala town has three bank's all with ATM's, A Spar shop an excellent Chinese take away and some very good restaurants. For the real ale buffs the old bulls head has purple moose brewery beers and a very warm welcome. We will definitely be going back again a truly great experience.

Loved this site. It had a small kiddies play area. Kids loved it. Behind our caravan was a stream the kids played in it with their wellies on. Plenty of room to kick a ball. Owners were great. We didn't bring any cash with us, they dont accept cards, but allowed us to set up and then we went to a cash point. You can order meat for your bbq and fresh eggs are sold, lovely. My hubby is keen fisherman and he went fishing here and he loved it. He caught a 1 and a half pound trout and two smaller ones. We'd go again. Can get muddy when raining so bring your wellies.

We stayed at this camp site for two nights over the bank holiday, and decided to camp down by the river which is down a track (perfect if like us you have a land rover) and has absolutely nothing but a porta loo (access to a shower is available on the main Field's up by the farm). If you want all singing all dancing camping sites then this is not the site for you but if, like us you want wilder camping, waking up to the sound of the river and evenings spent around a proper camp fire then it is perfect. However the weekend was VERY busy and more like camping at a festival, lots of camp fires and partying which is great if that's what you also want (which we did) The owners are extremely nice and helpful, I mentioned that I was concerned that the porta loo was getting a bit full and within ten minutes the farmer had emptied it. We can't wait to go back to this site when maybe not so many people are there and really enjoy the peace and quiet - we loved it so much we have our eye on the weather for next weekend. As we didn't spend any time whatsoever up at the main Fields we can't comment on that part except to say they do have electric hook ups available and you can still have camp fires (loads of wood was available too) and the veiw is still stunning.

The best thing about this camp site is the beautiful surrounding countryside. The views are outstanding. The site itself is very basic, although a good base for your stay. However I would recommend the owners should invest in better facilities for the campers seeing how this is now run by a third generation of the same family. There are toilet facilities with wash basins and one shower on each side (ie ladies/gents). These facilities are extremely old and in a very cold and draughty barn. They are in need of a good over-haul - they let the site down.
