What a location! We were lucky enough to arrive here on a fantastically warm, sunny afternoon and were speechless at the views both on the drive down from Stornoway, and at the site itself.
This site is large and spacious with an excellent area devoted for tents. We chose a great wee spot up on the dunes which overlooked the beautiful beach and bay, looking to the mountains of Harris over the water. The ground here is undulating so you can still get a bit of shelter.
The facilities are basic. Toilet & shower and pot wash blocks are in storage containers - not the bonniest of things to look at, but not a major concern. There is A LOT of sand in the bottom of the showers, so wear flip flops.
There is a table in the kitchen area with information on local area which was really helpful. This is also where you get the envelopes to pay your pitch money. Payment is via an honesty box, located at the entrance of the site.
Leverburgh is a lovely 20min drive away. It has a well stocked Co-op with all basic supplies.
Quite a lot of kids rushing around the beach and great for water based activities, but a really peaceful and relaxing place.
Would highly recommend for the views alone.

What a wonderful site! Stunning location, although windy. The site owner was very helpful and thoughtful.
Lots of information about thing to go and see in the local area. Even a box for the cycling of used paperback books. -fantastic.
The only improvements would be 2 things-
1) a chest freezer for freezer packs
2) the payment slot for the showers is very high up, my daughter couldn't reach it.
I loved the slight 'wild' aspect to the camping, with no designated spaces.
The site was spacious and even when busy, still felt peaceful.
The toilet blocks were clean and well-kept, as were the washing up facilities.
The co-op at Leverburgh is only 20 mins away and had a good selection.
We camped up at the headland, to fully appreciate the gorgeous views but unfortunately my tent blew down. I moved to a more sheltered spot, which was fine for 2 1/2 weeks.
We had to leave in a bit of a hurry as there was a bad storm and 50 mph winds, but we were due to leave that day afterwards.
After 3 weeks there I was really sorry to leave and still had loads that I still wanted to do, but didn't manage.
We headed up to Lewis a couple of times-a gorgeous drive -only 90 mins to Stornoway.
We will definitely be back, both my husband and my 10 year old daughter adored it (she was even in swimming!)
All in all, a fantastic site - fairly basic facilities, but well kept. Harris is a stunning location and the campsite is wonderful.

An amazing campsite, ground is neat but not over prepared, facilities are adequate and clean, owners were friendly and welcoming and the location is just fantastic.
We were pitched up on the dunes about 20 feet from the beach. The facilities (washroom, toilets and showers)are down on the lower corner of the site near the beach. They are hidden from view from the entrance and from the dunes so it took us a bit to find them. (We went to the old man's house at the main entrance first he took it well though)
The honesty box method of payment is refreshing and straight forward. The showers need £1/£2 coins, £1 gets you about 5 mins I guess which is just enough to warm yourself up after a dip in the sea. We had to make change from other campers so best come prepared with plenty of change.
The nearest 'town' is Leverburgh and is about 20 mins away on the bus, it has a good wee co-op for getting supplies.
The surrounding area is beautiful, the sea is inviting and although a wetsuit would probably be advisable we survived a few dips without them. There's also a handy rock about 2/3 of the way along the beach that's great for jumping off of when the tide is in. At a rough estimate the water is about 8 to 10 feet deep at this point.
The site seems to attract a good sort of people so there was very pleasant community feel about the place.
We stayed longer than we had planned because it was so nice here.

What a great campsite! Beautiful location with views over the most amazing beach, looking out to Taransay. If you're lucky with the weather you'll see the best sunset EVER! facilities were absolutely fine, with plenty of toilets, hot showers (£1 coin operated but you can use other people's left over credit and £1 usually covers 2 showers). Room for washing dishes with plenty of adverts and posters for local activities. We had a 'take away' from local croft delivered to our tent when we couldn't be bothered to cook - fresh mussels, seafood & homemade bread. Amazing! We will definitely be back here

Fantastic site, everything you need. We only stayed for one night and it was raining when we arrived. However the sun did come out and the beach was stunning.
Never met the wardens, an honesty box at the gate.
There is plenty of information regarding local area, places of interest and wardens contact number should you require.
There is also local eating places places that will deliver food to the site.
The site was quite busy but plenty of space, you pick where you want to pitch.

Fab location, when I stayed it was very windy but there are sheltered pitches, I chose the breezy hilltop position so I could have a view of the beach and islands.
Facilities are ok, 3 large metal containers one each for men, women and washing up, the place was very clean with lots of helpful info, you are a few miles from a shop / petrol station at Leverburgh
The cost for a tent is £7 and an honesty box is at the entrance, would of loved to of stayed longer.

Fabulous location. Surely one of the best sites in the UK. Will come again. All clean. Just brilliant. Just wish for more privacy in men's showers.
The beach is amazing. The colour of the sea needs to be seen to be believed. And as one who spent a life travelling the world the sunset is the finest anywhere. Easy to find. Very accessible.
Of note is a complete lack of notices saying what you cannot do. You never see the owners. Just an honesty box. Also the pound charge for the showers is fair as the site does get some who stop by to use the showers!

Wow, what a location, the best location we have ever seen for camping. Clear blue water, fine what sand. Camping 5 metres from the beach and with strangely no wind for the two nights this site was amazing.
Although strong winds it must be a fight to take the few more shelter pitches. The whole west coast of this part of Harris is unbelievably beautiful.
Facilities fairly basic but its nice that your £1 for the shower (separate male & female) if unused can be used for the next person. Typically about 60p worth is enough for a good shower! Cleaned daily and you never see the owners but their leave a lot of info, you literally just turn-up. I think impossible its full!
They leave their contact numbers if any problems. Tents are by the beach, vans are up on the hill overlooking beach and showers.
Occurrence of our two nights stay was the sea king coastguard helicopter doing repeated take offs and landings about 300m away due to a mountain rescue exercise. Only one tiny 2 man tent nearly got blown away! But the pilot apologised to them and all was well
Sunets here are amazing as the light hits the hills opposite and Taransay.
Tip for food and drink is in Tarbet. The Tarbet inn (not the crazy expensive place in the centre!) does amazing cappucino (random) and fish and chips. Plus a pint of Hebridian ale or 'Island' as they say is a must. Would definitely come here again.
Harris is much nicer for spending time and Lewis is just so huge!

We would agree with all previous comments. Site is big enough to find a quiet spot.
Change over of visitors is quite high, possibly due to no hook ups, waste disposal etc, or just lots of places to visit.
Wanted to give feedback of touring caravan equipment though - we had a 4. 8watt solar charger. This worked well enough to keep the battery recharged during the day so we could run the water pump/heater and brief lights.
Our battery is a mid range - sorry cant mind exact rating. We also used a gas lantern if lights were needed for longer periods. So it worked quite well. If trying to run more items, you'd need a more powerful charger.
We had also been unsure about using an awning up there due to likely high winds, so got a double size Suncamp awning. This worked well and didn't give us any problems, though we did use wind breaks too. Having said that, the wind was not too severe on our holiday. I'd not have felt so comfortable with our usual square sided awning.
There is a mobile shop too - that goes to the site twice a week. And the nearby sea food carry out/delivery service advertised at the site, is really good and good value. So is Scarista House -but on a different level of course.
Phone networks - Vodaphone seems to have the best coverage. Boat trips - we were disappointed not to see puffins close up on land in the Shiant islands - it transpired they rarely nest anywhere easily accessible to where the boats land. This would have affected our choice of which trip to go on.

Spent two days here in our motorhome. What a great place providing the weather is on your side. The beach is fantastic and clean with lovely walks in all directions.
The toilets are kept clean as are the showers, however it is difficult to have a shower in private as there is only a plastic curtain between the shower and the outside world.
Because of the internet, it has now become extremely popular but still worth the £6 per night that we were asked to pay.
Incidentally this is paid by means of an honesty box at the entrance to the site.
