We stayed on this site for four nights over the Easter period. It was a lovely peaceful site. Everyone seemed to follow what few rules there were and that made everyone happy. Campfires are allowed on a camping field. We were on field 1 and we could have used a fire pit and bought logs from the farm. We lit a fire in the bbq and burned logs in that and it was more than adequate. The play area kept the children happy. Only thing which lets the site down are the toilet/washroom facilities. The porcelain items are clean, the floor didn't appear to be clean enough. I overcame that by wearing flip flops in the shower. The showers were lovely and hot. Only three showers and three toilets in the ladies. There is a socket in the ladies for hairdrying. There is a pot washing area. Lovely walks from the site and the owners of the site are friendly. Will definitely go back again.

Just what our family of 5 needed in the October half term, a quiet countryside retreat. Lovely farm setting, owners were polite and checking in was easy.

We camped on the main campsite on an EHU pitch for 5 nights, plenty of room for our Zenobia 6 with porch and car.

Love the fact you can have open fires on the camping field. Kids play area consisted of swings and a slide and lots of room for the kids to play ball games etc. Kids had a blast!

Toilets and shower facilities are basic but showers are hot and free, fairly clean but campsite is situated on a farm.

Bala village/lake is only a 10 minute drive with pubs, cafes, post office, butchers, bakers and a co-op etc. Managed a lovely day trip Llandudno too about an hours drive - lovely beach, pier and shopping.

We all had a lovely time here and it only rained on the last day when we were packing up our tent!

Just came back from a lovely four day break at Ty Isaf with three friends and our seven dogs. We had hoped to camp by the River Dee and have the total camping experience (no showers or washing facilities but plenty of portable loos) but as we arrived in the middle of gale-force winds we were advised by the owners that field three (behind the hedge) would be more suitable.

We had the whole field to ourselves with some cows and sheep in neighbouring fields for company. The farm had a lovely atmosphere and everyone was friendly and extremely helpful. Although the dogs had to be tethered and under control we were allowed to let them have a run as long as no-one else was camping in the field.

The toilets/wash area were clean and suited our needs perfectly. The surrounding area is breath taking. Fields and hills as far as the eye could see and Bala Lake was less than a few minutes down the road. They have a no music policy and the camp site is extremely quiet and tranquil. Camp fires are allowed in the camping fields but it was far too windy for us to attempt it.

There is a small play area for the children in field one (touring/caravan pitch) with a small stream next to it. Our overall experience with Ty Isaf was fantastic and there are rivers and waterfalls right on the doorstep and the fantastic Bala Railway which we all (including the dogs) enjoyed.

Will definitely return to Ty Isaf in the near future. If you're looking for a peaceful and tranquil break then I would definitely recommend this site. I'd give the site 9/10 purely because something must have a fault, I just haven't found it yet.

We (self and two teenagers) spent a week on this site. It was very quiet, with very few campers. We were on the main site (not the river camping) and for most of the time were in a field by ourselves, the other tent field was also pretty empty. Being a rather wet week maybe it was quiet everywhere.

The site is well laid out with plenty of water points and EHU (which we didn't use). The facilities are basic and, being so quiet, never got very crowded. The water in showers and wash up was always (very) hot. The facilities themselves were kept clean but were a bit tired and could do with updating. I'm not sure how well they would work if the site was really full, there are only 3 loos and 3 showers in the Ladies. There's a fridge/freezer in the washup area which was great for doing ice packs and keeping food cool. Again, it worked well with few people, not sure how it would work if the site was crowded.

The people in the shop were very friendly and helpful, check in was simple and quick.

We enjoyed the ability to have real camp fires, and wood and kindling is available from the shop.

In general a very quiet site, the loudest noise came from the cows coming in for milking. The road runs right by the site and is visible from Field 3, but it is a B road and not very busy.

We would consider this site again if we were planning to go back to the area. We prefer small, quiet sites.

Just spent 5 nights on this site with some friends in another tent. Very friendly welcome upon arrival and lovely surroundings. Kids loved being able to build campfires and toast marshmallows and teacakes. Facilities were always clean and site was quiet. Ideal base for surrounding areas such as Llandegla and Coed y Brenin where we went mountain biking. Only 40 minutes from Barmouth on the coast and just over an hour to get to Anglesey. Will definitely think about coming back here again, great value for money.

We visited this site in August of 2011. We were planning to just stop for one night en-route to Barmouth but in the end, we stayed for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed this site and the vicinity.

The site is a good size and the vans are well spaced. When we were there, there were very few tents - maybe two at a time. Easy to hook-up electricity and many hook ups have a water point adjacent even though the pitches are not advertised as serviced.

Yes, the toilets and shower blocks are basic, but we always found them to be clean and no restrictions on the hot water, lots of space to get changed and lots of space to dry off and hang clothes and towels.

The park next to the toilets has a few items that my kids liked. The toddlers park next to the static office van had lots of nice little items that my 3 year old loved.

The family who own the site are friendly and their children played nicely with the visitors kids too.

Highlights of this site for me are the tranquillity and the possibility to have a camp-fire. We lit one each night and enjoyed the warmth and bbq'ed food and a few tins also. Please note that fires are not allowed on the caravan field, but the owners are more than happy for you to nip over to the camping field, find an established fire pit and light up there. Also, if you have a fire pit and will not scorch the grass in the caravan area, you can light up on there too. Guess who came home and bought a portable fire pit!

This a working farm and if you ask nicely, you may be invited to watch or help with herding the animals or milking.

My kids also enjoyed playing with a couple of the regular visitors staying on the seasonal pitches. They also enjoyed paddling in the adjacent river. The seasonal rate is very good - if it was a bit closer to home, I would be there.

We enjoyed Bala too - plenty of places to eat and drink. The lake train is worth a visit just to take coffee and cakes at the far-end terminus.

A lovely site that we thoroughly loved and will return to.

Just returned from a 3 day stay at Ty Isaf. The first night it was just me, bloke and dog and so we decided to give the river field a go. It was a very bumpy road down to the river - at times I wasn't sure my little car was going to make it! Down there we set up camp with a fabulous view of the river - but a group of tents soon came to close for my liking. This made us feel a bit isolated and being so far to travel to wash dishes and go to a proper loo (we knew there were porta-loos there - but it was August and there was only 2!) we decided to move up to the main field for the next 2 nights when we were joined by friends.

The fields up by the farmhouse are far more suitable - shorter grass and not along silly roads! It was quite quiet on our field so we managed to create our own little corner. Having campfires was good (yes, the boys did compete with looking after it) but we did get to the point the lack of music was infuriating - I didn't book so will look out for this in future. The campsite overall was busy and the showers and toilets always looked like they needed cleaning - although this is one of the issues of being a working farm. The fridge and freezer was good although a few things went missing that we left in there (one of the perils of using it, I know!). We had plenty of space for ball games etc. But on a busier week we may have failed to find things to do. There was a couple of playgrounds for kids - but we're 20 somethings now! There was also a lot of farm equipment nearby and tractors often around so although there was playgrounds, am not sure you could leave the kids to play unsupervised.

The nearby town of Bala and it's lake were nice for an hour or two and there was a number of pubs in the town. Apart from that, Llangollen would be a short drive away but is quite in the middle of nowhere but good views at both sites.

Overall, not somewhere I would choose to stay again due to the shower/toilet situations and unless you want a really wilderness camp (or portaloos!) I wouldn't recommend the river field.

We visited this site over the bank holiday weekend, we have been many times before. We asked for an electric hook up pitch on the caravan field as we had always done before.

The site has increased it's costs considerably over the last 2 years, whilst only doing slight improvements to the showers and minor changes to the small play park.

It has increased the number of long term pitches for caravans. This has taken away the feeling of 'weekend camping'. This gave us the feeling that the caravanners don't want you there.

Because of the weather, we stayed inside watching the television during the evening only to be told that it was 'too loud', because it is a 'no music site'.

Overall, we feel the site has lost the laid back appeal that had made us return before.

Maybe trying too hard to please the long term pitches. Won't be returning.

A small group of us stayed here for a Saturday night. We were four adults and six young children in three tents, and we stayed in the field by the river.

We were attracted to this site because it is one of the few which allow you to have a campfire. The kids had a great time toasting marshmallows, and having a campfire allows you to sit stay up a little later.

Before it got dark though we had a little walk along the river bank, and found a shallow bit where the kids could paddle. This soon turned into them all being fully stripped off and splashing around.

The couple in the caravan walked by now and then to make sure we were OK. They do not allow music to be played on the site, and that is apart of the reason for their patrol. I wouldn't have minded being able to play some music, (the nearest campers were in the opposite corner of the field and wouldn't have been disturbed), but we respected their rules, and it did make for a very peaceful place to stay.

I would definitely stay there again, though probably only for the one night again. The top field with the shower block is more suited to a longer stay.

We discovered this fantastic site in April and have been there three times already this year.

As has been said before the site is split between the the working farm with the main facilities and the river fields. For us, the river fields are fantastic. As close to wild camping as can get without having to chop your own fire wood or dig hole! Drinking water can be found at the main site which wasn't really much of a problem to drive up for, portaloos are provided in the river fields. The number of portaloos varies throughout the season but even on a busy bank holiday weekend we have always found them clean and safe to use, even stocked with loo roll.(August BH there were about 8 toilets)

Stan keeps an eye out from his caravan and cant do enough to help if you need it.

The facilities are what you would expect from a farm camp site, we have always found them clean and plenty of hot water for washing up and showers, Chris is very friendly and helpful and has always ensured we have enjoyed our stay. Fire wood is available for a very reasonable £3 a bag.

The river fields are flat with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and with the gentle river at the bottom the kids love it. I always come home feeling calm and relaxed from this peaceful little spot, so if you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind or as a base for exploring the surrounding countryside then this is the place. Plenty of room to play with the kids and a warming campfire for the chilly evenings, magic!
