Wonderful location and a massive area to camp. However for moterhomes is is not so easy to find a flat area. So be aware that if it is busy and you arrive late you might not get a flat bit of ground.
The facilities are basic but clean. The showers are not very private as the dressing area has a curtain, not door. So if you are not happy stripping off and leaving everything in an open area while you have a shower they are not for you.
There is an honesty system for paying putting your money and details in an envelope and posting in a box at the gate, or you can pay at the shop.
There is no waste water disposal point and no chemical disposal point, so even if you have your own facilities there is nowhere to empty your tanks.
The only contact with anyone is with the kid in the beach shop, who was happy to take our money but didn't seem to know what detail she needed, if any.
This is a great wild camp situation and I would recommend it but it is not really a campsite and you need to be aware of e waste disposal issue.
Tricky to overall score as I loved it but the lack of real facilities was an issue.

This site us in a beautiful position, unfortunately you can't pre book. When we visited there was lots of room, we managed to get a lovely pitch at the top of the site.
The facilities are very basic, I am glad we had our own sanitation and shower, this was a bit of a problem as there are no facilities to empty toilet waste and the nearest disposal point is at Leverburgh port which is 7 miles away.
This doesn't sound far away but the roads are winding and narrow so it takes quite a time to drive there. While we were there one of the wash basins was out of order, there are only two, and the taps weren't working properly.
You don't see the owner, you pick up an envelope and pay for your pitch in this via a box at the gate. I think someone visits in a car daily to check you have paid for your pitch. Saying this it is in a lovely position and very convenient for exploring Harris.
Our last evening there was quite traumatic, we had very heavy winds and really thought we were going to be blown over! If we visited again we would go for a lower pitch! We ate at the Anchorage Cafe in Leverburgh, which has a nice atmosphere and good food.
There is a very good croft farm shop on the way to Leverburgh, wonderful frangipanes! A visit to Roden to see St Clement's Church is recommended, very interesting, and if you carry on along the Goden Road visit the Scoon Art cafe, it's not the easiest place to find but well worth a visit they serve lovely soup and delicious cakes and we saw the elusive corncrake there!
We had a lovely drive to Husinish, and walked to the eagle observatory where we were extremely lucky to spot two beautiful golden eagles flying over the ridge. Scalpay is well worth going to with a very good shop and cafe, just wish we had had more time to explore but we wanted to walk to the lighthouse.
Definitely must visit this Island again!

We have very mixed emotions when it comes to the Horgabost campsite. On the plus side, the setting is lovely in the dunes behind a beautiful beach with views out to Taransay.
However, to get the nice views you need to pitch yourself on top of the dunes and risk getting blown away when the wind gets a little fresh. The alternative is to tuck yourself away in the dunes and forgo the view.
Amenities have been well documented by others and we would add that the containers are a bit of an eyesore and the toilets and showers left a lot to be desired.
Given the location, this site should really be a lot better than it is.

What a location! We camped for 2 nights at the top of the campsite overlooking the beautiful beach, out to Taransay and on to Amandsuihe and the Huishnish road several miles across the bay.
Converted shipping containers contain the camp shop, which was open each of the days we were there, the washing area and the toilet blocks. Showers were good in the men's block but there seems to have been a problem with the women's showers and my wife experienced a tepid shower on one of the days. They cost £1 for more than enough time for a decent wash and they were clean each time I was there.
For a family with children the location right on the beach is fantastic, even if the weather is at times typically Scottish, though that does not seem to phase our 5 year old. Cost of £11 per night for a large tent was very good value for money and I would highly recommend it.

Stayed here for 2 nights after recommendation from Armchair. The views are nothing short of fabulous! We didn't use the showers the two nights but they looked clean and tidy. The toilet blocks are converted containers but to be honest, its all you need in a setting like this. The main thing to watch out for is the constant Hebridean wind. Make sure your camp craft is up to speed or you will find your tent sailing over the Minch!
The site is an excellent base for exploring Harris. We even went as far as the Butt of Lewis and back in one day rather than miss out on the campsite and its views!
For a short stay, it is excellent.

What makes this site special is the marvellous location.
The facilities (in 3 converted freight containers) are a bit stretched with a large number of users and - inevitably - sand being trailed everywhere. Despite the best efforts of the owners it wasn't the cleanest.
Tents can be pitched almost on the beach, with marvellous views. 'Vans are located a bit back and mostly don't have such good views, though still impressive. There are no real guidelines and you basically select your own pitch.
No nearby eating places, though a very good takeaway/delivery service is available from Croft 36 (details in the amenity room).
Excellent for dogs, just take them straight onto the beach or the machair in the morning.

You've got to try this place! Beautiful stunning setting close to the sea and a wonderful beach. The site is set around a small public car park. If you want to pitch adjacent to the beach you can park up here and carry your gear to your chosen spot. The rest of field does not have any marked pitches - find your own spot, some are slopier than others. Essentially, you have a choice as to whether to pitch on lower ground and get some shelter if there's a breeze or further up to make the most of the view. I pitched on slightly higher ground and simply soaked up the scenery for hour upon hour. Two nights, hot weather and no midges!
Facilities are in steel containers (suitably painted) and are absolutely fine for this type of campsite. The gents had two loos and two showers plus urinals. Showers are a pound. Small changing area for showers is sectioned off with a curtain. Apart from sand (it is next to a beach), facilities were clean and I had no complaints; this is not CC remember!
There's a fridge freezer and a washing up area. I would imagine campers could eat at the table in there if the weather turned nasty.
A lot of motorhomes when I was there including newbies in hire vans parking up on 20 deg slopes, all good fun. Apparently a magazine had included the site in a recent article.
£9 for me, small tent and motorbike. Honesty box at gate.

We loved this campsite! Right on the beach it's perfect for children. We were spoilt with sunny days and our two boys spent hours paddling in the stream that runs to the sea.
Facilities were good, clean and plenty of hot water. Showers take a pound, picnic tables to eat at. There's no washing machine or tumble drier or hook up. But the scenery makes up for that, the view over to Taransey is fantastic. We never saw the owner, you leave your money in the postbox at the entrance. Well worth a visit.

The location of this site is truly fantastic beside a beautiful sandy beach.
The facilities are in three containers in the car park and are in need of some TLC. Whilst we were there the handle on the gents facilities had broken and my husband was locked in the until, having pondered where he may have disappeared to, I went off to investigate and found that the door handle had broken off on the outside. To be locked in a metal shipping container with no means of escape is no joke!
At this time of the year parking with a campervan is limited to the car park where there were comings and goings of dog walkers and other vehicles until late at night
At £14 with showers charged at extra and no CDP or grey water disposal point, I feel that the charge is excessive for 2 adults in a campervan no matter how stunning the view
Locally, Croft 36 is worth seeking out for the sea food and home baking

We stayed two nights in Horgabost Camping. I was expecting something even more basic. In fact it's rather well equipped.
Toilets and showers were very clean although there were many people. Pitching places near the sea were wonderful. Plenty of space and a cool sea breeze chasing the midges away (aaah. Not enough alas).
Stunning views. Very nice and quiet place. No barking dogs, no nasty kids : everyone was smiling and cool.
Hot showers were long lasting (never had to pay, there was still some money in the system). Price is very reasonable : £9 for 2 with 1 tent and 2 bicycles.
On Monday the camping beach shop was open. Warm welcoming and excellent ice creams.
What else ? I recommend Croft 36 in Scarista for the fresh bread, cooked crabs and lobsters : a few miles on the south. The Co-op in Leverburgh has a wide range of products.
