The site is situated in the heart of the village, only 5 minutes from the motorway. Local amenities include a pub in the village; a supermarket and a farm shop are a short drive away.

Arrived at about 5pm with 2 fairly stressed adults and 2 children (7 & 9 yrs old). The site owners gave a very friendly and helpful welcome. They even helped to put our unit onto the pitch.

Once set up, and children sent to explore, the stress levels evaporated; this is a very relaxing site. Although you are in the village you wouldn’t know it being surrounded by hedges and backing on to fields. Swifts were flying around and nest on the site. Chickens are roaming free and provide entertainment with their antics. Children can help feed the chickens.

The site is split into 3 areas; caravans nearest the owners house on hard standing (for those caravanners who are going to use an awning hard-ground pegs are a must), then a tent / folding camper area and finally a camping / ball game area. Having this split made the site appear a lot less busy than it actually was. The ball games area was a hit with all the children. The owners even provide some outdoor games equipment (tennis, cricket and golf) for those who are travelling light. A small play area has also been set up, with play equipment for both young and older children.

The toilet block is of the portakabin type. Very clean and is regularly checked by the owners throughout the day to make sure it stays that way. The facilities are shared by both sexes, although there is a separate toilet (one) and shower for female use only. The arrangements do take some getting used to, especially for us. The facilities coped with around 100 people on the site with no problems. I would advise those who are camping, especially with young children, to take a portapotty; it is a fair walk (for little legs) from the tent area to the toilets.

There was no pressure to leave by a set time on our day of departure, which meant that we could take our time and enjoy every minute of our stay.

This was our first visit to this site, and we'll definitely be coming again and again.

Great little site - friendly owners and large field at the bottom of site for dog walks or sports activities, tarzan swing and 2 sets of swings at the bottom near the large field kept the children happy - small barn had lots of sports equipment for children to use - chickens are really funny and come to your tent to greet you - toilet and shower block were being updated but this was not a problem as there was a separate block of toilets that were a bit basic but kept clean and only one shower but again never had to queue

This was my first visit here and I will be going back. The friends that went with me also enjoyed it. Very clean and tidy camp site and very friendly owners, never been to a site so well kept, you even get your own bin liners on arrival!
The local amenties are good, friendly pub and large supermarket nearby and 2 farm shops. The town of Borobridge is compact and a few miles away. Definitely worth another visit.

Have just returned from a lovely, relaxing few days at this site over the half-term school holidays. The owners were extremely helpful and were only too willing to give advice on everything from days out with the kids to bus and cycle routes. They are keen to develop the site and seemed open to suggestions as to how they might improve.

The facilities are quite basic - only 1 shower -which given that the site was remarkably busy, due to the fabulous weather, meant that you had to time your dash for the shower carefully! It also seemed odd having a mixed-sex portakabin, with urinals at the far end. On one occasion I marched my daughters in to wash their hands, to be met by a rather embarrassed chap peeing up the wall!

However, an added bonus at this site is the involvement of the children with the feeding of the hens, rabbits, guinea-pigs, as well as walking the farm dogs. What fun! The children loved the play area, which had equipment for under 6's as well as the older ones.

We enjoyed watching the house-martins and swallows zipping in and out of the barns and caught a glimpse of one of the tawny owls residing there one evening. Bonus!

Stayed here bank holiday weekend, a lovely site, lots of places round about. Owners of the camp great people, always at hand if we needed any help, toilets and shower cleaned about every hour. Really enjoyed it and would definitely go again.
We walked into town ,it took us about half an hour but it was a lovely day and we just took it slow, it was a lovely walk. We never actually got to river but other campers said it was lovely so we will try that next time.

We visited the second weekend in May, and were fortunate that the weather wasn't too bad - a couple of showers but nothing drastic.

The site was very quiet when we stayed, and we had a lovely time. There were free ranging chickens, which the kids loved, and the site owners were very friendly and welcoming.

The field was quite level, but not flat. There are a few stony bits, and it was fairly undulating. The ground drained well though, and pegs didn't get unduly bent.

The new swings were a hit, and the kids really enjoyed playing on them. The new toilet block was welcome - but still on the small size. Only 5 cubicles overall (4 in the men/womens joint room, 1 in women only section). I can't imagine how it copes when busy! The chaps who were there were sometimes slightly surprised by women coming into the area too.

We didn't use the shower (cost 50p), as we only stayed for 2 nights - but only one shower puts me off staying longer. With a young family I doubt there would be room for the multiple occupancy showers we normally need. And again, I wonder how the facilities cope when busier.

The washing up area was fine. Plenty of free hot water, and well lit. It was undercover, but would probably be slightly damp in a downpour.

The area was nice - local pub served nice beer, and tolerated the kids (wouldn't go as far as to say welcomed!). Went to Newby Hall for the day which was expensive, but the kids enjoyed the adventure play area and the train.

Spent the bank holiday weekend here, thankfully the owners don't demand that you pay for 3 nights either.

1 trailer tent with EHO, 1 4-man & 1 6-man.

It seemed pretty weird going into the middle of a village to find a campsite, you turn into the drive of a house only to find yourself in a farm!

A pretty basic but quiet site, not many people there when we arrived but a few more turned up on the Saturday.

The owners couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.

Showed us everything we needed to know and left us to pitch the tent. They always stopped to talk as they passed and shared a laugh or two as well.

Toilet block is a portakabin but it's kept spotless, as is the shower and the wash-up areas.

Large play area for kids.

One thing that we really thought was hilarious was the chickens roaming around totally free. You have to be careful when eating as they come and expect a hand-out, one even pinched a burger from our barbecue!

Boroughbridge at 25 min 'stroll' away, there's a Morrisons there as well as a Spar.

We're definitely going back in June and hopefully may get a few more in over the summer.

Highly recommended.

We camped here, mid April, 2 families in 2 tents, 4 adults, 4 children (ages 9,8 and two 6 yr olds)

We stayed for 2 nights and had a great time.

There was lots of space for the children to run about and a few swings etc, one of the swings was in dire need of oiling, this was noticed by the owner, who promptly fixed it, it was no problem for us, just a bit noisy, but, he saw to it straight away.

The owners were very good, even getting my car started, (I'd left an electric cooler box plugged in overnight)! Also, my friends daughter who is 8 and had been petrified of dogs, since being bitten as a toddler, was soon walking the owners border collies, brilliant for her confidence, again, all due to the owners.

The campsite itself was good, plenty of space, it was April!, the only downside, for one of our party was the noise from the A1, which is only a mile away, didn't notice it myself!

The local pub is a minute walk, we went there in the afternoon, but it was closed, I telephoned the owner to see what time he opened (usually 7'o clock)and he offered to take us into Boroughbridge to another pub!

We walked into Boroughbridge, which was a 20 min walk (with kids)and picked up a takeaway, called AB Taxis, and the guy turned up in a minibus, £5, for 8 of us back to the campsite.

Looking forward to going back.

Just back yet again from a fab weekend here. This is the 2nd time we have been and the kids loved it. Open space to play, a new fab play area, farm animals in the surrounding fields and peace and quiet, what more could you ask for???? Loos are kept clean, always loo roll there, one shower on site which is spotless, the washing up area is great plus spotless and gives a feel of its historical past. Birds nests in a few nooks and crannies which is what rural life is all about. The owners are so friendly they make you feel like part of their family, never too much trouble to stop and chat. All in all a top campsite, and we are returning back in 2 weeks time.I think the owners deffo deserve a chocolate frog at christmas :-) :o) xx

Just read with surprise the previous review about Spen House. We spent Easter weekend at the site, and were really pleased with the facilities offered. Site owners friendly and helpful, even printing out maps of the area to help us find our way around. We also were asked to supervise our two children, but we would expect to do that anyway.
The toilets and shower were immaculate all the time, and were more than suitable for a small site. We had a really great weekend, the kids loved the new swings. We WILL be returning again.
