Just come back from a lovely night at this site. Beautiful location, and although it is amongst hills the roads are not overly narrow nor steep.
Facilities were fine (three showers in the ladies' toilet block, all clean). A shop on the site was well stocked with sweets and a few essentials, including logs and kindling. There is a small play area for the kids, plenty of space between pitches and adequate lighting around the loo blocks. It is a working farm but this didn't disturb our time there at all.
We were in Field 2 - EHU, no hard standing but it wasn't muddy. Plenty of water points.
The best thing about this site is the laid-back feel of the place. Campfires are welcome (and there are extinguishers dotted around the field). We've been to a few sites recently where the rules and regulations were so stringent that we felt uncomfortable but this is not the case in Ty Isaf. We will definitely go again, and as soon as possible.

We had 5 smallish tents in our group during July when we stayed at Ty Isaf. Unfortunately, the weather didn't pick up from the occasional rain shower so we only stayed 1 night. The main section looked very tidy and organised.
The shower block perfectly clean & all in working order. 2 showers,2 toilets, sinks with work tops, hooks for clothes etc and even a plug for people who like hairdryers / straighteners! Dishwashing area great too - plently of hot water(undercover). There is also a fidge/freezer next to the washing up area to refreeze ice blocks etc
We chose to stay in their 'bottom field' which is accessed by a bumpy farm road through fields of sheep! (1/2mile) This field is a huge open site right next to the river but it only has portaloos for facilities.
You'll need to walk/drive back up to the main farm for the shower block. This area is great if you just want to be away from the main busy site. You can have sensible campfires (buy wood before you go - no free wood now)and generally enjoy the countryside.
There is a static caravan in the far corner should you need assistance but they don't bother you unless I assume you get stupidly loud or unreasonable! Owners were very friendly - few rules but you'll get that anywhere. Reasonable prices, definitely worth a look.

What a great site we have been coming here for a couple of years now & love it. We can really relax in the peace & quiet. Chris & her family are very helpful & accommodating. The Showers are always very hot & although it is a working farm they do there best to keep them clean. The camp fires are great there is always a competition amongst the men to see who can get the best fire going. It has a great community spirit on the site & my grandchildren love. We would recommend this site as a must visit. We tried near Bridlington in 2010 for a change & we wont be doing that again, but we will be going to Ty Isaf for August bank holiday

We had an excellent weekend break on this site due in large part to the camp fires which seemed to keep everyone entertained well into the chilly evenings.
It's good value for money, particularly given the free wood for your camp fire, and although the toilet / shower unit was basic it was clean and the water was hot. If that's all you're after, this is a great place to stay - if you want to take your straighteners and avoid spiders, maybe find a different place!
The location is good for heading straight off on walks following public footpath waymarkers; it is pretty isolated though and I wouldn't fancy walking the road up from Bala after dark.
Bala itself has a nice array of tea shops etc and of course lots of water sports facilities on the lake, plus some nice walks and an old steam train ride. Will definitely visit this site again but probably for weekend breaks.

Great cheap and cheerful campsite. Stayed here for a couple of nights for a kayaking weekend on the River Tryweryn. It's in a great position and really quiet, or at least it was until we got there! Being able to have a campfire took the chill off the cold windy nights and boy was it windy! The owners even provided the firewood free of charge! The toilet and shower block served it's purpose but could really do with expanding and at the very least overhauling with a coat of paint. The owners would be advised to spray the place with some disinfectant once in a while too as it wasn't the most pleasant of aromas inside! The facilities could do with a little work but I would stay here again as overall it is great value for money and makes for an economical base to pitch your tent!

After a fruitless search for a site this Bank Holiday we found Ty Isaf at a snip of £16 + 1 other person for £6. Owners very friendly and helpful. Offered us a better pitch than allocated because of dreadful weather conditions, for which we were grateful, as the original pitch was muddy.
The mud issue did not get better and we thought that the owners could have put some aggregate on the track which led around the site to help with the skidding etc.
Toilet block was very basic and showers not quite warm. We found that the mud made it's way into the showers and we couldn't stay clean for long.
The site allowed camp fires on two fields (sadly not the one for tourers) but that meant that most people stayed up VERY late and things became a bit too noisy for our liking. Nothing for older teens to do though.
The town was ok, with one Spar and a Somerfield, three pubs and plenty of places for coffee and meals, although we found it too far to walk on dark country roads(about 2.5 miles)
We discovered that by leaving the site and turning right, we were right on top of the heather clad moors and went on to Lake Vernwy. Best scenery, but hair raising journey down very narrow lanes!
The weather spoilt it - as usual!

6 of us stayed here for the first time recently and it WON'T be the last, The owners were very friendly and helpful, the site pitches were spacious enough for the largest tents and CAMPFIRES are welcomed,FREE wood was available too, this is a working farm so expect the sights sounds and smells that accompany this but it didn't bother us at all, there are BASIC washing and toilet facilities on site and a small play area as well, If you want to party hard don't choose this site,It is a quiet site and you will be asked to leave, However if like us you just want to sit and relax with a few tinnies and a nice fire then this would be the one, its approx 2 1/2 miles outside BALA centre but I would be cautious on the unlit and unpaved road at night, unfortunately we didn't get to see the riverside field as we paid for the electric hookup but people mentioned it was great down there, cant think of any bad points, Give it a try.

This is the second time I have been to this site.
First time was with my son (9) and my brother, second just myself and my wife (and our dog).
Both times I have stayed in the field to the right near the river. The road down here is rocky and steep but is fine as long as you take it slow.
If you want to experience back to basics camping its down here.
The two river fields are very large and you can have camp fires.
The only facilities are some portaloos (a bit smelly but hey your camping).
There is a couple in a caravan down here. They check on all to make sure you are fine, offer there help if you need them then leave you alone.
The owners are really friendly too and will help to give you the best holiday you could wish for.
The main site is where all the facilities are. This is about 1/2mile away from the river field.
Here you have drinking water, showers, cleaning facilities etc
The showers are now clean tidy and very good.
They have been updated since my first time here in easter.
They will give you fire wood if any is available, if not you can buy some in bala.
A nice pub we found was the bryntirion inn, I think the area is pale. (right out of main site or left from river field, down the B4391 for 1.2mile then fork to the left onto B4402 the pub is at the end)
It had good grub after 6pm and free wifi if you need it.
I would recommend this site to anybody.
On the main site there is a childs play area.
£6pp, allows dogs

We had a great time in this campsite. Magnificent view of the mountains, very peaceful atmosphere. We were part of a very large group, around 24 adults and 22 well behaved children enjoyed, loads of room to play around, we even had a swim at the river. Very safe for everyone as the river is only about knee deep and the current is not strong, with clean running water. Campfires allowed, firewood provided by the owners which is fab. The lady owner and Stan are very accommodating making sure we are all enjoying stay.
Toilets are clean with endless supply of hot water. We were camped by the river, portalet provided.
We'll definitely come back.

Just spent a lovely week at Ty Isaf. Great site with 1 field for caravans and 2 fields for tents. We were on field No.2 with ehu but both the tent fields are huge and flat and you can have campfires in both which our son loved (so did his new friends - something to do with the big bag of marshmallows we had with us).
We cycled to the riverside camping field which was also huge and very picturesque but the portaloos would put me off and the OH would definitely not have liked to try to get the car down there!
The play area is really only for very small children but there is a stream nearby which my son had fun splashing around in with his friends. These are both near the toilet block which has 3 toilets and showers (with free hot water) in both Ladies & Gents, two washing up sinks and a fridge/freezer.
During the week there was hardly anyone else on our field so we had plenty of room to play cricket, football, frisbee, etc. There was plenty of hot water all week but come Friday it did get very very busy (the field was quite packed) and they ran out of hot water in the showers early on Saturday morning!
You can order meat for your bbq - place your order before 3pm and it is delivered by 5.45pm - very nice it is too!
In Bala there are a few pubs, a chippy, lots of cafes, shops (Somerfield & Spar) and a swimming pool. The Eisteddfod was on whilst we were there so the village was probably a lot busier than usual. We found a lovely pub near Llandderfel about 10 minutes drive away called the Bryntirion Inn which, unlike most in the area, was open all day for food and drink - this became our 'local' for the week!
All in all a lovely site with absolutely fantastic views - we will be back!
