Thank you for a lovely few days stay. Riley loved being part of the daily dog walk and we loved the total peace and quiet! The shower block provided lovely hot water, dish washing area is spacious and full of information. Surrounding area is absolutely beautiful.Chickens roaming free. Puppies and dogs- well trained and add to the 'countyside' atmosphere. Cant wait to come back soon with my children!

We spent an enjoyable weekend here with our dogs and toddler granddaughter. The site is very easy to get to from the A1 (no narrow lanes to negotiate) and the hardstanding pitches are spacious enough, though the ground was as hard as concrete and as we hadn't brought our rock pegs with us we had to improvise and tie our awning down with string.
The site is made up of three fields, with caravans in the first one nearest the to house, outbuildings and toilet block. We were told that the third field was the dog exercising area so were quite surprised when we walked down there to find that there were a number of tents pitched in it - however it was large enough for the dogs to have a good run without disturbing the campers too much.
Our granddaughter loved the little swings and paid several visits to the barn to see the rabbits and guinea-pigs (which you can get out of their cages if you can catch them!)
The only real downside is the small number of toilets and showers - only one female shower and one dedicated female toilet. This didn't bother us as we were in a caravan, but it might be an issue for campers when the site is busy. Also the toilet block is quite a trek from the bottom camping field and we were woken in the night by the sound of cars driving up from the bottom field to deliver the occupants to the loo!
Overall a pleasant site with helpful owners, interesting free-range chickens and friendly dogs!

Lovely site 5 mins from A1. Owners very nice. Toilets and showers good shower 50p for 5 mins plenty of time to get showered. Pot wash area great loads of leaflets for surrounding attractions. BBQ stands for disposable BBQ's. All bottles and can recycled. Plenty of drinking water taps.
One small field then one very long field nice and flat kids play area inbetween the two fields. Owners walk their dogs two or three times a day and chickens just roam around mostly near the house and tourers caravans which there is only hardstanding for six.
There is a pub within walking distance approx 10mins we didn't try it so couldn't say what it was like. There is a Morrisons about 1 mile down the road and Knarsborough is approx 6 miles. A very enjoyable weekend and will definitely be going again.

We have just got back from a 3 day stay at Spen House. What a lovely friendly site. The couple who run the site were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble for them, it was nice to see them walking round the site every day.
My children enjoyed the play area although they would of like a few more things for the older children to do. The toilet and shower facilities were clean and tidy, although a little weird at first been unisex. The shower was reasonably priced and was lovely plenty of hot water.
There was many attractions to visit round and about but at the same time was nice to just sit and relax. A lovely site and well worth the money and another visit.

We stayed here over the Bank Holiday 3 nights in total. I emailed and was told to ring back after 6pm. When I rang back I was asked the size of our tent, I advised it was a long thin tent nothing too big. The lady said that would be fine.
Well, when we got there around 7pm we did struggle to find a pitch as it was very busy. The owner said he likes to keep tents to 50 but I would say there was more like 60-70.
We pitched and then went to check the facilities which was 1 ladies toilet with sink and plug for hairdryer / straighteners (which is a bonus). There was also a porta cabin with 3 unisex toilets, urinals, 3 hand wash sinks and 1 shower(50p!).
Now if everyone had wanted a shower that was there I am sure the queue would back onto the main road. Not very adequate facilities for the amount of people. Yes, it was a Bank Holiday but maybe the owner should keep it to a more reasonable number as this spoils it for the rest of the campers.
We were handed a set of rules when we arrived, I think nobody followed the rules as the party next to us did not have their dog on a lead and certainly were making noise after 10.30pm. We thought it was a quiet family site but there was quite a few younger people 25-30 age group who were quite rowdy on a evening.
The following morning we woke to even more people arriving which we thought was not possible as there was no more pitches available. However, the owner decided to situate them down the middle of the field making it virtually impossible for kids to play ball games. Also, in front of our neighbours a very large 3 bedroom tent pitched in front of their tent as they were with the group next to them. The family did complain to the owner.

Visited this site many times. It is a lovely family run site. There is always a warm welcome. Hard standing pitches make it useful for all weather use.
The toilet block and shower are basic but the cost per night reflects this. The friendlessness from the owners more than makes up for it.
The ability of the site to allow people to camp and use touring caravans means all the family can go. If you have a large extended family it is very useful.
The location of the site is handy to visit many attractions as it is just off the A1.
The village pub is small but friendly and does very good food.

The owners were very welcoming upon our arrival and if we had any questions about the site or local eateries / attraction they couldn't have been more helpful.
The hens were invariably pottering about which was entertaining. Poultry food was available at 50p a bag which we thought was a nice touch.
Whilst the shower and toilet areas were very well kept, my wife would have preferred a dedicated ladies shower, which this early in the season (and pretty quiet) wasn't really an issue, but maybe in the height of summer may be more of a concern.
The nearby Royal Oak serves excellent food, perhaps a tad more expensive than your average pub grub - but well worth that bit extra. The nearest pub is the White Swan (5 mins) the staff of which were friendly, but foodwise they seemed to adopt the 'absolutely enormous portion' policy. Personally we felt that cutting the plate quantities by half and dropping the prices by a third would be beneficial for the Landlord and customer alike.
The fresh eggs are so much better than supermarket ones very much worth the pound a dozen price tag. Overall we had a great time at this cracking site, and will both return and recommend.

We stayed here just one night en route to Scotland, but know the area well.
This is a great little site, within easy reach of the A1M, close to a decent pub and a large Morrisons supermarket/petrol station.
Minskip is just outside Boroughbridge, a small Yorkshire town that has all you need for a short stay/stop over. On fine days, the moors and dales are to either side, within about equal distance. It is also close to other places well worth a visit on wet days; Ripon (about 7 miles), with its minster, 'garden' racecourse market square, Newby Hall, Fountains Abbey, river walks and ancient hornblower ceremony (get there just before 9pm to watch the hornblower in action and stay to listen to his short talk);York,(22 miles) the most beautiful city in England IMHO, Leeds (22 miles) where the armoury is excellent and free and Tropical World near Roundhay park is a great for a few warm hours. Harrogate and Knaresborough are only about 5 and 8 miles away - Knaresborough has fine views from the castle over the river and railway bridge (don't forget your camera), Mother Shipton's cave and row boats for hire. There's a good, cheap cafe down by the row boat hire place. Harrogate is a grand Georgian Spa Town, filled with fine shops and 'ladies who lunch'. It has a cinema and decent pool.
The site owners are friendly and helpful. The toilet/shower facilities are clean (though unheated) and the pitches are well spaced and serviced.
Highly recommended site.

We had a great weekend, however, were a little disappointed with the facilities. The porta-cabin unisex toilet block was adequate, but was cold, a tap was missing from the hot water heater over the sink and the 50p showers ran hot and cold with the temperature dial being disabled. The big sign indicating 'washing up area' had no hot water and the sinks had obviously not been used for some time.
Surrounding area worth a visit. Walked to Boroughbridge for a curry - a popular saturday night restaurant! Did a long walk around Lindley Reservoir - less than 30 mins away on the other side of Harrogate.

This is the first time that we have visited a certificated site but it will not be the last. Spen House was a lovely site.Granted the facilities were a bit basic compared to club sites but there were toilets and showers,electric,hook-ups, and it was half the price of a club site,(7 nights for the price of six, total cost for a caravan, two adults one child and an awning was £81.) The facilities were cleaned daily and there was always plenty of toilet paper. I used the shower which was in the office, there was a small charge of 50p but the water was plentiful and hot. Regardless of the fact that there were a lot of families with children camping over the week-end it was still quiet on a night.
I would recommend Knaresborough and Ripon for a visit also Newby Hall with its lovely gardens and play area. Lightwater Valley isn't far away for a visit, York, with it's Railway Museum(Free admission) and th Aircraft Museum at Elvington also th York Maize. All in all plenty of things to see and do. Boroughbridge is a lovely little village with a Morrisons store on the outskirts. We will definitely be making a return visit
