Great informal site with no EHU. Next to a great beach that was very quiet when we were there. All the facilities are in shipping containers, they were clean & it was £1 for a hot shower, I thought that was fair. They were just setting up a shop on the day we were leaving & the food van at the entrance was closed.
£14 via an honesty box. If you’re in a van you need to drive around to find a flattish pitch so don’t be late! I’d certainly stay here again. There’s another more organised site a mile down the road it that’s more your thing- £24 a night. Didn’t see the wardens but didn’t need to.

6th campsite of 11 on our tour of Skye and the Outer Hebrides, 4 adults and 1 car. No dog and no children.
We didn't see owners or managers - run an honesty system. We only stayed one night, because on our way to Uist, this was our last of 3 nights on Lewis and Harris.
As suggests, there is no EHU or wifi, as in sand dunes. But there are toilets and showers, a hut with ample information.
Amazing scenery, this is a must place to stay. We chose a sheltered spot, so out of the wind. Reasonably level, but that's your choice as there's no booking, so its whats available when you arrive. There was a food van, but they'd gone to the mainland for 2 nights, just unlucky for us. Otherwise didn't appear to be any pubs/restaurants within walking distance.
Great for beach lovers, dogs, children. Near to ferry, can recommend the Anchorage and the Butty Bus

I spent nearly a week here, enroute through the Outer Hebrides. Great site, fabulous position. Free and easy. Arrive and pitch where you can. Facilities are basic and adequate. Payment by honesty box. Nice touch!
Good access to Harris
Best shops in Tarbert, includes a butcher if you need small cuts of meat.
Ample supermarket in Leverburgh to the south. Meat selection restricted to prepacked, no good if you want one chicken breast! I have a small fridge.
I highly recommend this site.

£14 per night with limited facilities. Yes it is right by the beach, but the beach wasn't that big and it got very crowded. The site was packed, so get there early to try and get a decent and level spot! Plenty of room for tents, just caravans and motorhomes were more limited.
There are toilets and showers and a beach shop and info area with washing up, however no CDP to EHU! you need to take your CDP to Leverburgh ferry point which is 10 minutes drive away!
I think £14 per night was a bit expensive for what you get, but it was very popular so I may be in a minority! There are some nice, quieter beaches nearby and lots of wild camping spots, but you have to pay for these too in Harris.
Normally £5 or £10 per night and no facilities! The scenery is amazing and the beaches are beautiful, maybe next time we will go during the quieter months, as we don't have children! Greta place for families though as the beach is quite sheltered so the kids were out with their boats and body boards all day long.
There is a jetty there too so it looked fun jumping off the end of that! Lots of little art galleries and cafes and a shop in Leverburgh, so plenty to keep you entertained if you don't like sitting on the beach all day, or if the weather turns!

We stayed for one night on our tour of Northern Scotland. This is the most unforgettable location with a clear sandy beach and mountains over looking the bay. It was really hard to leave when it was time to pack up!
It is in a fairly rural location with not too much nearby so make sure you have all the supplies you need with you. Once you have set up you can truly relax, there is an abundance of wildlife in the area from rabbits to seals, and we were lucky enough on the ferry across to Tarbert to see puffins, dolphins and whales. An amazing campsite that I would love to visit again and can't recommend enough.
Decent shower and toilet facilities that are kept clean and a small kitchen area that has fridge/freezer - which is really useful when camping!
Because this area is so remote the night sky is exceptionally clear with no light pollution to block the stars. We saw the most incredibly bright shooting star - if you can stay up to watch the stars on a clear night they are probably some of the best you will see anywhere in the world.
We didn't take our daughter with us on this trip, but there were several families with children - the location doesn't have facilities aimed directly at children however the beach seems to be enough to keep them occupied indefinitely!

An undulating field but enough space on the flatter bits when we were there. There are a few seasonal pitch caravans but if they're not in residence you can park up close to them. Only tents are allowed right near the dunes.
The facilities are in 3 containers near the beach - WC, showers and a kitchen: all clean. No EHU so a bit expensive at £14 a night when similar set ups are £10 but fantastic location. It can get very windy here so baton the hatches!
There's an honesty box system at the gate so pay if you're staying (we suspect some folks don't) but good wild camping spots nearby and the local communities like a donation of £5 a night.

Basically a wild camp situation, although toilets and showers are provided in steel containers and are clean enough.
The site is full public access for use of the beach so vans/motorhomes are pitched behind the dunes so no view of the beach, it is only a short walk through a car park though. When we were there the site was visited by coach tours so car park and beach busy.
Operates on honesty system with envelopes for you to put money in to post in box by gate. Rubbish/recycling was also at the gate on the way out- to access on foot you cross a cattle grid, not ideal. The footpath gate for this was tied shut! At £14 per night with no hook up and no chemical disposal it's steep in price.

Very scenic camp site, cheap and facilities very clean. We camped up near the beach and could look out onto the sea from our tent. It was lovely at night listening to the waves.
The facilities are in the middle of the site in three containers, toilets, showers, washing up area and a small shop. The shop didn't have much in it but I think more for collecting money from campers etc.
I liked the fact that tents got the better views and to camp right at the beach. You have to park and carry your tent up a small hill but it is worth it.
The only thing that ruined it was people with dogs allowing their dogs to foul all over the place and not cleaning it up, disgusting and ruins this beautiful site.

A great site just behind the dunes of the beach at horgabost, just turn up & find a space! There is a clean toilet / shower block with a communal washing/ fridge area and small shop selling basic food torches beach toys etc. The shop is open until 5. 30, you pay for camping there (£14 per night for the motorhome) but no need to put any proof of payment anywhere. It was REALLY windy when we were there and a few tents / awnings got destroyed, so choose your pitch carefully and put it up carefully.
There's water but no toilet waste disposal - nearest is 7 miles away at Leverburgh pier head so empty it before you go. Also there's no electric hook up. There's no hard standing but it was quite easy to find flat grass and it was well drained.
Overall we were really happy with the site.

Stayed here for two nights. Absolutely stunning location. I was blown away by the beauty of the beach here. My husband kept trying to paint the view but the colours were constantly changing! The colour of the water is AMAZING!
That said, the campsite itself could be better. It's certainly very relaxed, with its no book and just pay via the shop or the honesty box. (I think it was £14 per night).
The toilets are ok, clean enough. The showers were basic and cost £1 which gave you plenty time, although with only two in the ladies there was always a queue in the morning so I usually went back late afternoon.
As for pitches, you just park/pitch where you like. Nothing marked out so it's a bit of a free for all. It was fairly busy when we were there, although the shop girl said it would get much busier once the English were off. Lots of tents along the dunes with a good view, although you'd need to leave your car in the car park and walk up. All the vans were further back.
The pitches up the hill had a bit of a sea view, but also very windy so pick wisely. Such a shame there was no hook up as we would definitely have stayed longer with a few more home comforts.
Would it put us off going back. ? No, the beauty of this place would certainly bring us back. A word of warning though, if you're travelling by ferry in peak season then be sure to pre-book your onward journey. We didn't, and were very lucky to get a standby ticket to Skye. I certainly wouldn't leave it to chance next time.
