Just returned from a two night break, the owners of the site made us feel so welcome and made time to talk to us every day to make sure everything was ok, lovely site very peaceful and quiet on a night time even though there was quite a few campers on site. The pitches are spacious and very well kept, and most pitches had picnic tables on them. There is a brilliant field at the bottom of the site for dog owners to exercise there dogs safely as it is closed in and the dogs can't run off, there is also plenty of room for children to play without disturbing any of the campers. Just down the road there is a Morrisons supermarket so that any provisions can be bought, the only slight let down are the toilets which need updating, although the toilets and showers were kept clean and plenty toilet paper is provided, although I must admit this did not bother us as we tend to use our own facilities. Excellent site to use as a base for visiting surrounding area, perfect site for relaxing and chilling out. This site is excellent value for money! THANKS excellent break will definitely be visiting again soon!

We spent a lovely week at Spen House in beautiful & peaceful surroundings. The owners were very welcoming on our arrival, nothing was too much trouble. There is plenty of wild life to see in the surrounding area, including Red Kite & Deer. Borough Bridge is only a few minutes away. A charming small town by the river with a good selection of shops including local butchers. There is a nice car boot at Minskip on Sundays 12:30pm.
All in all this a great site to chill out.

We used this site as they don't have a minimum stay, most sites charge you 3 night minimum and we only wanted 2 nights so it was great,
The owners are really on the ball, a nice well kept and clean site, they went round a couple of times we stayed checking for litter and chatting to guests. They have a toilet / shower block with washing facilities and separate ladies shower/toilet, showers are 50p for about 8 mins which is great value a good size washing up room with lots of boiling water. Free use of a fridge/freezer in the same room, they do sell a small selection of goods,
There is a small play area for under 5 and a play area for older children, not big but it kept them quite,
There is a pub in the village and a Morrisons supermarket 5 min drive away in Boroughbridge,
All in all a good basic site, and well kept.

This was our first caravan experience and also our first visit to the site. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We know now having visited other sites the facilities could have been better. Only one shower in the mens which did breakdown and there was a shower in the main house but apparently no changing facilities. The kitchen washing facilities had swallows visiting at the time so one of the two sinks and drainers did have bird dirt on it which was always dirty when I used it. The freezer in there could have done with a clean. The local pub was good, didn't open on a Monday. Site ideal for visiting York. Friendly owners. This could be up graded but I think it may be up for sale. Plenty of space for tents. Would go back small and friendly.

Nice large site plenty of space for tents, had some cheap swings that was pushed over by a small boy if a child had been on it could have been nasty.
Toilet block is a old porta-cabin the type you get on a building site shame as they have lots of out buildings to form some new ones, my wife said the one in reception was dirty so she did not have a shower plus the water was luke warm would not fancy a shower in cold weather.
On the plus side pub 200yds away, morrisons a mile away. Eighteen pounds a night a little expensive will not return

What can I say camping at its best. 5 mins of a1 motorway and 10min walk from pub(white swan)good food and beer landlord very friendly. Knaresborough 15mins drive and Boroughbridge a short drive away with a morrisons supermarket very near. Basic camp site but what a lovely site. Owners friendly and said we could pitch anywhere. Toilets clean and tidy, very quiet on a night, weather great for two days. My son made friends within 5mins of getting there. Pitches level and good size. Good value for money. Will go back to Spen house.

This was our first stay at a certified site as we have always shied away from them preferring to go to a club site - but this will not be our last!
When we booked the lady was extremely pleasant & helpful, advising me to simply pitch on one of the 6 hard standing pitches when I arrive. The entrance to the site does look rather tight but our van entered the the gateways okay with care! The toilet block is a portacabin. The shower is within the men's toilet but separated by a door and the ladies have a separate toilet. The facilities are basic but were clean and clearly looked after.
The site had a great layout with 6 spacious hard standing pitches with EHU at the opening, then a large field area with a play area behind that. It's located close to a large Morrison's and Boroughbridge is only a few miles away.
The only bit we were worried about was getting our van off the pitch and out of the gates (as we were pitched next to a fence) but luckily our friendly neighbours came across and pushed the van out through the gates for us. As the site is nice and flat this wasn't too difficult at all!
So I would certainly say that if, like me, you've always been put off a certified site then I'd give it a go! We stayed here as a stop off down to Wales from Durham but we will seriously consider a certified site for a week long stay on our travels next year (we only paid £15 for the night - the site in Wales was £23 so a fair saving!). We will certainly go back again, for a longer stay.

We spent the weekend here in a tent, and it was quite simply perfect! It has a large areas for tents, and having tried a few times to be shoe-horned in between campervans or squeezed into a little compartment too close to the neighbours, arriving at a campsite which was more a tent-campsite than a caravan-campsite was great.
There are two little play areas, nothing fancy, but enough to keep our almost 3 year old busy when he wasn't driving around on his bike, which there was plenty of room for.
This isn't a fancy 4 star campsite at all, but a really nice and quiet site, with everything you need and just the right little details, like a fridge and a freezer in the washing up room and that broom you need when you're taking the tent down. -and the Ice cream van which came to visit just at the right time!
Minskip itself is nothing much to write about (nice houses but nothing much there), but Boroughbridge has quite a few good pubs for sunday lunch - followed in our case by an afternoon car boot sale which happens in Minskip on sundays. We didn't venture further afield.
It's a 3 min drive from the A1 and 4 min drive to Morrison's (or thereabouts. )
We would definitely go again.

We stayed here over the valentines weekend (romance at its best) just for 1 evening. I emailed to ask if it was recommended booking a pitch for this weekend and was told to ring back after 6pm. When I rang back was duly booked in by a friendly lady and was told her husband should be around to book us in but if not find a pitch and would catch up later on.
On arrival there was nobody around but as advised we picked 1 of the 2 pitch which were free (watch out for the free running hens and chickens) and made out self comfy. The owner came over to book us in and to have a general chat, again very friendly
Each of the hard standing gravel pitches had a EHU (not used) and a water point local (generally 1 per 2 pitches)
We pitched and then went to check the facilities which was male and female toilets
Didnt use the showers (again no towels) but if the site was full you may be queuing to get one.
Generally a quiet site with minimal but enough lighting to get you to the loo and back in the middle of the night.
Would recommend this site

We went as a party of 2 families with varying aged children. We were lucky enough to be sited on the field and the site was quiet. The site provide picnic benches and thanks to some great weather we managed two bbq's! The owners are very friendly and it has two sets of swings, suitable for younger children and a rope and tyre swing in the bottom field for older ones. The village is quite small but Morrisons is less than 2 miles away and has a cafe and petrol station so what else could you need? Back to the site. I liked it and would go back but not in peak season. Their is a shower within the reception but watch out as there was an electric heater stored in there which my 11 year old may not have thought of removing. The main loo block has a separate ladies but the shower and unisex toilets have a light switch in the roof which myself and my parents couldn't even reach! I did read about the need for 50p for the showers but hadn't quite expected the loos to be in a portacabin of this standard. As I said, I would go back but wouldn't like to pay full fees for these facilities. The kids were safe and really enjoyed it so that alone is one good reason. Its basically a rally site with a loo and washing up facilities.
