What a lovely surprise and a beautiful site! Plenty of room and gorgeous views. We never felt crowded.
It did not have electric hookups, so we only stayed two days but would have spent a lot longer, if it had. Also the chemical emptying point was at the ferry terminal! They do not have one on site, which was a surprise. We use our own toilet facilities so that was important to us.
The portable cabin facilities were a long way away and not exactly welcoming, although clean.
I can't praise the site enough and if we were younger, the toilet situation would not have been a problem!

On a sunny day this location has to be seen to be believed. We approached from the south and as we topped the hill the view of the bay with its white sands, turquoise waters and surrounding mountains and islands was breathtakingly beautiful.
Tents have the area next to the beach with campers, caravans and motorhomes further back. Tenters' cars are left in the small car park beside the shower blocks. It can be difficult to find a parking space as it fills up quickly.
Equipment has to be carried from there which could be a bit of a trek if you decided to pitch on the dunes overlooking the beach. The area slopes up to the top of the site, with all sorts of dips and hollows on the way, providing an assortment of sheltered and more exposed areas to pitch.
The charges are £7 a night for a 1-2 person tent and £10 for larger tents. I don't think it's possible to book in advance. Payment is left in a box attached to the fence post at the entrance to the site using envelopes provided.
The toilet and shower facilities are excellent and are kept clean, although inevitably there is sand traipsed in from the beach. Showers require a £1 coin which is more than adequate and there is frequently credit remaining in the meter.
There are four toilets and two showers in the ladies' block (and presumably the same in the men's), but as one shower was running cold with a thermostat problem when we were there it meant there was a high demand for the one remaining shower. However, the other shower was back in working order within a few days.
There is a communal changing area beside the showers, with pegs and a bench, separated from the toilet area by curtains. The meters are high up on the wall, so a child could only reach one of the meters by standing on the bench.
Next to the showers and toilets is a dishwashing block. The hot water in the tanks above the two sinks runs out quickly but also heats up again quickly.
There is a table with information leaflets and a notice board as well as payment envelopes and a supply of bags for cleaning up after dogs. There are also six power points which can be used for charging up mobile phones and plugging in hairdryers. A small shop opens for a couple of hours in the morning selling sweets, beach toys, etc. But no milk unfortunately.
Bins are located in the car park area. They are emptied on Thursdays but we found that they were full from Sunday onwards which meant that rubbish bags were piling up beside them for several days.
The area is open to the public, including the use of the facilities. Tourist coaches come down regularly to the car park where the occupants form long queues for the toilets, and wander through the site to see the beach, while the coach driver tries to turn in the confined space between the cars.
The beach is white and clean and looks across beautiful clear water to the island of Taransay. When the tide is out the water is shallow for a long way and warm enough to swim in.
Leverburgh is about 15 minutes' drive to the south and has a general store and petrol. When we arrived just after lunchtime on Saturday they had no milk and as they are closed on Sunday and they are the only shop we had to buy UHT.
Petrol is considerably more expensive than on the mainland, so fill up before crossing. Down by the ferry terminal is the Butty Bus, providing hot filled rolls, drinks, etc. Which can be eaten in or taken away.
Tarbert is around 20 minutes' drive from the campsite in the other direction and has petrol, a general store and Tourist Information. The Firstfruits restaurant/tea room there is excellent.
Horgabost site is beautiful, if busy (from an island point of view) with good facilities. We planned to visit for three nights but eventually stayed for five as family turned up to join us. I would certainly return here.

The location of this site is lovely. White beach, dunes, views across to Taransay. We couldn't see any of it whilst we were there however as the weather was appalling. It was such a shame. We did have a bit of a problem getting on a level spot as they had all been taken in the more sheltered areas. So we were a bit exposed to the nightly gales. A couple of tents had to abandon the site.
The toilet block was clean and very adequate although not hugely convenient as it was a bit of a walk in the extreme weather conditions. It is also shared by everyone who visits the beach.
There is an honesty box at the gate.
An enterprising lady will deliver prepared meals to the site and although we didn't try one we did buy fish from her croft.
I would love to return in more suitable weather as it was such a lovely spot.

Great campsite. On bluff overlooking the sea at Horgabost. Excellent value - £12 per night for a campervan. Very good facilities considering the number of people using them. Showers were £1, but lasted longer than required. Plenty of WC's. Site is licensed for about 35 vans and 30 tents, so could be very busy but when we were there, which was during a warm, sunny weekend in June, there were about 20 vans occupied and 10 tents. This sounds a lot but it didn't seem crowded. It was very casual - money to be put in an envelope and posted into a mailbox at the entrance. The location was superb overlooking the island of Taransay and the hills of north Harris. Nice beach and the sea looked inviting. We would definitely return. Beats wild camping and supports the island economy.

Arrived at this site in June 2011 and was really pleasantly surprised. The setting is amazing, with a good choice of sites with a view of the beach or more sheltered areas. I was worried about camping in possible high winds but the site has lots of areas which are more sheltered so our fairly large tent had no issues.
I had been concerned after seeing the word 'portacabin' being used about the toilet facilities but the toilets are great, full flushing (no portaloo issues here), and the showers were also really good. It takes a pound but you get ages for that and I never used the full amount.
Toilets and showers were cleaned every day and always spotless despite the amount of sand trod through!
Local facilities:
The newsagent in Tarbet actually has a good mini market stock, and also saves Sunday papers so you can get your Sunday news fix on Monday! The Leverburgh community co-op is the best local food shop I would say although off-sales are only from 10 to 6!
I can't recommend this site highly enough. We came planning to spend 2 nights and stayed for 5. Very relaxing, great walks on the beach, and one of the few places left with *no* mobile reception or 3G. Brilliant.

The site is next to a lovely white sandy beach, with turquoise sea. Indeed it is almost on the beach. The sea is blue even when the sun isn't shining.
The toilet and shower facilities are for general public use, as well as the campers. This wasn't a problem really, as mainly campers there when we stayed Wednesday to Monday (5 nights). The facilities were cleaned every day.
Would have liked to have stayed longer, but weather changed from sunny with lovely sunsets to rain and wind. The pitches were not marked, like wild camping.
It was a quiet site, but popular. No freezer pack facility, but weather kept food cool! Nearest shop (co-op) in Leverburgh. Tried take away fish and chips at the Anchorage, but it was awful soggy batter. Lovely scenery and beaches locally.

Great site - good, clean facilities as detailed below. Stayed 8 nights as weather was very windy and wet (didn't want to risk tent in moving) - Met Office weather warning forced exit.
Will be back next year in June and hope for less wind! Shame that there were so many empty caravans on site but quiet with visiting units.
Anchorage Restaurant in Leverburgh surprisingly good. Shops in Tarbert not great, Co-op in Stornoway very good but about an hour away.
Roads all much better than 12 years ago. Good beach walk for dogs morning and evening - excellent centre for all of Harris from the mountains of North Harris to the Golden Road on South Harris.
Even though the weather was wet and very windy lots of arts and craft places and walks to visit.

Great site! The campsite has its own beach with white sands and clear water. Nice clean showers and facilities though you need to remember a pound coin for the shower meter.
There was a great atmosphere on this site with lots of families playing games and flying kites. A scout group camped next to us also had their own dune buggy which they got up some speed on.
Horgabost is close (in a western isles sense) to Leverburgh where there's a good little shop and great food at the Anchorage Restaurant. The site is also close to Harris Golf Course which also operates an honesty box system for course fees. I haven't played much golf but I really enjoyed this challenging course with incredible views.
I'd recommend this site to anyone visiting Harris.

Had got info from various reviews and was a bit apprehensive about space available. But no problem - there is plenty of space with a variety of pitches - on dunes for tents and a bit further back for vans.
Site is a wee bit hilly but level sites can be found - most with great views. Facilities were fine and, as someone else said, better inside than they look from outside. Stunning beach and views. Water available.
If you like golf there are 5 courses on Hebrides. We played 4. Harris (nearby) is pretty good and 2x9. Didn't play Stornaway. Benbecula is micky mouse on airfield. Askernish on South Uist is amazing - do not be put off by £35 cost - it is amazing and views stunning - well worth it. Barra is a interesting with 'greens' fenced in by electric fences to keep cattle off. Stunning views and only £10

A great site. We had originally only planned to stay one night but ended up back there for a second.
Tents can be pitched anywhere on the dunes and cars left in the car park. We had a spot right on top of the first dune meaning we could see right across the cove to Taransay.
There are three portacabins on the site - gents toilets, ladies toilets and washing up room.
The showers consist of two cubicles and a combined changing area separated from the toilet area by a shower curtain. As others have said the electric meter takes £1 coins.
In the washing up room there are two sinks and visitor information.
Recycling is at the exit to the site and there are several rubbish bins on the site.
'Gus's Mobile Shop' visits the site twice a week.
Costs are displayed on the gatepost and in the washing up portacabin and you leave the money in a letterbox by the gate.
